Harmen is one of a kind guy. I'm software engineer and every day I put one of his videos on one screen and enjoying it while working. I can't count how many times I watched your videos, it never bothers me to play it again. So basically I watched multiple times each video and I will continue with that. I'm so thankful to you because the way you presenting it to us it's just unique and nobody is even close to you(Only Craig Adams I can put in the same basket with you). Others? Nobody is even close to you my guy I repeat that again. Thank you sir and God bless you!
@@steffyincan They are indeed! They're adorable and not very afraid of humans, but they're also the most mischievous little bastards you can imagine lol well know for tearing rubber and wipers off cars, stealing food from in front of you, posing for photos while their friends tear your belongings apart and, most famously, they were responsible for dragging road cones to block a road every day after workers moved them to the side. I'm 53 years old and have spent my most of my life giving everything to my family with no regrets. For the last year or so I've found hiking and starting recording my adventures on youtube for a bit of history for my children and grandchildren. Your channel had inspired me to remember the most important bits. They don't need words. You are an artist and I'm inspired!
Thank you for sharing your story and for the kind words. It's truly heartwarming to hear how hiking has brought you joy and how you're creating a beautiful legacy for your family. Keep capturing those precious moments; they're invaluable.
Dear Harmen, I'm Richard from Germany. You made a gigantic good movie about your track on the South Island of New Zealand. Your superb pictures, editing and music fit so sensitively to the theatricality of this landscape. You have honestly reproduced the relationship, human nature: the little man in an overpowering nature. I've enjoyed every moment of your movie. And I remembered when I hiked the Routeburn Track myself in 1988. Maybe, who knows, one day I will come to New Zealand again to feel this wild untamed landscape. Thank you very, very much for this film.
The curious bird trying to poke your camera lens was so hilarious!! My mind feels peaceful while watching your movies and I feel very good that you overcome lots of difficult routes and return safe! Be careful out there! Always enjoy your beautiful movies!!!
Your video brought me to tears, tears of happiness but tears nonetheless. I lived in the South Island over 20 years ago and hiked/hunted all over that terrain, I miss it more than anyone could imagine. The silence and the cinematography are utterly stunning. Beautiful work Harmen. Please keep it up. Wishing you health and happiness. Richard
This is one of your best videos so far! Absolutely fantastic work! Music selection, audio recording, drone footage, composition of your camera, and overall atmosphere of the scenes is just amazing. Masterpiece!!!
Wow, thank you! The audio for this one was an interesting one. On the morning on day (the 6:57 shot to be precise) a Kea bird bit through my mic cable.. haha. I had to do internal audio recording (which sound horrible when windy) and did over 100 external recordings with the mic connected via usbc to my phone. Lot of work in post, but glad I was able to salvage it (;
This is the most highest effort hiking video I've ever seen. The quality, the sounds, the cinematography are absolutely gorgeous. Really glad I found this video!
I’m a New Zealander and also an outdoor lover. I’ve been so busy with life & work and almost forgot the beauty of this incredible land. Thanks for your amazing video it reminds me to grab my gears and get out to embrace the nature. Many many thanks
I would say about 75% of people that live in NZ have no idea of the beauty that lies just outside the city! I live within an hours drive of three national parks and I am often staggered to learn how little people know about what lies just on their doorstep. I could show you caves, waterfalls, swimming spots, mountains, lakes and rivers that equal the beauty of anything anywhere in the world and nobody even goes there! I once hiked for eight days, on trail, without seeing another person! I can see that section of mountains from where I sit now!
Soon as I got the notification for your upload I knew I needed to set aside an hour before bed asap just to be able to revel in your experience in complete peace. I'm backpacking New Zealand next year myself, and this has got me so incredibly excited beyond words. Nothing comes close to the beauty of God's creation.
I really felt the experience in this one. The cuts on your legs, the bugs, the wind, the cold. I felt the human side of this one more than just the nature.
Apart from repeating that all Harmen's videos are stunning movies, with beautiful cinematography and editing skills, what can I say? This time we get to see Harmen as adventurous as ever, and with a humorous twist: the hilarious Kea Birds 🤣🤣 New Zealand really is my dream country. What a pity it's so far away... Keep on making us dream with your wonderful videos and thank you Harmen!
Thank you so much for your kind words! Those feathering Kea birds were a delight for sure in the miserable weather. And yes, New Zealand is not easy to get to, hope you get a chance to visit some day, though! All t he best!
