Enjoyable video! I want to go back there. I once almost got to Skiddaw Little Man summit & a heavy downpour with thunder started & I went back down as I had no waterproofs! That first section going up was really tough for me!
@@bilingualbackpacker I have fond memories of little man.. was the first hill above 500m I had ever done and it's one of the steepest.. I remember thinking at the time "there cant be many harder than this".. thanks for the feedback, tek care 🙂
@daveostlemountainman Do you still think it's one of the steepest after doing others? I always think I can't do the "big" ones lol
@bilingualbackpacker I've done quite alot of others but yea there hasnt been too many others that have the steep gradient of little man.. I always need a sit down half way up tha
Great video Dave! I’m planning on bagging these soon and was just wondering where you parked?
Cheers... just in a free layby near a church on the A592 as you head towards kirkstone pass.. I wouldnt advise copying this as I am fairly sure I went on private land after troutbeck tounge so best advice would be to head back to the main road after that and go up wansfell from the more conventional route... tek care :)
Thanks for a great watch . Going doing this tomorrow so thanks for the information 🙏
Look out for a feature called 'Millican Daltons Cave'.. I didnt know about it at the time but its on the path of this route, worth a look... Thanks, take care :)
Fair play for sticking it on RUclips Dave as many wouldn't have put It up. We've all had days like that going off course and doing many miles more than we set out to do. Mine was a 19-miler after convincing myself I was in the wrong valley! Keep the videos coming, enjoyable to watch.
Cheers, aye I think what I did was misjudge the length of Thirlmere.. I found out here its quite bloody long.. I think I always roughly knew where I was just the paths up that side seem to be very faint and easy to lose.. take care :)
Great video, really enjoyed it. Definitely one to add to the “to do list”. We look forward to seeing more of your adventures! Liked 👍🏼 and subscribed from a fellow RUclipsr 👌
Alright Dave, a couple of things reminded me of escapades I've had around that area. The first one was me and my mate ended up going down some cleft in the rocks with three dogs who were absolutly shitting themselves as well as yours truly to get down from Glaramara and the light was cutting in too. My mate still insists to this day that we went the right way but I'm having none of it. The other was when my sole came off my boot descending Grains Ghyll last year after doing Great End then the next week a sole came off my other pair of boots, not fun when you have 3+ miles back to the car. I like your vids as they aren't sugarcoated and you can feel your pain as your feet give way on loose rock. (I've been there). New Subscriber and watching all your vids from the beginning, Well done on completing all the Wainwrights including outliers, reckon I've got 99 to do.
Cheers lad, aye i was a bit stupid on here but learned a great deal from this walk.. ive never allowed to be put in such danger since.. i knew there was a path down glaramara but barely researched it and believe it or not i dont know what i was thinking but i did actually descend down the waterfall.. it looked like a path from the top and as i got deeper into it i found i didnt have the energy to go back up so continued down (i was glad to be out of the strong wind i think is where my mindset was at).. i possibly should have called mountain rescue in heinseight but couldnt bare the ridicule i anticipated so a few dangerous moved i managed to get to the bottom of the fall.. take care lad, thanks for watching :)
Great vid Marra and like your take on hill/mountain walking: Life’s about the journey, not the destination, cos there is only one ultimate destination for EVERYTHING! Says a confirmed hill-bagger and list-keeper! 😂
this is a very comfortable walk.. you get up to the first munro in no time and paths are very obvious.. descent might be difficult if there was more snow ont path but very nice.. highly recommend for ya scotland adventure.. along with 'the brothers ridge' just before you get to skye is quite easy..
Ey up Marra! I’m doing some research for a potential trip to Scotland next year and this mountain took my interest. Apparently it’s the “easiest” Munro on Skye and the one for the best views of the Cuillins. How you reckon Charlie would get on? I have seen other vids of dogs getting up there.
aye he shud be ok.. there is a particularly steep gully and a bit of scrambling just before the summit that i reckon he may need lifted up a little.. shud be ok coming down though and path easy to follow.. i didnt get the best of weather here so everything seemed harder than it needed to be i guess.. cheers lad :)
nice Video🎉🎉
No failure there pal. I'm like you, no expert but I keep it safe and sensible. Took me 3 times to get to the top of Skiddaw. I had a diabetic dog to carry in a rucksack. I'm not into wild camping but a really good channel is Bushman and Blue. Only thing is the guy is super fit unlike me 😆
aye its something im finding hard to get into.. i dont think ill ever just go and camp for the sake of it but as part of a multiday hike is something id like to incorporate into my skill set.. im jelous of those camping channels that go and do it as if its nothing and i guess the only way to beat it is to do it.. Cheers for the feedback, tek care :)
Back to the big uns. It was me and the Mrs first fell as well over 50 years ago and went up the same way.
