If you have mental hunger… you need to eat. The only way is honouring it. Regardless of physical hunger, mental hunger must be responded to in order to move through it
The mental hunger can go on for a really really long time. I would really be curious and reflective to think about if you’re really honouring it, you deserve to. Respond to it as much as you can, you deserve to and really need to to let your body and brain heal and learn to trust that it will be receiving the nourishment it needs
You DON'T need to wait until the next day to have your 'breakfast' oats again! If you finish the bowl and you are even the slightest bit disappointed, or wishing there was still some left, or thinking about the next day's bowl, THEN GO AND MAKE YOURSELF SOME MORE! You KNOW that you need to eat more, and this is just one way of your body telling you that. Realistically, what will happen if you make yourself another bowl of oats? It may seem hard - it may seem IMPOSSIBLE - but that's how you know you are doing the right thing. YOU GOT THIS!!! ❤
Porridge doesn't have to just be a breakfast food. You can have it any time of the day if you want it. If you like porridge, I would 100% recommend baked oats. They're unreal!
Thankyou so much, this is so true !!! I should maybe add in another bowl of oats to my day 🙌🏼 I haven’t had baked oats for a long time, I neeeeed to make them ❤️
@Demiproudman I know what it's like. When I was ill I would only allow myself 1 of something a day, once I'd eaten it, I wasn't allowed it again. I broke that cycle though and now I eat breakfast for lunch if I want to. I hope this helps. You're strong and can do this 💪🏼❤️
It’s one of the sneaky little laws and rules of an but like you say it doesn’t matter it you want something twice after all, this really helps so thank you so much it means a lot ❤
@Demiproudman It is and it's annoying too. I always remember my therapist telling me that I am the one in control of my thoughts and feelings, so if I want to put food into my mouth I can. It really helped me, I'm not sure if it'll be any help to you but you are the one in the driver's seat, if you want another bowl of porridge just think fuck it and go for it! That's how I started anyway. Sending my love flower 🌼
@@HollyGrace90it really is, I love that approach for sure and it’s so true we are in the drivers seat of all of this 🙌🏼 hahahaha yes that mindset is the best, I have had moments where I have been like that and it’s felt so good so I’m going to enjoy my oats even more now 🫢 thankyou, genuinely it means a lot to me 🫶🏻
Also: from talking to others (family, friends, people that have genuinely recovered), I have found out that it is NOT normal to constantly be thinking about your next meal. Sure, some people might have to think about it incase they need to buy something or plan in advance. But for most people, they eat their lunch or whatever and move onto the next task, not thinking about their next meal or snack until it is literally time for them to eat - and then they grab what they fancy in the moment. Or, they won't even think about food at all - but just eat something because it is offered to them. It isn't like you go for a wee then instantly start dreaming about when you can next go for a wee! No, you wee and then focus on reading or working or studying or whatever it was you were doing. And then the next time you notice you need a wee, you go - there is no telling yourself to wait, etc. It should be the same with food: thinking about it means that you need it, and so you should eat!
This is really helpful and reassuring! And that’s such a great way of thinking about it and so true !!! Thankyou for sharing that it’s made me think about it in a different way! 😊
Great work in doing the 5% yoghurt, so proud of you. I love the tshirt you wore here too, and all the helpful information and things to say to get over stuff. My fav breakfast is my summer holiday one which is OJ, watermelon, melon and pineapple, 2 weetabix and milk, one rye bread or roll with butter and emmental cheese and then a hot milky sweet coffee, then a banana for after. Right now breakfast is OJ, branflakes milk, peanut butter and bread or a banana.
Thankyou so much! Aww thank you it had been sunny so I thought I’d try and match the weather hahaha :)) that sounds delicious thankyou for the ideas 🙌🏼 I hope you are well wishing you all the best!
I agree fully with other's on the topic of mental hunger. If you were truly satisfied after eating, you would not be thinking so much about the next snack/meal. Even though you've gained a bit of weight, your body is still in energy deficit, it needs more than you are currently eating. I remember being inpatient, with a regimented meal plan, as hospitals are structured, and feeling an immense conflict within bc despite being on supplements, with food, I would Still wake up hungry at night. It was tormenting, and I felt shame for thinking about food all the time. It seemed wrong, so I didn't speak of it. Now I realize that was completely normal, while restoring weight, it was the hospital system that was not designed to teach intuitive eating. Obviously I am am aware that hospital's are not exactly ideal for ed treatment beyond life-saving measures, but I do think it can be counter - intuitive to set down rigid rules for patients who all ready have inflexible rules around food to begin with. It has taken me so many years to reverse all those meal/snack timings inside..to this day, I struggle with eating freely. I would encourage you to challenge eating porridge more than once a day, just at breakfast. It may be more satisfying, and help with extreme food cravings. Don't hold yourself to standards that do not serve you in recovery. Your body's signals do not lie.
Thankyou for this, it really helps and helps me to understand more and more why it’s happening without feeling the shame and like I’m going insane! Completely agree with you about inpatient too, I really struggled with my extreme hunger a few of the days I was there but didn’t feel comfortable to ask for more food in-front of everybody. I’m so sorry that you have gone through this too but remember how strong you are! I hope you are doing okay and I’m sending all my best wishes ❤️
Hi i also had alarmingly low iron levels a year ago. Red meat (especially liver), red lentils, wholewheat products ( some cereal have added iron), spinach have some. Also important, do not combine your iron with dairy, as dairy inhibits the absorption mechanism for the iron to get absorbed in the body. BUT combining iron with vitamin C works together - c-vitamin helps iron to get absorbed!!! So eg juice/fruit together with the iron supplement/food.😊
Hey, ahh sorry to hear it, the tiredness that comes with it at random parts of the day is crazy. Thankyou so much for these ideas, I will definitely increase the amount of them that I eat! Ahhh thank you so much this is really useful to know as I do consumer dairy about 30mins after I have been having the liquid iron so maybe it’s just cancelling the iron out and I had no idea!! U know u arent in recovery
😂
Actually these thoughts after a Meal are not that normal, after I truly started to eating enough (gaining weight from food doesn‘t nessecarly mean it‘s enough, probably u need more🤷🏻♀️), the thoughts around the next meal decreased immensly, actually, sometimes I don‘t want to see more food for a few hours🙈

I think that’s the predicament I’m currently in where it’s back and forth in my mind thinking I’ve gained weight so I’m doing enough but maybe I’m not 🤔 Thankyou so much for sharing, sending all my best wishes 🫶🏻
