DESTROYING A HONDA C90 OFFROADING AFTER TYRE CHANGE - KENDA K262 REVIEW FIRST IMPRESSION

- How to change the tyres on your Honda Cub (C90). Once changed, I almost crash offroading, partly destroying my top box. This video also acts as a review or first impression of the Kenda K262 dual sport tyre. I buy bread and biscuits. I sing a song by Steeleye Span.
I use they tyres on road and offroad. I attempt a top speed run. I drive through mud, puddles, gravel and leaves and the tyres cope well. They have far more grip offroad than the outgoing tyres.
I think they do well - what do you think?
Someone else has been watching c90 adventures 😛 cracking vid mate.
Thanks very much. Not quite 'Ed Marchian' in quality but I am amusing myself nonetheless.
Excellent off road test😂. I will bear these in mind when I need to change my tyres. I found the rear wheel a bit of a sod to get back in after changing the sprocket and shoes.
That, dear friend from inside the internet, is where you need an emprodulator, a long punch, a drift etc to get that dastardly bush in the middle of the hub centralised and ready to receive the bolt.
@@EpohDerf very true. I found undoing the shocks at the bottom allowed me more space to get the wheel in.
Just stumbled across your video and throughly enjoyed it,you are a natural, I haven't even got a cub but did have many moons ago,I just recently purchased a 20 year old yamaha bws 50 and have totally got back into small bikes. Any excuse for a "micro adventure ". Stay safe and thanks for the entertainment.
Pleased you found it and pleased you found it amusing.
Got the next video rendering now so look out for that.
Will have to look up a bws50 as I can't envisage one...
fantastic if you're gonna ride on gravel/farm mud/ grassy fields/trails and sand in fact the difference in off road traction is night and day
but it can be absolutely dangerous on tarmac especially if it's raining since it has way less contact patch as compared to regular road tires
Thanks for the advice. I will be careful when braking.
Entertaining, useful and informative.👍
I run the same Kenda's on my '87 Cub and I find they stick like shit to a blanket when I'm thrashing the bitch around the Derbyshire Badlands.
I did however lose my vape going over a speed bump at a local retail park so this seems to be a common flaw with them sadly.
Ashley Hutchings lives in the same villiage as I and sometimes plays our Villiage Hall across the road. Although I do admire his work in Fairport Convention, he charges £15 a pop which is arena prices so he can stuff it.
BTW....Looking forward to the Hob-Nob review.
Hobnobs rendering now...
@@EpohDerf I'll get the kettle on then.🍵🫖
Cool my man...
Got one of these last Summer!! Have had it in my shed ever since restoring it a bit 😊
Tyres are 7 year old nylon things like yours were. May change them before I venture out on it again 🤔
Mine is blue also 2002 model.
Get it finished and ready to go for when the weather changes.
Really enjoy your videos, I have CT90 and would fit these tyres to it when I get it on/off the road.
I think it is worth it if you're going to play off-road. On road, they are a bit naff, especially in the wet.
Oh, I’m going to like this channel. Cheers from the Pacific Northwest, USA.
Does that mean you are a Washington State person or an Oregon person? Been to neither but would love to visit. Particularly because I'd like a Pendleton Blanket.
PS the one time I went to America I made a video which is on this channel if you like.
@@EpohDerf coastal Washington 👊🏼
@@Theophilus1968 lots of craft beer near you ?
Gave me a good chuckle this video. Good work Sir!
Still got my Steeleye span vinyl records ( & listen to them ) 😊
Got any favourite tracks?
No need to remove the chain or rear sprocket..leave it all attached to the swinging arm
Remove the rear nut on the torsion arm, and the brake barrel nut
You can get the rear wheel out.
You need to scrub the tyres in for about 100 miles first
Now, with the hit and run on the Super Cub 125, this kind of action might have to suffice what you return from the United States. I hope you have a good time out on the desert and enjoy the beauty and tranquility.
So far, so good. Really happy I went.
Wow, I'm phoning Honda first thing tomorrow, my 22 Super cub was delivered and some idiot forgot to put the inner tube in. By some amazing luck the tyre stayed inflated, narrowly avoiding a disaster. Do you recommend tyre warmers now we are getting into the colder weather ?
Nigel, if they forgot the inner tube I am afraid the bike is a write off. Just have to chalk that one up to experience.
As for tyre warmers, taking large thermos flasks of boiling water is a good way to go about it. You could also take a blowtorch or smear the tyres in vaseline and light them to warm them through.
@@EpohDerf Thanks for your expert advice Fred, I agree maybe the 100 point safety check the expert Honda technician carried out does not include tyre check as there are well over 100 bolts to check so tyres probably not that important. Will try the vaseline on the tyres tomorrow on my way into work with a top accident and injury law firm.
@@nigelbaldwin752 I think those checks just involve the technician choosing 100 things to check. 1) how does the horn sound? 45) can it do a burnout on a wet, polished concrete floor? 69) how much ham can be safely draped over the mirrors? it is probably that they simply didn't have enough checks to get to tyres...
@@EpohDerf "how much ham can be safely draped over the mirrors?" As someone who has purchased a new Super Cub and who once tried a vegetarian meal, I'm shocked, appalled and shocked that Honda does not offer a Veggie Option when they complete their tests.
@@edwardsp1916 they do offer a vegetarian cub. If you ask for one, they roll their eyes and give you either chips or green salad.