its funny cos now am thinking 'i wonder what it was like 50 years ago'... then i realise it was probably the exact same as today but less tourists.. aye i need to regain my big mountain fitness, havent done many of them in the previous 6 months aye.. cheers lad, tek care :)
How did the glue hold the tashy on 😂
haha it took me 10 years to grow this, wind nearly had it like aye :D
I hope the tash will become permanent fixture on the channel haha. Having pretty much seen all your videos it’s quite nice to see you come full circle there.
yea i didnt intend to even go to skiddaw but after filming it did feel like the right decision to go back to my roots after finishing the outlying fells.. its a mountain that changed my life greatly.. thanks lad, tek care :)
I see you got your normal good weather and it's a right slog going up Skiddaw that way and to be honest, I did not even notice you had grown a moustache. Looked rough the higher you got and loved you optimism on seeing a cloud inversion, your intelligence letting you down on this one! I always put weight on on the run up to Christmas and these food reviews are not helping either. Cheers Alan
aye just my luck to be at work the best days, thats life eh.. was a decent wind strength, i think ive been in a little stronger than that before, i am curious to see where my endurance level for wind is at.. we will get an inversion one day, nee rush eh.. cheers Alan, tek care :)
My first high one when I started about 3 yr ago. Jenkin hill ,little man skiddaw.loved it xx
bout syam as me then aye.. i didnt even know mountains had paths up them until i did this one haha.. might have put me off forever if the weather was like this 4 years ago tho :/.. cheers, tek care :)
Love the tache. Thanks for the group shout out. Group walks are very much in our plans . Be great to go on one you led . Skiddaw means a lot to me as well it got me through some dark days in the Freeman Hospital.
aye i do want to organise more manageable walks but i want to test my limits first with these big regional walks.. if i cant do it then av learned and move on.. Cheers lad, tek care :)
@daveostlemountainman you can do it mate .
Nice hike Dave. Take care 😊
cheers lad :)
I love skiddaw, straight up the Jenkins hill path, I know it’s a slog but I love that route, I’ve been up skiddaw 3 times Bailed once at lesser man, had snow and clear skies the first time I made it to the summit and the most recent time carried my camping stuff to the summit and then bailed as the wind was about 900 mph lol Totally agree with what you said about the group mate, even though it’s grown so much it does feel like a great small community, Not sure on that moustache though mate 😂😂 all for a great cause You should go full beard mode !!! A great watch mate, shame no inversion but skiddaw has a mind of its own and does what it wants Speak soon pal Atb Alan
thinking about keeping the stash.. might make people remember me.. did an alright job for sum guy in germany in the 30's.. i would like to experience stronger winds, ive been in some 50mph before but just curious too see what more feels like eh.. cheers lad , tek care :)
😂😂😂 love the intro music mate
Loved the inversion countdown dave 😂 this is one ive never done and for some reason dreading it don't no why like 😂 and for sure you no me mate I share your enthusiasm on the big hikes you have planned so giz a txt and I will hike them with you don't no how fast like but I will give it my all not counting my chickens but I've never quit yet so let me no the dates marra and see you back on the fells very soon eh class mate
i think it would be harder to fail if part of a group cos the banter just takes ya mind off all the distance required and i can plan most of those big hikes to end with a pub after day 1.. a lot of people camp overnight in underskiddaw car park, was one there this morning with his tent box up.. like i said before its about 200m up ya start so makes life easier.. cheers lad, tek care :)
Hi buddy thanks for sharing can I ask wear to go to get amazing views in the snow
cheers, the coledale horseshoe is hard to beat in the snow... paths very comfortable and you can vary the walk many different ways depending on ya walking pace... tek care :)
@daveostlemountainman thanks for the info 👍 much appreciated
Evening Marra, firstly you didn’t need to grow a tash to look a prat! 🤣 Secondly, looking forward to the Howgills, totally new area for me too. 👍 Thirdly, cracking inversion mate, one of the best I’ve ever seen. 🤣 I’m out to do a Silver How and a three Birkett round from the NDG on Wednesday assuming the nice forecast stays the same. All the best Marra. 😀⛰🥾
Hahahahaha
cheers for all the words of encouragement dave.. this walk was your fault as you didnt confirm you wernt coming quick enough so the weather gods planned for you.. my next day off is tuesday and looking at weather it looks like snow from 12am to about 8am tue morning so i might have a walk up helvellyn int snow. tek care :)
@@daveostlemountainman 🤣🤣
A great memory of your favourite hills haha
Nice video Dave. Thank you for sharing.
@@NorwayHikesTrails thank you pal
Loved the video, Dave. The guard of honour with the poles was a nice ( and well deserved ) touch. If you get the chance try Black Combe again when its a clear day. The view is really good. Same for Muncaster Fell when you get the chance. Look forward to more videos. Cheers. Tek care.