Those juvenile Kea are so curious and spend their excess energy wrecking your gear. Windscreen wipers seem to be their favourite. Don’t feed them though.
Not everyone gets to live this kind of life.. Enjoy my friend.. For you are living the dream that millions can only dream of dreaming.. Cheers from India.. 🤘🏻
You have inspired me to create videos from Himalayas. I am a small content creator from Everest region. I have watched all of your videos. Much love and namaste 🙏🇳🇵
Harmen, my man. Not too much goodies for us mere mortals. The John Muir Trail Video was such an epic piece of art. I keep watching it over and over again. Or just enjoy the audio world of it while doing something else.
Another fantastic Harmen Hoek film. Until I saw this I never realized that New Zealand was so beautiful with majestic mountains, lush tropical style forests, abundant waterfalls & lakes & peaceful sheep. Would love to be able to travel there but the next best thing is to watch what you have experienced & documented. Great trip, Harmen. ❤👍🏻🙋🏼♀️🇺🇸
Thank you for your kind words. New Zealand is definitely diverse, and I've only seen 1% of it ... So much more to see there! Hope you get a chance to visit some day! All the best!
Apart from the wonderful cinematography, the thing I love about this film are all the simple and very beautifully told stories that unfold. A drama made up of a series of scenes about encounters; the sheep mustering along a mountain gravel road, the Kea's descending on camp and creating a little mischief, the skin shredding scramble through native bush and tussock, wet feet/ wet socks, retreating because suddenly the ideal camping area turned to absolute custard, and desperately wanting to eat dinner whilst also being dinner for the sandflies. Many Kiwis will relate to these stories, they are part of our psyche. Well done for showing them so cleverly. No matter the story, it's how you tell it that matters.
Thank you Harmen for an amazing video yet again! I enjoyed this one! I loved the views, those waterfalls, the greenery, the fairytale trees... I never thought New Zealand would be that beautiful. Regardless of the weather being so windy, I still appreciate the beauty of it. Thanks for bringing it to us! :)
Thank you Nicole, glad you liked this one too. (: The weather was a little challenging at times, but I love the shots because of it. Thanks for your support!
Absolutely a hiker’s paradise. New Zealand is my dreamed place to go to. I’m 56 and I really hope that I will go someday. Thank you for taking us along. Breathtaking video once more. Love and be safe!😘🤗🌼🇻🇪
I'm an IT-related guy from China. Every day, I really feel bored with my life, trying to figure out what kind of life can make me happy. While I see your video, the way you film is absolutely a demo for me. In west China, very close to my city, there is a similar landscape. I will try to make some videos similar to yours.🙂
What a treat! The cuts on your leg make me realize the amount of hard work you must have gone through to capture these amazing shots! Hats off to you, Sir!
I'm 22 years old and I cry over every frame. It's something unreal and heartwarming, I don't know how to explain it. But I just sink into calmness and immense gratitude for being a part of this beautiful world. Thank you for your work, for those moments when you find and frame a scene, go to the goal and come back for the camera! I've never had this experience, and I haven't hiked yet, but I'm sure it will become at the very least exactly my experience, and at the very most one of my favorite processes in life. And I can't express all my gratitude to you in words..
The shot at 7:05... holy moly. May literally be the best shot I've ever seen on a RUclips video. Harmen has somehow outdone himself again. The whole video is amazing.
I’m simply in awe of the Southern Alps and how well you captured them on video. I’m impressed with of all the extra walking that’s involved to get the camera in the right places to capture your journey. Bravo!
Mate I could watch your footage for HOURS! It's beautifully captured. As a long time tramper/hiker born in NZ it evokes strong memories. More than anything it's that the focus is where you are not who you are; the landscapes you are passing through, the wildlife, the movement of light, water, changing typograhy. I'm not strongly against narrative for these types of videos but I have to say your approach is delightfully refreshing. How you captured some of the amazing footage I can only guess but "bravo!" my man. Your eye as a videographer(?) is well on point and renders the poignancy of where you are in the moment amazingly. Absolutely stunning!!
Another wonderful presentation. Needed to watch this after looking at the ‘news’. So good to witness the glory of God in all its perfect silent magnificence as an antidote to all the rubbish happening in other parts of the world. Thank you Harmon and God bless.
