The best way to increase your iron is through food: organ meats, beans, dried fruits, dark chocolate/cacao, spirulina, and fortified products like dairy and oj. Cut out caffeine and increase citrus to help with absorption <3 My iron was rock bottom and just doing those last two things actually helped a lot

If you feel comfortable, it would be interesting to know what (if any) support or monitoring you receive as an outpatient . A lot of people talk about inpatient, but I was just wondering what the support is like for people, either after inpatient or for people who receive input in the community. I have a friend who is currently trying to recover from home, but the help seems really minimal. It's been almost 10 years since I was under ED services and a lot seems to have changed.

As someone who is still recovering, but is further along in their recovery, you’re doing great, you do you whatever works is good. I have been following your journey from the beginning, and it’s incredible how far you have come. Life will move in as your eating disorder moves out. The bit in between when there’s this uncertain space to navigate is hard, but eating disorders don’t pick on weak people. One day, food will just be food, your mind will be a much more pleasant place to spend your time, and you will discover what me means again. After all, your eating disorder needs you much more than you need it.

Hi Demi , have you received your PIP money and back pay as of yet as I was 26 years old when I got mine ( as you know I'm lucky enough to have reached 50 years old now ) despite my horrific 35 year old eating disorder and I was awarded a back payment of 10K via PIP and I'm now on Full Payments for both categories ... You MUST get a letter from whoever is your local MP to support your case as PIP DONT LIKE them getting involved ( I think I've already told you this ages ago on insta hun as my Mum used to work for the police hence how she knew all the ins and outs of getting this mandatory benefit and it doesnt matter how much you earn in virtually any job that you WILL Definitely be entitled to it . Recovery isn't about weight. If it was then you could just be sedated, have an NG tube shoved down your nose and pumped full of feed until weight restored. It would achieve nothing. Weight is a symptom, not a cause. Give yourself time to fully recover. I know work is really important to you, and that is great but please be fully better before you seek employment. Recovery is a full time job and it's exhausting. The better you get the worse you can feel if that makes sense. Don't use work as a way to run away from how you are feeling. Allow yourself the ups and downs, allow yourself to fully recover. Work can wait

@@Demiproudman @Demiproudman I hear you, but I think this is another place where you have to put your likes aside and do what is necessary. Your breakfast (and all meals) should be around 800 or more calories. Can you truly say that is what your bowl of yogurt added up to? This doesn't need to be VOLUME. Like have a proper portion of oatmeal and then to help increase the calories, use cream instead of milk, have the FULL FAT yogurt, double up on the chocolate topping and add WAYYY more nut butter girl, not just a tinny spoonful. You need to do things BIG. Not just little spreads or little sprinkles. That won't get you (or anyone who has been starved) better. You truly need to make each meal as calorie dense as possible and with the most fats. Just DUMP that oil in the pasta dish. Add all the cheese on top. In your sandwich, USE BUTTER. Doesn't matter if you don't care for the taste. This is your health. My sister currently has cancer. Of course she would rather not go to chemo. It makes her not feel good and sick. But she has said she would do anything for her health (even if she were in my position. She would do everything needed) Our likes go out the window in this. I think too many people are making recovery out to be this "fun" and "light" thing. Yes it can be enjoyable to try new foods and eat fear foods again. But overall, it's a medical diet and it's about eating enough and enough of the right foods. It's not just "have a snack of whatever" when you are hungry. That snack needs to be ENOUGH and count. It needs to provide all the calories. Every meal and snack needs to be enough. It's hard. I know. But it's possible. You really just have to do it. I was served SUPER thick creamy oatmeal with oil pools on top. If I had to choose, no I wouldn't pick it. But nobody picks the chemo either. It's what is needed to get better. I ate that oatmeal. I ate my 500 calorie snacks. I ate my meals loaded with butter and cream and nuts (my oatmeal was made with milk and cream and oil, ground nuts into the oats, sugar, etc. ) I had my drinks with each snack and meal. It wasn't just for taste or a few chocolates after dinner. It would be a FULL chocolate bar, plus sides and a drink (not water). You are very motivated. I can see it!! But I think it's time to REALLY do the hard stuff. You have to put your wants aside. It will be hard. But think of how you would help your child. Or a friend. I find it helpful to think that way. Act like a doctor to yourself. Serve and prepare yourself the meals you would for a starving child. Would you give them a few dates for a snack? Would you serve them some pasta and a light tomato sauce? That child needs fats. And LOTS of them. Those meals and snacks will just keep them sick. They don't deserve that. You don't!! I have lots more to say, I am sorry my comments are always so long, lol. Perhaps I could private message you instead haha. Anyways, I didn't know all this before. I learned it. And I think more people need to know. It takes A LOT more than they think. And it's not always fun or what they want. It's literally just doing the plan and what is needed. That's all.

