    I recently traveled from Edmonton to Newmarket, and I was pleased at how easy it was to connect from Pearson, to Union, to the Barrie GO train. And cheaper than eenting a car to drive yhy distance. On the UP line, riders CAN transfer to the GO Kitchener line without going all the way to Union. Not perfect by any means, but holy hck its remarkably improved from what was there before.

      @ auto dubs could be useful if they gave the viewer better control over what languages they do or don't want dubbed - for instance, if I were to watch a video in my second language, I wouldn't want it dubbed, but dubbing could be useful for languages I don't speak. But I don't think there's a setting to tell RUclips that. Maybe some day they'll sort this out. You're the second viewer who's complained about the AI dubbing, and nobody has said they liked it, so I've turned it off for future videos and requested the existing dubs to be unpublished.

    Sir John A is in a box...someone has to explain is the scapegoat for all the residential schools. First off, every politician in the country pretty much endorsed this policy. Two, the churches ran these schools and are the villians as much as anything. Sir John A was a symbol of his time. Making him carry the weight for the residential school system is making it sound he thought this up on his own and ran it.. he didnt. Plus, Wilfrid Laurier expanded the practice of these schools, and endorsed it as a way to make natives "productive" . I dont see any boxes on Laurier statues. Could it be because the ruling Liberals in Ottawa don't want to mess about with their founding myths?

    From what I remember, that suspension bridge is one of our Frank Barber bridges, and I think he just wanted a crack at designing a suspension bridge for a change. Southern Ontario used to be peppered with Frank Barber bridges... many were bow arch bridges, a lot were pony trusses... as time's gone by, many have been replaced by newer, wider bridges, but a lot of them still remain. Someone might correct me, but I do think that suspension bridge is one of Frank Barber's originals still standing and still in use.

    After traveling to Europe it’s been fascinating to realize how terrible North America is at connecting their cities to transit. Amsterdam and Frankfurt both have major transit hubs at the airport. You can take local rail or long distance right from the airport with no connections. I’m sure there’s more in Europe that I haven’t experienced, but you could easily replicate the experience you get at Amsterdam or Frankfurt at most cities in the US and Canada.

    They still dropped the ball on rail to the airport, for some reason the province think only people from Toronto use the airport, from the west we only have the go bus from downtown hamilton, no parking no connectors to it, just a scary dump bus station in the downtown core. Then you still run the risk of missing your flight because the bus uses the same triple overloaded 403, qew. So no matter what we have to drive to the airport clogging the roads and parking up even more! But then what can you expect from this province? All they seem to do is make things worse regardless of party

    im a pretty big infrastructure nerd, but im also a huge plane nerd. put them together, and it results in me, a broke university student taking random trips to the airport. I live in north york, so its pretty difficult. Ive tried all the methods to get to Pearson: TTC (finch station -> bloor yonge station -> kipling station -> airport express), go bus (sheppard west station -> yorkdale station -> go bus to pearson), and UP express ( finch station -> union station -> UP express). Of all of these, the fastest is by far the go bus, it takes less than an hour, and on a good day you could do it in under half an hour! the cheapest is the ttc, although this trip takes at least an hour, and thats on a good day, itll probably be more like an hour and a half, maybe even 2 hours if theres delays or lots of people. the UP express is the most scenic route, and for nerds like myself is super fun. Takes around an hour and a half for me. If you live/are traveling to/from the downtown core, then the UP express is probably the fastest since it connects to union. good service, but LOTS and i mean LOTS of room for improvement, particularly for folks that live uptown/GTA. Good video!

The rail project to Tullamarine has been delayed so long that the $10bil AUD in funding is now no longer enough to cover the cost of the project which has ballooned to $13bil AUD with an estimated completion date of 2033!!!

    Love your video and your take on the current situation in Canada, particularly Toronto. Canada, is at least 200 years behind the rest of the world when it comes to transportation and infrastructure. I never heard a word about private infrastructure, or investment into private rail lines and infrastructure, it’s always about what the government can do. Perhaps you could take a look at how the world’s largest city and largest rail system in the world operates, Tokyo Japan. And a lot of European countries also have amazing rail infrastructure. All of these places have very high ridership because they are extremely efficient, and ultra modern.

    I don't know why it is so important to connect the airport to a 'higher rail' link. Using Zurich as an example, although the airport does have multiple links to the near neighbourhoods, if you want to travel from say Zurich airport to Geneve by train, you first have to catch the airport link to downtown Zurich main station and then catch a different train to Geneve.

    • @markplain2555

      The only thing I get is that if you live mid-town Toronto and want to use the transit system to get to the airport, you first have to go down to Union station and then catch the UP to the airport. Only there I see the benefit of the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension going onto the airpot.

    • @notsmoothsteve
      @notsmoothsteve 7 дней назад

      You can get on the UP Express at Bloor Street (Dundas West subway station, and there's a tunnel eventually coming between the two) and Weston, and there's also a station ready at Mount Dennis in case the Eglinton Crosstown LRT ever opens, so you don't have to go all the way down to Union if one of those others is more convenient - but if you don't live near one of them you do still need to transfer.

    European airports are government owned. Americans are privately owned or owned by local government mixed companies. Don’t know about Canada. European airports don’t need to make a profit, breaking even is the goal. If they make a profit, even better. American Airports HAVE to make a profit. Parking fees are a huge factor in this profit making process. Rail to airport wouldn’t make sense, financially, for American Airports. That is WHY European airports have rail connections and Americans don’t

    Question about luggage. If I’m hooking up to the airport via train, I’m probably carrying a bag to be checked and maybe even a carry-on. Do go,trains or via trains have the capacity to carry all that stuff? I know the people mover between 1&3 has wide aisles and standing room, but not a traditional Go or Via. My situation is that I’d eventually like to get rail from London Ont. to Pearson. Seems like there’re so many obstacles to that right now.

    Very interesting video. During WWII the rail line that ran into the Victory Aircraft plant had daily trains that ran from Union Station to and from the plant a few times a day. The multiple trains were for shift change times. After the war and when Malton was then deemed the main airport I always thought why not send the rail line down the street to the wooden terminal building terminal building. Would not have been to hard at the time as the area was still mostly farmland. Oh well like many things, that sounded like a good idea but never happened.
