Greek Cheese Review: Tasting Tinos' Petroma Cheese by Mantalena

    I am Swiss, coming from the "land of chocolate" and I remember when we visited Greece like 30 years ago when I was a very young kid. And I still remember the chocolate drink. It was the best I ever tasted, I drank at least two a day for weeks and I have missed it ever since. Whenever I buy a new chocolate drink, to this day, when I open it my first thought is: will it finally be similar like the one from Greece? Back then it was in a transparent plastic bottle that had some "ripple pattern" in the middle I think and the cap was just a golden aluminium foil, that you could rip off or just punch a straw through. They sold it absolutely everywhere, even in like small beach-bars at the sea. Absolutely the best ever! Glad to hear that it still tastes the same, my wife and I might go to Greece this year for a short vacation ... I know the first thing I will buy 😅

Best salad i ever tasted and im dreaming of it! Ive tried to recreate it (accept i dont like green peppers. I use red or orange) but without those tomatoes and oil its not the same.. I have to go back!

    Many thanks for making this incredibly detailed video explaining all about the delectable Greek Salad 🙏 I stumbled upon it while searching for a Greek Salad recipe. I just got back from a trip to Greece where I became an instant fan of the Greek Salad and had at least one everyday, and I'm super glad to learn that a behaviour I developed that I thought it was inappropriate - soaking pieces of bread until the last drop of sauce (I'm mediterranean after all), it was actually the proper way to do it! 😃 Anyways, I brought home some Greek salad mix (herbs) to reproduce the Greek delicacy and started looking for recipes. Yet the vast majority of them mentioned "vinegar"... and I'm pretty sure that I never tasted vinegar in the +10 Greek salads I had. I followed your recipe and tips closely, and it turned out to be quite authentic. I agree with you about the tomatoes, they make all the diference in the salad, and if I need to improve something next time it would be to add more olive oil.

I was in Greece only once..years ago 🫣.. but I remembered that delicious flavor and few ingredients far from those fake Greek salads made by fancy chefs. My only concern now is to find good tomatoes. Thank you! Greetings from Mexico. Ps. someone who to Greece ate a salad with watermelon, is that traditional? Is it with feta cheese as well?

      @Greekosophy Месяц назад

      Greetings to Mexico! Thank you so much for your comments. Glad you found our video helpful. In Greece we eat watermelon on its own, usually instead of dessert after a meal, not as a salad (Greeks like to eat fruit after a meal). many Greeks also eat feta with watermelon because they like the combination of salty and sweet.

    • @Greekosophy
      @Greekosophy 2 месяца назад

      Hi there. Yes, the best way is to slightly fry them in the pan with a tiny bit of olive oil (you mainly use the olive oil so they don't stick in the pan). They only need a minute or so of frying, as you only need to get the fat to warm up and get tender :)

      Hi there. A few years ago you could find it sold in specialist Greek online shops. But due to its short use-by date and the issues with importing products to the UK after Brexit, it is difficult to stock it. All the stockists we searched online show it Out Of Stock at the moment. But if you keep on searching for it on Google from time to time you might get lucky :)

If you follow our Feta review series we have struggles to find a good Feta cheese in UK supermarkets, as they put cost and profit above quality of ingredients and traditional methods of cheese making.

      Hello there! Sometimes we find that people hate cucumbers (or even tomatoes) because the only cucumbers they have tried are the ones sold in the big supermarkets, which are full of water, and they are completely tasteless. If you find your way to Greece (or any part of the south of Europe) you should defnitely try some of the cucumbers locally produced and I am sure you will love them!! Anyway, if you really hate them then you can make a Greek salad with all the other ingredients, keep some for you and add cucumbers to the rest of it for your guests :)

      Let us know how it went! With olives, you need to make sure they are good quality, unpitted olives and, ideally, not the kind you get in big chain supermarkets. Pitted olives are not tasty at all as they use chemicals to keep them in shape and the taste just goes away. The best way to shop for good olives is to visit a specialist shop that imports food from various countries and that sells olives in bulk, so you can try some different varieties and pick the ones you like :)

      Not sure if you've noticed, but there is a STOP button in all videos where if you don't like what you watch you can stop the video and watch something else :)
