This was a quick little outing to the beach while on a non vacation related trip. I found mostly common shells, but it was all really new to me so I wanted to film a quick video despite my limited amount of time!

UH OH!!!! You took the show on the road.🛫🛫🛫🛫🛫🛫🛫🛫🛫✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈
I like sound of the sea in the background.
Glad you like it!
How cool! Always neat to see different shells!
I know right? Thanks so much for watching!
That was so fun! I would have picked up everything. That ark and the limpet are awesome 😊
It was so cool to see some completely new shells! It's really neat that those arks do look very similar to the ones in the US though. Thank you so much for watching!
Hey, Shell Stories you're teasing us!!
If only I had more time to film a longer video! That's just life sometimes. Thank you for watching!
The sounds of people and ocean in the background is making me so happy! I do like shells also! 😊
Happy you liked it :)
Lovely shells. Do you have a source book for European shells or a good website for identification? I travelled to some beaches on the Atlantic side of France & Spain, but I can't find a good reference to identify the shells I found.
Thank you! If you go to iNaturalist.org, narrow the map search to the area of your choice (i.e western European coast) and enter mollusks as the species, it will show you the species that have been found there and I find it to be a really useful source. Also for the Mediterranean coast I did find a cool online guide too. It's not the same as the Atlantic species, but there is certainly some overlap in diversity between the two coasts: www.idscaro.net/sci/04_med/index.htm
What great finds! The baby’s ears ❤ I just found my first wentletrap this summer and it was a brown-banded one! That itty bitty shell made my summer! Was about half or smaller than the one you found. Love that you found that shell. The bonnet, murexes….a great haul 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you so much! And congrats on your wentletrap find! It was such a good day for baby's ears and I just couldn't believe the scotch bonnet either. Definitely one of my better outings from the past year or so.
@@shellstories That's awesome!
Nice haul of sharks eyes!
Thank you so much! :)
Give me the shark eyes!!! this is a good day
I'm excited for all your finds!
I’ve been to Holden several times. I have never found olives that are very dark. Only the lighter colours. Wish I was able to go there more often. Thanks for sharing this awesome adventure.😊
I think if you hit the right day and it happens to be one of the olives are everywhere type of days it's probably possible. Thank you so much for watching!
I live very close to Holden beach
When do you know to go shelling. Best time
Honestly go whenever and trial and error until you find your rhythm. Of course low tide is better too!
Nice big ole haul!!!!
It was amazing!
Wow! I haven’t see shells likes those wash up in years.
It was a really awesome day :)
What treasures you found... did you keep the fossil??? Those baby's ears are my favorite.. well they all are but wish I had a jar of them..
Thank you so much! I do think I kept the fossil but I can't really remember. It was so good for baby's ears I couldn't believe it!
You can find shark teeth there tooo one of the best beaches for shark teeth I been told and other different fossils I'm going from 15th to 18th of August to look for shark teeth
Of course! I have found them there and I'm sure you'll find some too. So many fossils too, not just sea biscuits. I hope you find tons of awesome stuff!
@@shellstories thank you so much!
@@shellstories I love your videos also
When was this filmed also where on Holden was this? I was just there and it was nothing like this 😭
She said it was filmed during the winter when there were more shells. It would be nice if the videos dropped during the same season they were filmed. It would be much less confusing.
Is this from January or February?
What a wonderful batch 🐚you've collected!
Thank you so much!
I've noticed you not picking those "Mossy Arks, Turkey Wings!" Do they have low value over there?
Theres so many of them and I already have a ton, I don't feel the need to pick up every single one. Thanks for watching!!
What is shelling like on Holden Beach in September?
I've never been in September so I can't speak from any experience, but I've seen people post pretty spectacular hauls from summer and fall from there so I assume it's pretty good. Probably not as consistent as winter but if you hit the right day I'm sure you'll find stuff.
Wow!!! Awesome beach walk! Those shark eyes were amazing!
I know right! I couldn't believe how many there were!
I think I see many turkey wings and u just skip over them. Was wondering why?
They're actually mossy arks, but they're so common over there that I don't feel the need to pick up every single one since I already have so many. Thank you for watching :)
Love all the shells 🐚
Thank you!!