You should've stuck the cub to the side of the road, tl the left at 14:25 just for good measure 🤣🤣
I agree that would have been more extreme. It has been raining a lot recently. Perhaps a sign from god to get out and review more biscuits .
A look at Ed March's video's tells anyone All they need to know about these amazing machines 😁👍
He is a proper adventurer. Prices you don't need a 600hp, 1.3t machine to do it.
So beautiful please.. is this bike honda C90 available in pakistan karachl.thanks please
I don't understand this! The Honda 90, is a great bike, reliable and is what it is! It's not designed for Off road!
I think that is part of the fun, seeing what else it is capable of.
@@EpohDerf well okay
To go off-road, you don't need an off-road bike. You need an off-road rider.
The C90 is a road bike. It’ll fall apart in the dirt. Those tires would work great on the CT110 or CT90 trail bike.
@@tomskibowski8464 I certainly have a lot of fun. Saw some brand new (very expensive) bikes yesterday on the trails and wondered if they were having an order of magnitude more fun than me - perhaps not.
Hiya, I've just fitted some Kenda 262's to my new to me 2006 Honda Innova. I'm finding the steering VERY light though and vague even in a straight line. I've done some basic checks and suspension/bearings etc all seems ok. I've currently put standard pressures in (29psi) and wondering if that's the issue. Can you remember what pressures you're running?
If you've come from ordinary road tyres, they do feel very different. Road tyres felt like you could 'flop' from side to side really easily, the kenda take a bit more.work and feel different at different angles of lean. They grip just fine for corners but are a bit crap with heavy brakes on damp roads.
I suggest you start tearing around green lanes and then you'll be having so much fun, you'll forget the tyres feel odd..
@@EpohDerf haha, the reason I fitted them is for green lane fun on an inappropriate project bike 😂 I've ridden on offroad tyres on other bikes and ridden scooters in the past so don't think it's just the tyres unless the pressures are massively out (I've put the standard 29psi in as a starting point). As I only rode a couple of miles before fitting the Kendas I'm even unsure if it's the bike but I have done the usual checks (steering play, bearings etc) and all seems ok.
@@richardeaton1544 I will check my pressures later today and get back to you. I think I've got more in the rear than the front...
Replaced all the shocks and bushes etc so that might be helping.
@@EpohDerf cheers, much appreciated! Today I lowered the front to 25psi and kept the rear at 30psi and it seemed a bit better. It could of course just be me getting used to it 🤷♂😂
I only just bought this bike which the previous owner fitted all new suspension/brakes etc a few months ago. Everything seems well done and mechanically sound.
It could just be me as I'm used to a much bigger bike normally (Africa Twin AS) but the steering just feels too light...
this video is really making me doubt the authenticity of other offroad youtubers since none of them have ever showed a top box rattling apart riding over some potholes while very slowly braking..
It is likely a comedy of errors on my part. 1) bike not designed for the Evil Kenevil lifestyle 2) entry level top box (branded pacemaker of all things) 3) winding up the preload of the rear shocks to 'maximum stunt' setting and 4) the potholes being of the double black diamond variety. Stay safe out there.
Why not just get a CT90 or CT110 trail bike?
I'd love one but they are uncommon over here and very expensive. Even with the initial cost of the C90, the tyres, shocks, bushes etc it still owes me less than £1k
knock a tooth off the front sprocket, less top speed but improved acceleration and uphill performance
Thanks for the tip. About to do chain and sprocket so will 'knock a tooth off'.
@@EpohDerf the c90 3 speed gearbox, otherwise known as 1st, 3rd and 6th 😂
@@matwyatt456 I am dangerously close to plopping a more pokey motor into/on it... 140cc perhaps?
@@EpohDerf I run a few lifan 110's and a 140, the 110 is a dead easy swap for your bike if you order it with the honda style clutch cover
(or fit the one off your honda one (but use the adjuster mechanism from the lifan case) aswell as making sure it has the split phase generator.
everything will be plug and play, cub exhaust, airbox and carb/jetting, manifold etc.
Change the gearing to 16/36 and it makes that extra 4th gear into a great economy overdrive for long runs.
The 140cc is a little more involved and requires a bigger carb/different position, foam filter, bigger bore exhaust.
@@matwyatt456 thanks for the explanation. OO racing sell a 140 kit with carb. Filter etc etc. Elec or kick start. I am quite tempted...
Where did you get the front indicators?
They came on the bike which is now sold.
Seems like your bike has a huge gap between 1st and 2nd gear.
I think you're right. Combine that with a heady 5.14 horsepower and you've the magic combination of overheated, underpowered and 'using it for the wrong thing...'
Bigger sprocket on the back next time?
@@EpohDerf what are your front and rear sprocket sizes?
@@RideWithRen without looking I can't say with conviction but does 39/16 sound right?
@@EpohDerf you can't fix the gap between first and second gear by changing sprockets, but you can minimize the gap by going to lower gearing. Try a 15 tooth front sprocket, it might suit you better.
Has 3 speed?
Yes. That is correct. It has 3 speeds.
Seven months on, how did they wear? Any improvement/confidence on the road? Thanks for your response.
I would say they are pretty naff on the road, especially if wet but I've pushed and found the edge of their envelope off-road....
This has led to a new purchase (bike). Watch this space.
@@EpohDerf Huh. Curiosity peaked. Thanks for the response.
