    20 miles each day with a camping backpack, I admire your optimism! The only problem with that bench is it is too nice with such an awesome view, so I always spend far to long there and on the even better one you missed (on camera anyhow). Yes I did the first 4 of yours with another RUclipsr but we did it the other way around, which I preferred, no good for your route you had planned mind. Been there before planning a route on OS Maps, does not look too bad until you are actually walking the route but well done for what you did and having the good sense to call it when you knew your were feeling the pain, yep good sense not a failure at all. Cheers Alan

      its a route i really want to do so just because 'im sure its possible'.. might need 3 days instead of 2 but ill be back to try it again.. i need a few more wild camps under my belt first tho to get used to the isolation.. yea dodd is my local fell.. v.busy on weekends but a lovely walk.. thanks for watching Alan, tek care lad :)

    Back to the big stuff eh Dave. That's a hell of a walk with a heavy pack especially in that wind which can take it out of you. Well done. It's an achievement not a failure.

    Definetly not a failure. Great video and really enjoyed it. Always wondered what path was like from Carlside to Skiddaw and from Skiddaw down to Bakestall. Look forward to your next video.

    • @daveostlemountainman
      @daveostlemountainman  4 месяца назад

      yea i knew bakestall was going to be tough, its a longer way down than it looks on paper and the fact i had to reascend most of that just sapped my moral.. great fells tho, thanks for watching :)

    No failure there pal. I'm like you, no expert but I keep it safe and sensible. Took me 3 times to get to the top of Skiddaw. I had a diabetic dog to carry in a rucksack. I'm not into wild camping but a really good channel is Bushman and Blue. Only thing is the guy is super fit unlike me 😆

    • @daveostlemountainman
      @daveostlemountainman  Месяц назад +1

      aye its something im finding hard to get into.. i dont think ill ever just go and camp for the sake of it but as part of a multiday hike is something id like to incorporate into my skill set.. im jelous of those camping channels that go and do it as if its nothing and i guess the only way to beat it is to do it.. Cheers for the feedback, tek care :)

    Failure you say? Most people would be welll happy doing half of that! The skiddaw group is a big open and vast mountain massif, so that's nothing to be unhappy about! The only lesson that maybe you should learn from this is something that you already pointed out in the video, which is that on a map, it looks so much easier, and everything is closer! But as usual, a very good and well put together video. Keep it up! Love watching them.

    • @daveostlemountainman
      @daveostlemountainman  4 месяца назад +2

      absolutely this.. its dead easy to click little lines on a map on the computer and think aye that'll be fine.. when you get there and see the vast distance with your eyes it can be overwhelming but we will try again one day.. thank you :)

  • @CribGoch39

    That’s no failure Dave, that’s a big hike that. My suggestion would be to do the wild camp first and then hike the next day. Go after teatime to somewhere manageable like Hard Knott or High Rigg and then get up early the next day and do a days walking (ideally you’d change heavy rucksack to a day pack). Enjoy watching your channel. All the best

    A great video Dave.I love the Longside Edge mate and you had some great views! Last time I did it, it was really hazy! I did Skiddaw last week from Under Skiddaw car park and managed to tick another 3 off…..152 to go 😂. Still yet to do Bakestall! Cheers for a good video mate ⛰️🥾

      Bakestall is best from the other side up the whitewater dash path i went down on here.. the waterfall is nice but the landmark of 'dead crags' just before you turn off up bakestall look incredible, make you feel very small..

    Hiya Dave your no failure pal not easy them ones it's really hard to keep your fell fitness up happens with me to Dave don't think I could camp on my own to bet you nearly finished the outlying ones I finished the Wainwrights last week ended on lingmell bloody steep lol 🤣 then last Saturday I did the 3 Yorkshire peaks peny Ghent whernside and ingelbrough it's a cracking walk from Horton in Ribblesdale took me 10hrs 26 miles Dave if you fancy doing that with me sometime let me know would do it again really like it not easy like but is good for outlying fells doubt I could do them don't drive Dave ive done 3 irton pike and blackcombe and Whitecombe anyway hope you're well Jordan from Wigan keep up the good work mate

      @@daveostlemountainmanyeah it's all sign posted all the way round Dave paths are pretty good to gravel good morjority bit of road walking to if you fancy doing it I will meet you at Horton in Ribblesdale when you're not busy if you want going Cornwall middle of September so if you fancy doing it let us know Dave

    Brilliant you did that Dave.
    You didn't bottle posting it which is good.
    We did the route to Skiddaw from ullock pike, longside then Carlside then onto skiddaw. It may have been better to get down to Dodd from carlside? You'll know better than me but it seems a lot more incline on your route?
    Keep up the great videos though and thanks Dave.

    • @daveostlemountainman
      @daveostlemountainman  4 месяца назад +1

      yea that route makes sense but the most efficient way to walk all 24 northern fells would be to start with dodd first the do an out and back to ulllock pike before skiddaw.. its just a route i came up with one evening, i dont think its one ive ever seen done before but we will try again after ive got a bit fitter.. thanks :)
