- Spadina Station seems like it's made of two separate stations ... because it is! And neither one was originally going to be called Spadina. Come along with me to explore the history behind this busy interchange station.

Cool you remember the Spadina Bus Song. I remember the whole hoop and holler about stopping the Spadina Expressway and the consolation prize known as the Spadina Subway. My best memory of the Spadina Station was the day I got my acceptance to U of T and running down that corridor so that I could make it to St. George station to drop off my acknowledgement that very day (I had until 4:00 p.m. and because of my Grade 13 English Exam (yes I am really dating myself) I could only make it down at 3:00 p.m.
I'm in the U of T Skule Stageband (the engineering jazz band), and Spadina Bus is a mainstay in our setlist to this day. Spadina also happens to be my home station... so this video hits home for sure!
@@intrstellr3792 no longer the Lady Godiva Band 😞In my time your mainstay was Hogan's Heroes.
@@captainjoshuagleiberman2778 nope that's a completely different band! you better believe the LGMB (a.k.a. the bnad) is still around... I've played the stop sign for them. Out of curiosity, which year/discipline were you?

❤this video I recalled the long walk and the escalator that use to be there at the Spadina station from the 80s and cool details about the house 🏠 super cool
OMG, I never even knew about that house exit. Always loved how weird Spadina station was. Almost as crazy as Young and Bloor. I definitely want to make a pit stop there next time I'm in town.
I remember the moving walkways and of course Spadina Bus song by The Shuffle Demons
I used to live close to the Kendal exit years ago. I regularly encountered TTC users -- and not just tourists -- who emerged at this exit disoriented because they'd been told to "go to Spadina Station" to get to U of T or Chinatown or Bloor West but now here they were in the middle of nowhere needing directions and facing a long hike. I wrote to the TTC explaining this problem and suggesting they provide this distinct station its own name -- I suggested "Annex" or "Spadina-Annex", but anything at all would do. The TTC replied that they were passing the suggestion to the Wayfinding Committee. That was the last I heard of it, many years ago.
Love your content
Well!
I thoroughly enjoyed watching that, Thank You Very Much!
🎯 and the "This Guy Knows What He's Talking About" award goes to: YOU!
🏆 💐 🌟 👑
Thanks again, WELL DONE.
❤
FYI the interstitial chimes are still quite loud compared to the rest of the audio.
I miss that moving walkway - maybe we could get some crowd-funding to reinstate it!
I still miss those walkways. They were just really out of place and so few people actually transfer using that interchange so it was a nice oddity to experience.
Very succinct.
Great video as always! I can see you being the next Tom Scott!
my new favourite page!
I still remember the long escalator that used to run between line 1 and 2! I’m a new subscriber as well Thank you for sharing
Loved the video! I live south of Spadina-Bloor, so with the walk through the long Spadina Station hallway and speed restrictions, it really has been faster to hop on Line 2 and change at St. George!
I'll go check that nicest station myself. Thanks for sharing
Ohhh. I didn't realize they took out the moving escalator. That's what I loved about that station.
Great video. I love your style. Thank you
The Spadina Bus, the Spadina Bus. 77A. 77B. The Spadina Bus, the Spadina Bus
Great video! My first apartment was at Spadina and Lowther and the Spadina station was closest to me when the weather wasn't great. I liked being able to use the connecting tunnel walkway, many happy memories, thanks!
I'm gonna check out Norman B Gash house! Cool piece of history
The long moving walkway was removed in 2004 because of budget restraints. Of course the moving walkways at Pearson Airport are still there because the elite use it, but don't use public transit.
The elite aren't the only people who use Pearson airport 😂😂 ...the rest of your comment is valid though.
@@KardiFan2000Depends on perspective, the lowest common transit rider and lowest common tourist/vacationer airplane rider are definitely different demographics.
@@seshpenguin Granted. Although calling the general economy flight passenger "elite" is definitely a stretch.
It would sure be nice to have a moving walkway again there.
Have you been on a flight in the last 50 years? Flights are crawling with low lifes from all walks of life. Flying was elite in the 60s. Men wore suits and women dressed up. Now it’s slob culture central like everywhere else.
Well done.
Steve, these are great videos! Subscribed!
perfect music video location!
I was wondering what the handrails along the corridor were. Great video
Awesome video - thanks!
I normally take line 1 and use Bedford entrance to avoid the walk. Next time I will pass by Spadina by bike and check it out.

You should really do a video on the military industry across Toronto and Durham region up to Oshawa and Bowmanville starting at like the longbranch armoury. Could go right through all the industry from Toronto along the way including DIL ajax, the psychiatric hospital to camp x and camp 30
spadina bus! SPADINA BUS!
Ha ha ha I remember the song very very well. I grew up at King and Dufferin and those guys used to jam at Spadina and queen was a few songs but for TORONTO, which was true at the time they had another song called roach get out of my house…. They were called the shuffle demons.
Good videos, but plan views would be helpful, especially for a station as complex as Spadina.
Give me confirmation on my information about my transportation from Spadina Station
I've already subscribed. sooooo...will a comment and a like do?
What is upstairs in the Nash house?
I've read that the TTC uses it, primarily for storage.
Only bungling bureaucrats would give two different subway stations the same name.
It's pronounced La-ow-ther
