You need to have parking assist equipped. Then go to settings -> driver assistance -> parking and maneuvering -> active PDC and there you can turn on and off the braking intervention on the side and rear independently

The missing radar will probably reduce the car detection range. It should stay the same for pedestrians and cyclists. As you can see from some of my other videos, the car will only warn and brake at literally the last possible second. If you feel like you are two seconds from hitting somebody (which you shouldnt be normally haha) you probably still have a little room to go, but then again you shouldn't test that out on the road I guess haha

@@robertmuller-uri7370 I feel stop and go low speed might confuse the car. Majority of pedestrian collisions happen in urban or parking areas where you have to stop, accelerate, deacclerate, stop, sometimes have to turn too, with lots of moving things for the KAFAS to detect. If you just press gas after stopping at red light and reach 10 kmh and a pedestrian walks right in front of you, I don’t think the car will auto brake or warn because it was too soon after car resumed from a stop. Also I wonder if the pedestrian system detects well at night. If you have such test that would be great, I know IIHS and NCAP has done tests and many cars have failed night time pedestrian test

Unfortunately not, because the car needs to be equipped with the sensors.

Almost true. As you can see, for example from euro ncap test, this system works up to approx. 60 kph. Braking for other vehicles works at even higher speeds.

@@bryanchen9706 Just coasting at 20km/h (12mph) and someone tries to either jump in from of the car, or just cross the street walking slowly, or running and crossing the street behind a stopped car (most of those cases are done by little children), and walking parallelly with a car and suddenly try to cross the street in front of it.

@@ahmed-aw how long were you driving at 12 mph before seeing the pedestrian? Maybe in my case I was testing in a parking lot, and I couldn’t drive up to 12 mph as there wasn’t enough space to accelerate to that speed safely. Did you start to press brake yourself or let car to react entirely? And do you also have ACC radar or just KAFAS camera?

That's Not really possible because you need the parking Assistant which uses more and different Sensors. So you'd also need new bumpers and a Brand new Software for your car

Maybe ask your local BMW Dealer If He knows a workaround

Well that depends on you car. A good idea is always to check you optional extras. Look what optional extras you car has. Depending on the brand it has a different name, but typically something like "driving assistant" "assistant package" or something similar. The newer your car, the better your chances. What car do you have? And when was it built?

@@GiselleLimaS2 then it depends on the equipped options. Ford has a "driver assistance pack". It probably offers some active safety features as standard, but the proper ones come if your car is equipped with the driver assistance pack. A good hint is always whether there is a camera behind the windscreen (where the rear view mirror is). That however is just a hint, not proof that your car is equipped with that. Second option, enter you car settings (either infotainment system settings, or settings via steering wheel) then go to driver assistance and see if there is something called "pre-collision assist" or something similar ;). Well it is perfectly reliable. It helps to avoid a collision in almost every situation and bmw explicitly advertises that it does not work in intersections. So it does exactly what bmw advertises and does that very well... The latest systems from bmw perform even better (new X1 and 2 series active tourer).

Well yeah, that active bonnet feature is very important though. When you actually hit a pedestrian it's like an airbag for them. That thing has saved so many lives over the years.

Well yes. It does react to cyclists and cars. It only applies the brakes on Higher Models Like 3 series and abobe though.

Sadly, the X1 is too old. The new X1 that was Just releases will have that Feature. The old one doesnt. Im sorry ;)

Well... Drivers Like you and me.. For us there is no Point. But Lets be honest, Look at the average old Lady trying to Reverse somewhere

@@robertmuller-uri7370 strange you mention this. I was already laughing at the fact that old people tend to reverse back exactly how they drove forward. It’s why the do a 20 point turn and still haven’t managed to turn around! I would like to assume this is not a function bmw where aiming for. Who really never wants to turn around? If you left your parking space sand drove past a bunch of other spaces before remembering your forgot milk or what ever, you’d just pull into another space. If the car park is that busy that the space you left is the only one, chances are it’s already been taken by someone else waiting for a space. Or your just going to p!ss every one else off by reversing round a car park! I just don’t get what this function is for. Are we now going to start seeing people driving to work forwards in the morning. And backwards going the wrong way down the wrong lane in the evening? It just seems like a 100% pointless function that has zero use!

The Car is equipped with both driving assistant and ACC with Stop & Go function. Both are optional Extras. Driving assistant is camera based. ACC is Radar based. Sure!

For camera-only, the braking function is available from 5 km/h to 85 km/h and the maximum speed reduction is approx. 50 km/h. For camera+radar, the braking function is available from 5 km/h to 250 km/h and the maximum speed reduction is approx. 60 km/h.

Sure! It only works when you are in reverse gear though, just so you know!

And you need to enable it in the settings under car -> driver assistance -> parking and maneuvering -> emergency brake rear -> emergency brake side

@@Amtm-1 no, when your are reversing at slow speed it does it when the System is detecting an accident

I'd probably go for the pixel 6 in one months.

The car will always brake when it's in reverse gear, even if the obstacle is at the front. When you drive forwards, the car will not brake.