I live here in NZ and I would have to say this is one of the best put together short films of our back country out there that I've seen, footage and editing perfect true credit to ya well done .
The sense of scale you're able to convey is one of the best parts of your work, I know it must be cumbersome to have to walk back to retrieve your camera equipment so often, but it is a pleasure to watch, thank you!
Thank you for the compliment and I'm glad you notice. It's hard sometimes to capture a place, especially of this scale. Often the best thing to do is just go wide angle and walk hundreds of meters away to put the landscape in perspective. I love those shots.
What magnificence. Majestic views. Stoic silent man. Wide open spaces. The place of dreams. Being an old codger and getting ready for a hip replacement, after years in African mountains, this stuff is deeply connecting. We need more Harmens. Silent calm strong people who do the doing and let nature talk for itself
Glad you liked it! Might be my favorite shot of this film. When I saw it, I couldn't resist walking all the way over there through wet grass to get that shot. So worth it!
Your video is the healing meditation for me! Thank you so much! Every little activities you’re doing in the video makes me so humbled and astonished…! - even you wrung out the wet socks and put them back on. I don’t what to say… I really appreciate all your work, the effort… it’s not just hiking.. to me it is a life pilgrimage. A bit desolate, but… also sacred… 😌 Thank you!
@@HarmenHoek - absolutely brilliant. You got the full weather spectrum of NZ and I acknowledge the hard yakka on getting those wide shots. Thank you for such a great showcase of some our South Island beauty.

Harmen, you’ve visited my home country and met our Kea birds !!🤣 I was just describing your cinematic exploits to a friend on a trail this week and here you are in our country Aotearoa New Zealand! Hope you enjoyed 😀
Another beautiful work of art. Love everything about this one, but in particular, the one 1-second shots of all the waterfalls matching the instrumental's beats: absolutely marvelous.
You've inspired me to go film backpacking this year. The first video I watched was a year ago in Yosemite. I never had an interest until then, but these videos brought out something new in me. My backpacking setup is nearing completion and I should be able to use it for the first time soon. I've been video editing since I was like 10 but there's just something beautiful about this style of video.
Harmen it would take pages to tell you how superlative this film is. I have just watched it twice it's so enjoyable! The cliff with the roiling clouds and you walking along the edge of the world are the ultimate (7.04). Great choice of route and story telling. I noticed you have trained your camera to pan, well done! I don't think a camera team with a million dollars can improve on what you did by yourself, magic my friend.
Thank you for your kind words, Eddy! I'm glad that you found the film so enjoyable and captivating. That moment on the cliff with the roiling clouds was truly mesmerizing for sure. Thanks for you support!
you make absolutely awesome films! The various terrains you cover, including the local fauna and flora, the long shots and the close ones ... but sincerely appreciate the ambience of your vids ... thank you so much!
Hey harmen. I wanna say thanks for the video, it was highly inspiring and beatiful. Additionaly I wanna say how greatful for you. The videos you work ao hard on help a lot of people to find peace with themselves, and just calm the mind with the pure nature. Be blessed dear harmen and wish you to continue with this amazing hikes
One of the very few videos out there which actually brings justice to beauty of this area in NZ. Great effort with the camera and thank you for documenting this for us. Such an inspiring piece of work!
I have travelled around 30 countries on my own (not hiking like this rather usual tourist travelling). There is an unique feeling/ sensation of solo travelling that is very difficult to express in words. You are the only person I have come across on youtube who could express that feeling through an art form (i.e. videos). Your videos go beyond just amazing landscapes or video frames in terms of providing an inner message. Thank you.
Thank you so much 🥰from Georgia too! I watch almost every night before sleep ... nature sounds, nice music, amazing landscapes... you give us opportunity to see and hear all this beauty ... so thankful for this! also very inspiring for me ... as I love and often hike here in Georgia ... wish you many, many interesting and nice journey ☺
Harmen, this has to be your best ever film! Stunning natural beauty, so skillfully captured, inspired editing, wonderful sound and subdued yet utterly appropriate background music. Best of all, you seem to have left your drone at home this time! Many, many thanks,
Nice selection of tracks, I've done most of them except that little trip though what I assume was Lennox Pass. Did you go all the way up to Lake Wilson from the Routeburn? Those peaks are not very good camping spots indeed ;)
Thank you very much for this cinematographic masterpiece, Harmen 😍 I've had the great pleasure to watch all of your so far 21 hiking videos in the YT. Each of them is a visual gem, result of certainly a lot of planning, walking back and forth for the camera, sweating and getting tired. And the results as your videos are wonderful! Thank you for sharing your adventures 💕
I go hiking every other weekend in Appalachia, and it is my #1 hobby. Your videos scratch my “hiking itch” when I’m not able to hit the trail. Easily the best hiking content creator doing it right now. The birds at your campsite had to be such a fun experience. They would have kept me entertained for hours.