How you are feeling now is a really important part to navigate through and really if you wasn’t having the ebs and flows it would show you were letting the ED win. This is all part of the processing, the recovering and the journey and it’s perfectly ok ❤ With reading and other ‘restful’ activities that often cause guilt and anxiety try to set hold your self to do it for 10 minutes, one chapter etc and then you can either do something else or extend the time. Audio books may be helpful when concentration is super hard but with time and perseverance it will return 😊

Hey Demi, I think you are a bright light in this world I look forward to your videos. You laugh at the same things as I would and get upset at the same things I would too. I just want to say that you need to give yourself some credit. You are right on track when others would turn around because it’s too hard. You are doing so well day by day even when the thoughts consume you, you keep going! Well bloody done 👏🏻 ❤ keep going! Xxx

also about the part of being stressed around timings of your dinner/lunch I can relate its hard. but try remember at the end of the day your body doesnt know! "hang on thats 20 minutes later then normal!" it just views it as that was my energy as its about how you overall had (if that makes sense) like some people prefer eating early and getting most energy in the start of the day, less around night. some prefer less at morning as maybe they are asleep and more at night cos they are awake. or some prefer a over all balance. but at the end of the day all three go there energy in. so it made no difference x

im guessing this is how you feel. your not healthy but your somewhat better. your eating more but not exactly what the team expect. I understand unless we talk to people they only can look at how we ook (if that makes any sense) but I wish it wasn't the case. all I can say is keep going, you didn't come all this way to fall back. bad days happen it helps appreciate the good ones, but it wasn't going to be straight forward. if you keep going all the progress will be worth it! you will be older and never look back but live the life you dream. or do you want to look back wishing you started sooner as your still consumed

Hi Demi, glad you are feeling up to making videos again! I don't want to be another pushy stranger on the Internet but just wondered if you should postpone reading 'Ultra processed People' until you are in a better place in your recovery. You have to remember that it was written for the general public who DON'T have eating disorders or orthorexic tendencies. Processed foods can be a really important part of eating disorder recovery, particularly whilst nutritionally rehabilitating, for multiple reasons: they are nutritionally dense; they are convenient and quick options, especially when on the go; and they are often the foods demonised by eating disorders/that you restricted in the past. That book's messages may be relevant to other people, but it probably isn't the most helpful or relevant to you right now! Sending love

Thankyou so much!! I appreciate your view on this wholeheartedly for sure, it’s a super interesting book and I am really fascinated by food and science and how the body works etc but yes it’s important to not get overwhelmed and too consumed by this 😊

@@Demiproudman keep in mind you are the unicorn right now - the polar opposite of everyone else. I had this discussion with a friend today about mindful eating. I explained to her that when eating in recovery you can feel ok about using distractions and comforting things like listening to podcasts, watching movies, doing "mindless" things so as not to fixate on the food ... making your environment a safe space

demi i missed your videos but glad you didn’t push yourself to film. i totally relate to what your saying at the end, im starting a job in September after being at home for 2 years and it’s a mix of emotions but it proves to me that there is a life outside of my ed. i hope that you feel more like yourself again soon ❤ recovery is like a full time job so don’t beat yourself up about not having a “purpose”. sending all the love x

I have a hard time reading and concentrating as well.. something that I really have enjoyed is getting books on audible to listen to. You can even follow along with the actual book if you want to slowly help with concentration and reading. You can get a free month trial for audible to give it a try. Hope that helps as much as it has for me :)

@@Demiproudman - get mad! Think about the wasted time to the ed, and how much you are continuing to prolong the experience of *continuing to live with the eating disorder* ...We need to push hard every day with every meal and every mouthful to drive those self-defeating thoughts and feelings out of the way and replace them with motivating reasons to get better! We stay stuck when we don't push hard from here we are. If you're feeling stuck and bored and like things aren't changing, then find your motivation again. LIFE!