@@greatgable am gonna wait for some decent snow to do black combe again.. muncaster was just soo boggy I think it put me off for life.. thanks for watching the series, I appreciate it, tek care 🙂
Brilliant dave love this one and the last one of the wainwright's you done class what a class memory to have pal and was great to have joined you on a few but its not the end plenty more coming eh so get some new boots 😂😂😂 topper pal
cheers lad, aye thought i might aswell wait for black friday sales for the new boots so am still skidding down grassy banks till then haha.. thanks pal, tek care :)
Superb video of your Outlying fells. Your videos were superb and I find them so useful.
thank you, hopefully they can help a few people decide if its worth doing them or not.. on to the next projects, tek care :)
Absolutely superb Marra. Some great memories there…..even Ulthwaite Rigg. 🤣🤣 It was a pleasure to share some of them with you. 🤝⛰🥾
i think me and dave are gonna go back to ulthwaite rigg for 1 reason only.. we think there will be more deer antlers lying about.. cheers dave, tek care :)
@ 🤣🤣 When you do, give us a shout Marra.
Nice round up Dave. Waiting for the next set you do.
Cheers, having a bit of trouble deciding what to do, eventually the howgills but not till next year now.. tekc are :)
What a great video of Striding Edge! Great walk overall but a tough one.
aye i dont think ill be doing this whole round again.. especially after all the ascent you lose going down to grisedale tarn.. good fun tho, cheers :)
Congratulations Dave. What an amazing achievement, and to do it in the time you have done them, both Wainwrights and Outlying Fells, is simply incredible! Great video as always and hope to meet up soon for a hike. Matt
cheers lad, aye am always up for a hike with folk.. think i enjoy it as much as being solo so ill do my best to be available.. tek care :)

@ashleyjarnold I do like route one routes.. up and down.. thought about a 'lungbuster' series.. steepest most direct routes
Congrats Dave 🍾 A good gathering for the finale! Shame about the clag but Im sure your used to it after spending so much time on the fells over the last couple of years. Well done
cheers lad, aye it would of been nice a clear day but good banter to make up for it.. really comfortable walk which is what i wanted to finish.. bit of freedom again now aye, tek care :)
Well done Dave . I've enjoyed this series almost inspired me to do the outliers ...almost . Maybe after R2 . And I'm also doing the Howgills next year may see you out there.
i cant find any good websites that list all the 41 hills of the howgills on a map.. think ill have to go out and actually buy a map this time!.. cheers for the support lad, i appreciate it, tek care :)
@daveostlemountainman I thought there was only 26 😂😂😂
Congrats Marra. Good to see you embracing “Birkett Bashing”!
makes sense.. after doin the wainwrights theres about 170 odd remaining so be rude not too grab em

aye i want to do that route u did previously off the train, am into Birkett mode now.. weather was crap yesterday but good excuse to go back.. nice easy outlying walk.. thanks lad, tek care :)

@daveostlemountainman lol no mate it was class I sometimes like a cooler walk and to be fair it wasn't really that cold maybe just a little coming from south top of black combe but overall a cracking day marra
Congratulations on completing the 116 Outlying fells. Have really enjoyed everyone of your videos and they will serve as a good reference for the ones i have not done. Also a great achievement on completing all 330 fells to. Black Coombe looks a nice walk, shame about the clag but nowt you can do about the weather! Look forward to seeing your next adventure. Cheers.
aye the clag didnt damped it to be fair.. i enjoy these group walks because everyone just has loads of banter so makes up for the clag and rain.. its one to definitely revisit, a good dumping of snow as its a comfortable path.. tek care, thanks for watching the series :)
Well done Dave on your great achievement and lovely to see some familiar faces celebrating your final outlying Wainwright 😊🥾
cheers lad, cudnt really care about the poor weather as was with great company and good banter.. cheers for the support, tek care :)
Nice to see you got a good turn out and if it had not been the Goth Festival yesterday, I would have been there as well. Good grief if it was 72 miles for you, god knows what it would have been for me, so maybe it was good the Goth Festival was on. Never mind the Berkett, I would have gone for the easy option as well too and walking poles are a must. Oh even more supporters joking you as well and how the hell you manged to keep your feet is a complete mystery but shame that mist came down, just have been the Clag Misters fault. One thing for sure, you have some amazing memories to look back on and see you on the Howgills, cheers Alan
aye i would have felt massively guilty getting ya to come all this way for a claggy walk.. (weather forecast said clear skies too) im sure ya would have added to the great banter tho and would have been nice to see ya.. Just watching ya goth festival video now, some great costumes, i enjoy those days out.. thanks for the ongoing support Alan, all the best, tek care lad :)
A splendid video full of great memories. We’ve had a great adventure. Thank you for your company Dave and capturing it all with the videos. Thank you to all those who joined us for the final summit of Black Combe.

Nice video Dave. Thank you for sharing 😊
Thank you my friend, tek care :)
Well done lad on completing them, many of them a pain to get to from our neck of the woods. Black Combe one of the few outlying hills I've done. It's a grand fell but maybe better in decent weather, like owt else. Looking at the retrospective you had some really great weather for many of them. Looking forward to the next set.
