Hidden Gem or Hidden Evil?
Releasing shortly after the 9th Star Trek film, Hidden Evil sees the player return to the Ba'ku planet to face a new threat.
But with the game appearing on so many 'worst of lists' is actually that bad or is it a misunderstood hidden gem?

Theme Hospital Has Been Given a Fresh Coat of Paint
Просмотров 697День назад
The late 90's saw a flurry of management simulation games for PC & console release. With many of them being developed by Bullfrog Productions. One of the more interesting titles & arguably the one which has stood the test of time the most is 1997's Theme Hospital. And thanks to an amazing community mod called CorsixTH, it can be played with a much more modern presentation while maintaining ever...

But 15 odd years later, is the game still playable? And just how well has it held u...

What if the "Hidden Evil" was the friends we made along the way?
I remember always playing this game as a kid and never getting passed the part with the giant crocodile 😂
star trek insurrection doesn't have an original script, its essentially the TNG Episode "Journey's End' but Picard makes a different choice.
I remember enjoying it for what it was, but that it never really felt like a 'full game'. I seem to recall Activision saying at the time that Hidden Evil was meant to be part of a sub genre of Star Trek titles that might RRP for a lower price but be comparatively stripped back in terms of content. Cheaper to buy and faster to market. And then Hidden Evil ended up being the only one, lol
I completed it back then, i don't remember much about the game except the title and that it was ok enough, yeah that was long long time ago...
Star Trek: Insurrection is unironically my favorite Trek movie. But I still do not feel compelled to play this game.
You think this is the worst Star Trek game? Then you haven't played Away Team yet. Prepare to be frustrated more than a Klingon cleaning up a tribble infested ship.
I’ve actually never played Away Team but I really want to… might look into it soon!
Hey, I asked for this one a while back, nice to see it again after so long. Seems like I really don't remember it that much. I remember that bit with the steam bridge that I could never get past as a kid, but nice to see the graphics and design is still pretty nice, at least the people working on that were awake at the wheel.
Oh yeah there was no way I would have solved that as a kid!
I remember liking enough the game back then when I was a kid but not as much as the other even the likes of Away Team. I installed it back on my Steam Deck, would be curious to try the controls here. Regarding the story and the romulans, I wonder if this game doesn't have them because of the first draft of the movie that included the Romulans.
I've noticed a sort of trend with Star Trek adventure games- they all started to feature mazed.... Generations had a maze for every level, Harbingers seconds half was a maze, honor guard was 'find the keycard in the maze' and this game had the Romulan station and the weird engine deck maze.
Presto studios was a great developer, I'd recommend 'The journey man project' games and "myst 3" exile to anyone. But this did miss the mark.
I’ve heard good things about the journeyman project… might need to check it out!
Funny coincidence you put this up cause on this exact day 25 years ago, December 17th 1999, i got this for my birthday alongside Quake 3 Arena. Couldve been a lot better game there was potential
There you go! I know which one I would have spent more time playing 🤩
I don't think this game would have been as bad if it weren't for tank controls..... It would be shorter too.
far and few between
If a game is really unfun to play it might as well be short. Ironically that might lead to more people trying it out since they know the agony can only last so long. $15 is a bit steep for that experience though, there are more enjoyable free flash games that last longer.
Great video and what an interesting game!
Cheers for the kind words! It's certainly an interesting one!
Nostalgia
Hi, one question, how do you set the controls to show the XBOX buttons icons, and where did you get the widescreen patch? I am using the GoG version and it does not have a good gamepad support (it is awful), it does not have support for triggers or d-pad and cannot bind the same button for more than one action (like B for action and reload, it does not let you), how do you bypass this problem? Or is your the steam version and works better?
That's strange... I didn't make any changes for control. This is the GOG version. The widescreen patch is here: community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/1388-indiana-jones-and-the-emperors-tomb-wsgf-dr-mods/ Maybe just check you have selected controller as the input.
Snowy should have been 3rd person
Just bought the ps5 limited edition from Amazon for 15 euro, can't wait to play it!!
Gonna point out 'two point hospital', one of the of the more recent copycats of this game is made by some of the same developers from Bullfrog and Mucky foot. They've also brought back the dream of making an integrated sim management world, with two point campus and two point museum. but I've only played hospital so far. I think its about as good as a sequel you can get with stepping on litigious copyright infringing toes. If the lack of mod cons is an issue, you can do a lot worse.
Those damn earthquakes
Great, now I gotta play Theme Hospital again.
Omggggg I freaked loved this as a kid
Theme Hospital is just such a nostalgic game
I absolutely love Theme Hospital! Still play it at times & have memorised the cheats all these years later. 24328
Nice summary video of one of my favorite childhood games. I still replay Theme Hospital via CorsixTH every couple years when I feel the nostalgia. Note that there is a quality-of-life feature with CorsixTH that remembers your chosen items for a particular room, so for a subsequent build of that same type of room (e.g. a second GP Office), the items you previously bought for the room will be pre-selected.
AzorDash is there a first-person shooter (doom clone) family tree or something?
Two Point Hospital is a great spiritual successor
Indeed it is. It captures the original gameplay loop and changes things just enough for things to feel refreshing. Absolutely worth trying out if one likes original. I like both equally as much.
Dr required in GP surgery....still rings in my head almost 30 years later
Office
Loving the Trek reviews and bringing back childhood memories. But even as a child, I knew Generations fell short of The Final Frontier. The latter had all the optimism and character conflict of Star Trek that the former lacked at every turn. As for Kirk’s double demise, it’s nothing to Spock even though we learnt of the Vulcan’s reincarnation. II easily the best, followed closely by VI. The only TNG film worth mentioning is First Contact.
I think about elite forces on my ps2 and wish daily to be playing it in my ps5.
Steam October 2024: Patch 1.0.8 is now live 🛠 Hello Reporters, A new patch has just been deployed to improve your adventure: Improved handling of Tintin Various interface and navigation improvements Improved Snowy’s sense of smell Added the horseriding sequence Added a hint system for puzzles Added Tintinologist Mode Added Character Gallery Bug fixes