Absolutely fantastic video!!! Loved it. My sister worked with a couple of lab workers from University of Utrecht that invited her to help with their lab in New Zealand many years ago. She has since retired. So I emailed this video to her to remember her time there. Thank you.

I just discovered you on RUclips, not sure how but I’m happy about that. Unbelievable videos and I just love the fact that it’s quiet -only with a little bit of nice music. I can see what’s out there and vicariously experience a lot of places through your videos! I’m so happy to see that there’s so much beautiful unspoiled earth still left.
This is the most beautiful hike video I have EVER had the pleasure of watching. My friend sent me your Blue Mountains hike this morning but THIS… this is just spectacular! Thank you for sharing. Absolutely love your work. ❤

I don’t what to say… I really appreciate all your work, the effort… it’s not just hiking.. to me it is a life pilgrimage. A bit desolate, but… also sacred… 😌 Thank you!
Home turf - I'm giving this a thumbs up before the vid even dops as I know the shot quality, sound and story will be epic!
Thanks! Hope you like it!
@@HarmenHoek - absolutely brilliant. You got the full weather spectrum of NZ and I acknowledge the hard yakka on getting those wide shots. Thank you for such a great showcase of some our South Island beauty.

The filming of the little birds is amazing!
I live near this region. Thank you for showcasing my country in such a beautiful way.
Thank you very much for upload all this beautiful masterpiece of filmmaking, sound, cut, scenery, landscape, everything 🥇🏆. What a blessing for all that didn't have the money, time, or are disabled to travel. ❤
Glad you liked it!
What a gift this video is. The artistry, the scenery and the audio is outstanding. Thank you so much for sharing your adventures with us. I'm home bound with an illness right now and the video brightened my day. Thank you.
Thank you for the compliments!
And get better soon!
I am just in awe at your photography. Every composition is prefect. The rainbows....... the hilarious birds........ the breathtaking hikes over shale and step terrain. Thanks again for taking us along on your epic journeys. You're AMAZING!
Thank you so much! (:
I am obsessed with your videos. Every time I watch your masterpiece, it makes me realize how beautiful my Earth is, how lucky we are to live on this amazing planet. The way you share the breathtaking beauties of earth is no parallel to any other; the cinematography is unparalleled. Thank you for sharing your amazing journey with us and reminding us how lucky we are. Thank you
All created by God. However, we are His greatest creation. Time to give Him the honour, praise, and thanks, for His providence, and grace.
This is so relaxing, I want to do this in my home country. 🇵🇭
Best youtuber bro! Im actually going to yosemite this weekend and your videos get me so excited!
I'm Tom from Japan. Thank you very, very much for this film
Just incredible! This is my second one and I’ve never watched anything like this. God has truly blessed you.
Harmen, you’ve visited my home country and met our Kea birds !!🤣
I was just describing your cinematic exploits to a friend on a trail this week and here you are in our country Aotearoa New Zealand! Hope you enjoyed 😀
Absolutely loved my time in Aotearoa New Zealand! Meeting the Kea birds was a highlight for sure. (:
The shot with you walking past the ferns in the golden light was amazing.
Another beautiful work of art. Love everything about this one, but in particular, the one 1-second shots of all the waterfalls matching the instrumental's beats: absolutely marvelous.
Thank you so much 😀 There were so many waterfalls around me, and I wanted to do them justice in some way. Glad you noticed, thanks!
What a beautiful country, absolutely breathtaking scenery.😮
Another awesome video! Thanks again Harmen for sharing your journeys with us!
Thanks! Glad you liked it.
Amazing! Top notch cinematography, deserving of an award.
How cool is that! Hope you get to enjoy it as much as I do!
Just found this video. Just thank you. Its stunning and you let the wonderful environment speak for itself.
