I’ve just been gifted one of these. Do you have any idea how to adjust the bottom bobbin tension? Do I need to take the bobbin case all the way out?

Just found one of these on the ground at our local recycling center. It's missing the power cord/foot pedal rheostat. I'll get one and see if the thing works!

What if some idiot threw away the broken off piece? Would it work if I could find a round piece about the same circumference as the original? Or does it need the metal part at the top? I haven't used my sewing machine but like once, many yrs ago, so I can't remember.
