  • An American man called Steve came to the UK as part of his 30th wedding anniversary. I showed him some nice bits of Wiltshire. We shared a Coq for dinner. It was nice.
He then asked if I would like to go to THE USA and see his garage, bikes, cars, country, lobsters etc and I said yes please.
I then got to thinking, While I am in there, why don't I have a look around? So that's what I will do. Rhode Island, New York, North Carolina, Tennessee, California, Oregon, Washington State, home...
Come and have a look at what I get up to.

Biscuitman goes west (after a bit of the east) -- very much looking forward to it. Hope you have a brilliant time.

Are you planning to ride that entire route across the US? I rode across the United States twice in my first year riding a motorcycle. Until then even I didn’t understand the full breadth, and diverse climate and terrain, of this country. Your total route should be a little more than 6500 kilometers. About the equivalent distance of riding from Cialis in France to Qatar in the Middle East.

I had initially planned this but with the time I had, the places and people I wanted to see, with a chance to 'stop and smell the flowers' it would have been close on impossible, and if not, certainly profoundly miserable.
I asked a seasoned USA travelling pro and he adjusted my ambitions. There will be 2x internal flights BOS-CLT and later on BNA-LAX.
What were your favourite bits of your Pan-American trips?

@@EpohDerf The West & Southwest. Colorado, Utah, Arizona, the Desert in California, Oregon, and Washington, are probably my favorites. I avoid the all the major metropolitan areas, but that’s just me. For many the chance to visit New York, Los Angeles, Miami… is the highlight of their trip. You can cover more distance in the US than you might think. Our roads are good, services are readily available, and of course there are no border crossings. But, by taking it slower I believe you will enjoy it more. It is a difficult balance.

@@EpohDerf I’m in Omaha, NE. That’s kind of near the geographic center of the country. As I said, I rode across the country twice in 2021. I turned 65, retired, and bought my first ever motorcycle. A little Yamaha V Star 250. I rode that little Yamaha over 18,000 miles that first year. But, I’m crazy and didn’t know any better :) If you do ride a fair amount of the country, you will probably discover why most motorcyclists in the US ride bigger cruisers and touring bikes. But, don’t be afraid to ride something small. I have an 2007 Honda Shadow 600 now, still a small bike by US standards, and I’ve been to Mexico and Alaska on it. I do miss the 250 though, small bikes are fun.

@@EpohDerf If I had 30 days or more, I’d ride all the way across the country. If I had 2 weeks, I’d fly into Denver, and ride Colorado, Utah, Arizona, California, and fly home from San Diego, Los Angeles, or Las Vegas. I’m a wanderer though, and not much of a destination rider. My wife always reminds me that I’m the odd one, it’s everyone else who is normal. :)