와 어떻게 이렇게 아름다운 영상을 완벽하게 담아 낼수 있나요? 마음이 힐링이 됩니다. 정말 감사합니다. 대단하십니다
7:06 what a beautiful fog and sunlight. The scenery looks so amazing with it
Harmen it would take pages to tell you how superlative this film is.

YOU DESERVE TO HAVE MORE SUBS, FILMING ALONE IS SO HARD AND CHALLENGING..
Such a Wonderful Journey you took us with! Thank you Harmen🙂
The melodious melody captivates the listener with the melodious melody of the music. Great landscape! Thanks for sharing!
5:31 the bird😂 I love him❤
One of the very few videos out there which actually brings justice to beauty of this area in NZ. Great effort with the camera and thank you for documenting this for us. Such an inspiring piece of work!
You are a magician in capturing magical moments !🌞🍀
Thanks! (:
I have travelled around 30 countries on my own (not hiking like this rather usual tourist travelling). There is an unique feeling/ sensation of solo travelling that is very difficult to express in words. You are the only person I have come across on youtube who could express that feeling through an art form (i.e. videos). Your videos go beyond just amazing landscapes or video frames in terms of providing an inner message.
Thank you.
Thank you so much for your kind words. Solo traveling is indeed something special. Makes me take in the moment a lot more.
Hello my friend. Cant wait to sip lots of coffee watching this.
Hi Joe! Thank you for the comment! Hope you like this one and hope we can meet again this summer!
@@HarmenHoek 🙏🙏

Enjoy the great work. HH is the most hardcore hiker guy I’ve ever seen. Nuclear power😂
Haha, appreciated (:
4:45 THESE BIRDS ARE ADORABLE !
Wow New Zealand so beautiful❤❤❤
Yes it is! Hope you enjoy this one!
Yes i enjoy now This video
Harmen, this has to be your best ever film! Stunning natural beauty, so skillfully captured, inspired editing, wonderful sound and subdued yet utterly appropriate background music. Best of all, you seem to have left your drone at home this time! Many, many thanks,
Glad you enjoyed it!
Isle of Skye weather at the start! Glad it cleared up for you. Fantastic video! Those curious birds :)
Glad you enjoyed it! Weather was a little challenging indeed at the start, but it does give some stunning shots.
Nice selection of tracks, I've done most of them except that little trip though what I assume was Lennox Pass. Did you go all the way up to Lake Wilson from the Routeburn? Those peaks are not very good camping spots indeed ;)
Yes, I went all the way up. If it wasn't so windy, it would have been beautiful for camping!
I’m glad that i found this precious video ❤
I love God so much
It's really beautiful and wonderful. I always enjoy it. Thank you. :)
My pleasure!
Why do I get so emotional form this.
As beautiful as it can be. Thank you for the peace brought upon my soul.
I’ve never wanted to go to a place as badly as the trails in this video..absolutely beautiful. Thanks for bringing us along.
That is awesome! Hope you can get out there soon again!
Those birds definitely made up for the horrible weather, so much fun!
Absolutely fantastic video!!! Loved it. My sister worked with a couple of lab workers from University of Utrecht that invited her to help with their lab in New Zealand many years ago. She has since retired. So I emailed this video to her to remember her time there. Thank you.
That is awesome! Glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic trip and well captured. Great to see my country looking so beautiful!
Much appreciated!
Once again you've done it; stunningly beautiful, incredible photography, you convey as closely as a person can what it's like to be there, thank you!
Thank you so much 😀
thank you for sharing- you remind us that the world is beautiful, solitude is necesary, and peace is so desperately needed. I thank God that I stumbled on your channel. God bless and keep you safe in all your travels!
Harmen is my favorite hiker on this globe.
Thank you (:
Yet another belter of a hike, and the background music made it that much more majestic and wholesome. Thanks.
This is the most beautiful hike video I have EVER had the pleasure of watching. My friend sent me your Blue Mountains hike this morning but THIS… this is just spectacular! Thank you for sharing. Absolutely love your work. ❤
Your videos are an absolute joy to watch! Perfectly mesmerizing music to go along with your beautiful experiences. I don't see anyone's cinematography that compares to yours. May you always be safe on your wonderful treks across this World!!!!
Wow, thank you! (:
🙏You are my inspiration and the reason I found the courage to start my own youtube channel with my adventures. Thank you so much, Harmen, another gem!