Love love Babies Ears !!
It was a great day for them!
Yes fill up jars full of baby ears, olives, augers and so on. I have many jars of each. I just can't pass up those shells. I also love the jingles, they are so pretty in a window.
Definitely a good future project idea! Thanks for watching :)
You can find that exact looking tooth in the Kansas Chalk formations among other shark types
That's awesome!
Born and raised at Holden Beach! Love to call it home! Grew up ok the shore with my dads love for fishing and my moms love for shelling! Glad i stumbled across your videos!❤
Awesome to hear! Thanks so much for watching :)
And it is so strange that just a few miles south at Sunset Beach, there are practically zero shells.
It is quite weird. Although when I went, I did have luck finding shells there in the rocks (made a video about it too) so maybe not all hope is lost!
Do you collect shells 🐚 or just pick them up and throw them back down?
Some of the nicer shells I keep, and I leave a lot behind. Usually after multiple days of shelling I have bagfulls of shells I don't really need and return those to the beach.
Where is Holden Beach? Up north? Or in Florida???
It's in North Carolina. Not FL which may come as a surprise for sure.
You found a “Paul Newman Shark Eye”! The blue eye.
Oh my gosh…lettered olives were everywhere!
It was nothing like I've seen before!
Omgosh.. I was going banas!!! Baby's ears are the best.. but I wish I was there I love them can't wait for part 2!!!!
Thank you so much! Part 2 will be super fun :)
Thank you so much for that walk along the beach. It has been many years since I’ve been and I have missed the ocean. you have a nice collection!
Thank you so much!
Holden beach is one of the nastiest beaches! I unfortunately live here😢 you should check out ocean isle or sunset! I live near the food lion lol.
My first impression wasn't too negative. I thought it's pretty normal for a commercialized island in the US east coast, but I do agree Sunset is fancier. It is the best in the state for shelling though!
I like that it isn't as tourist"y" as the others
Wow so many baby’s ears 😍 That would be so fun picking those up ❤ Lot’s of shells in that area. It’s on my bucket list 👍🏼 Great shelling midday!
It's incredible how loaded that beach is with them. Shelling there is so much different than southwest Florida. Thank you so much for watching!
Yes we have shark teeth and lots of other fossils here! It’s so fun🎉
When was this filmed? I live here in Lockwood Folly a few mins from Holden Beach and that looks like winter shell piles. It’s season now and it looks quite different plus it looks like you have winter clothes on lol
You are absolutely correct, this is from winter. I have a backlog of footage from the trip so naturally it takes time before I get through everything. Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
I'd love to visit a proper shelling beach someday. I've found some pretty incredible things on average beaches, so I'm really curious to see what I can find somewhere with that many shells!
I'm sure you would find awesome stuff, highly recommended! Thank you for watching :)
Honestly could not believe the olives! Question, do you ever find shark teeth on Holden or is that not really a thing over there? Those piles just look like they would have teeth in them 😂
Yes, I have found shark teeth on Holden, it's totally a thing there. Thank you so much :)
So cool. The shark eyes, baby ears and olives are beautiful there. I would love to find some tusk. Never found one before. Does the north end of Holden seem to have more shells at times?
The northwest side of the island is pretty good. By the pier there are usually good shell beds but when I went to the tip of the island I didn't find anything. Tusks are all over the place though! Thank you so much for watching and commenting :)
Shell-vana 😊
It was a great day!
Wow that was amazing I wish I could find that many shells in 1 day 🤗
It's usually the matter of hitting the right day, I got pretty lucky. Thanks for watching!
Wow that was an awesome shell morning 😊
I know, right? Thank you so much!
Where is the best shelling on Holden Beach? Interested in flying down for a week of shelling. Not at all familiar with the area.
I'd say around the pier is a solid bet, though of course beach conditions change daily so you never fully know what it will be like. Thank you so much for watching :)
When is the best time of year for shelling there?
Off season plus winter is the best, so probably from around November through March.
You hit the Sea Biscuit Bonanza that's for sure
There all over the place there! Thanks for watching :)
Surprice by geometry is great
