I see this being very useful for solo climbers that want to be ultra light and know they will have just few longer rappels on their climb.. Saves a lot of weight compared to carying two half-ropes..

I was rappelling off Sinocranium (city of rocks) yesterday and thinking about this very scene. I didn't spot the missing stopper knot on the black on black, but I spotted the rest and it always bugged me a bit. I was surprised they just had 2 lines on an ATC with no friction knot or redundancy, like a kleimheist, prussik, or autoblock tied as a 3rd hand.

A good friend of mine is a stunt coordinator in film/tv and he was doing a show with Bear Grylls. He said the producers gave him and his stunt team branded Bear Grylls machetes. He observed that the machetes seemed to be of cheap quality as my buddy is also an armorer and trained swordsman. He said that upon unsheathing his and taking the first whack at something the blade completely delaminated from the plastic handle and went soaring into the woods almost hitting another crew member. He brought the handle back to the producers and told them he didn’t care about the branding and there was no way anyone on set should be using any of them. They quickly collected all of the machetes they had deployed and did the piece making their way into the woods without them as they really didn’t even need them and were only distributed for dramatic effect and product placement. My buddy (the stunt coordinator) who has over two decades of weapons training, has real bush craft training and has multiple rescue certifications including ICAR & MRA said Bear is a total hack.

The ultimate danger in this video was getting Alex to even humor the idea of doing a rappel with this hack. I can’t believe the level of misinformation.

everyone already knows that bears show is scripted. he doesnt actually sleep in these remote places or anything like that. But yes he does eat gross shit. But at the same time you cant bash bear for not knowing how to climb or pulling on the wrong shit to help himself. this video seems very unfocused on "climber cringe" but rather bashing a show that everyone already knows is fake but people still love it because he actually does give useful info in the show that would help you. but bashing hia climbing ability is kinda lame imo.

People that say they wouldn't use a progress capture pulley for belaying forget that it is often used exactly for this in rescue hauling. Also the microtraxion is ok to use for toprope belay on easy terrain according to Petzl.