The issue of the running this game on modern pc's is in two directdraw files. Google "star trek ddra2" and you will find the solution.
It did get a remaster
I've only played the ps2 version. I don't pc game.i hope the allow me to buy on playstation one day ive never played the sequel I know I'm hoping for alot but that's just how I play. Startrek games should always be on a big tv.
Yes
The dim-lights is just the flavour from the Unreal Engine, like Deus Ex, like Clive Barker's Undying, and like Unreal itself as well as Unreal Tournament.
It's not a "survival horror", how is it "survival"? It's an action horror game with 0 survival elements. You didn't explain this, I really wanted to hear what kind of bullshit would you say about it being "survival".
Nice retrospective! I had a great time playing through the Doom RPG on the 50x50 screen of my very first Motorola flip phone. So glad to hear it has modern ports too!
I really enjoyed this game in 97. The asethetics is very trek. Alas I never beat the final level. Would love to play a remake.
shame, the game looks really fun, but those issues sound very glaring. Maybe one to get on sale when I'm desperate for a Max Payne style experience that isn't Max Payne, Stranglehold or El Paso everywhere...
I played this game as a kid. When i saw the video, i literally stopped what i was doing, made a coffee and sat down. Now to unpause and enjoy. Keep em coming mate.
Cheers for the super kind words! Enjoy the coffee 😀
I got the "Commander Keen complete pack" for a few bucks on steam. To bad it didn't contain aliens abducted my babysitter, that was the game I liked the most.
This game is mt childhood. I definitely liked thst you made a video about it.
Absolutely wonderful game, agreed with everyone else. Very hard at times but honestly that made it better. It was nice to play a challenging game and there were no shortage of them back in those days
The review in this video you gave for this game was solid. I never was able to finish it due to the game crashing, it was during the mission where the USS Sovereign was ordered to get as close to what remained of the vasuvi star to find out what happened. On another note. I've been curious to know if you've played any of the Freespace games that I told you about?
Cheers for the kind words! I have the Freespace games on my "To be played list"... a list which I will hopefully be putting a dent in over the holiday period!
@@azordash_games Good to hear, there's is one last thing you need to know. Both Freespace 1 and 2 have training missions at the beginning and I think 1/4 through their campaigns. Each of them has a skip button in the mission briefings, but It's important that you don't skip them on your first runs, trust me.
the premise of going through hell and time and visual story telling was amazing. I wish we had more of this sorta stuff.
Hi! What do you think about Star Trek Elite Force II?
I love this game, this game was my jam back in high school
My first Fps ever. I've beaten it multiple times to this day and love it the same ❤
