I just recently came across your channel and when i felt i missed a "K" after your subscriber count, i just had to subscribe. I've browsed through your videos and ironically THIS was the title I missed amongst the others and suddenly it just pops up, as if you knew what i was thinking! So glad you reviewed this game. I remember Max Payne fondly and how awesome bullet time was when I got the hang of it. Comparing it to modern games i don't recall it being particularly hard, but this was twenty years ago and my memory doesn't serve well in all regards. Although after your words, i feel content that I've played through a "hard" game now when struggling with modern titles on the easy setting. Cheers!
Thanks for the super kind words! ...and yes, I can assure you the original is a lot harder than I remember as a kid 20 odd years ago. It will be interesting to see if the upcoming remaster/remake from Remedy changes some of the difficulty for a more 'modern' audience.
Max Payne 2 grabbed everything good about 1 and improved it. Sure it's easier and less edgy, but it still maintains the action-packed greatness of the first one.

Max Payne 1: I actually think this game isn’t necessarily “difficult” but rather that theee are some sections of the game where it feels like you are EXPECTED to die a few times before you figure it out. Once you know what to do for the entire game, it’s not that bad. I will say that the dream sequences with the bloodlines in the dark absolutely SUCK and should be changed for the remake Max Payne 2: I actually think that the issue with the story in this game isn’t the reuse of characters , but rather that the game’s narrative relies almost entirely on the duality of Mona and Max. They could’ve dug more into the members of the Inner Circle, interactions with Alfred Woden, more levels where you play Mona’s perspective. More story between Vlad and Alfred Woden. They didn’t dig enough into the characters they had, so everything felt a little flat outside of “When is Max and Mona gonna get it on?”
I disagree, but respect your opinion. Your overall assessment of the games is great. You do understand them and it's clear you love them. Great video. Where I disagree though is which one is better, but that's the topic anyway. Only reason I disagree is that story trumps all for me. The gameplay in both is very similar, but the downgrade that 1 is from 2 isnt substantial enough for me to dock points. 2 is still phenomenal, but I personally would enjoy a game with horrible mechanic, but great story over a game with great mechanics and a bad story. Not that 2 is a bad story cause it isn't, but you know what I mean. What I will give 2, though, is while the metaphors are not better than the original, Max Payne's quotes are.
You know it was agonizing deciding which one I ultimately thought was better, I literally took a few days to finish the video because of it. I generally agree with you on the story trumping mechanics. Honestly I think what did it for me was the frustration of the enemy placement in the first one, after a while it got old very quickly. However, totally agree the story is much better. I'm sure there are people who will defend the story of the second, but for me it was a mess. Cheers for the kind comments though!
@azordash_games Just now seeing your reply. My apologies. 2 is like I said phenomenal. I won't knock it from being your choice, after thinking a little I can 100% fall in line with you about enemy placement. It is absolutely frustrating and like you said the glass canon that he is in 1 can turn the tides of any level. None the less this video is about as well put together as the games are. It's an amazing watch and was great to hear the point of view from someone that clearly loves this franchise as much as myself. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the remakes if you make one!

Both are good, for me the first was better, pretty much because was more cohesive, yet the second is a quite good sequel, and take some things and works on them, is different but still kept some core elements

The official remake for both 1 and 2 should be out later this year so could be a good time to head back!

Some great points here… I do dislike the old trial and error segments of the first game.

It's only hard cause you don't use all your abilities (regular bullet time).

Max 1 have Bosses fight , Max 2 have only 1 boss . Max 1 is hard , Max 2 is easy due to Bulletine Time is auto generate .
Wish they put Max Payne 2 on iOS like they did the 1st one so I can play both.
