OHhhhhhhhhh I remember you mentioning The Vivian Diaries before.... it's one I'm very interested in. Right now I'm trying to tackle 1 Q 8 4 by Haruki Murakami... just over 100 pages in there seems to be 2 completely different stories so I'm curious if they blend together and how. I'm really enjoying it so far. Thanks for the video clips, looks like it would be a fun show to be atm
I think you would like The Vivian Poems. She seems fascinating. You are brave 1Q84 was on my TBR when it was first published. Then I became too intimidated. 😊💙
@@BookwormAdventureGirl I wouldn't be intimidated by 1 Q 84, it's an easy read so far and though it seems like a slow story it's moving along quickly
@ Good to know. Thanks.
Last part of my research mercy novel is story of European farmer , his purchased wife , his growing household of indentured or enslaved, white Native American , African character. New York Times list book review list of ten best books of 2008 chosen by editor. In 2010 merry was chosen for one book , one Chicago program. In 2024 was ranked 47 in New York Times list of best 100 books of 21 th century. In novel mercy florens became one of handful of survivors of smallpox plague, that destroyed her tribe . Vaark wife Rebekka describes leaving England on ship for new world to be married to man she had never seen.death of their subsequent children are devastating. Vaark accepts young florens from debtor in hopes that new editon to farm will alleviate. Rebekk loneliness Vaark himself orphan , poorhouse survivor . Describes his journey from New York to Maryland , Virginia commenting on role of religion in culture of different colonies. Along with their attitudes toward slavery . When smallpox threatens rebekka life , florens new 17 , is sent to find black freedman who had some knowledge of herbal medicine. Her journey is dangerous, providing to be turning point in her life . Author Toni Morrison examines roots of racism , religious practices of that time , relationships between men and women. In early America Ended In female victimization and for people who never shape world , world shapes us . Iam so sorry to be little long but reading and writing both are great ways to improve our English as non native speakers. Merry Christmas happy new year. Best wishes for you your dearest ones .
Thank you for your wonderful cultural literary channel mrs Jolene. I didn’t send comments to you from long time. Iam Arabic lady subscriber to several British and American RUclips channels. I gathered main theme of book you mentioned and author biography briefly here it’s Toni Morrison ( 1931- 2019 ) she was American novelist, editor. Her first novel bluest eyes , was published in 1970 . Critically acclaimed Song of Solomon brought her national attention , and won national book critics circle award. In 1988 she won Pulitzer Prize for beloved. She was awarded Nobel prize in literature. She won too presidential medal for freedom, national humanities medal . Mercy plot summary set during 17 th century. Florens is young enslaved girl . She is sold away from her mother to live in New England with Jacob vaaric, inheritor of farm , his wife rebbekk, their servant.
Toni Morrison is one of the all time greatest writers. Thanks for watching. 😊💙

🦑 I immediately read the Travelling Cat Chronicles and LOVED it, thank you

Started reading again. Just finished a 10-day vigil at my mother's bedside. As she passed I was reading "Held" and a paragraph touched me on page 61 Anne Michaels wrote "There are so many ways the dead show us they are with us. Sometimes they stay deliberately absent, in order to prove themselves by returning. Sometimes they stay close and then leave in order to prove they were with us. Sometimes they bring a stag to a graveyard, a cardinal to a fence, a song on the wireless as soon as you turn it on. Sometimes they bring a snowfall." At my father's burial the sky suddenly filled with lightly falling snow the size of rose petals. I thought, how did Anne Michaels know?
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing this. It always amazes me when writers can capture grief and presence in such an incredible way. Sending love to you and your family. 💙💙
Thank you@@BookwormAdventureGirl

There's an excellent documentary on RUclips about Vivian Maier.
Yes. There’s a lot about her. 😊💙

Monkey Beach was so interesting because coming back to it after the Trickster series, it was seeing where she started out, but not quite as good. I felt like the movie version made a little more sense of the ending, though you didn't get as much of the secondary characters except for her uncle. The Circle was my fave of the trilogy, but I agree that it would make zero sense of as a stand alone. No one else seems to have liked it as much as I did, though :( Her new book, real ones, is still about the same family, but does fully stand alone. Behind You ended up being my best read in September, I think. Though I was also reading a bunch of WWII YA books that were fun, the Worrals series by W.E Johns.
I have yet to watch Monkey Beach but will have to check it out. Too bad about the secondary characters. I like them. Interesting that The Circle was your favourite. I didn’t know Real Ones was about them too. I really want to read it. Behind You is a book I have thought a lot about since reading it. 😊💙
Loved reading The Cure for Drowning. Great characters and story.
I’m looking forward to reading it. 😊💙
Great video Jolene ☺ So many interesting books!
Thanks Beki. 😊💙
Hello - a year late and a dollar short, but I just found your video. Many thanks for the mention, and I loved listening to your choices ❤
My pleasure. Happy to have you watch and comment anytime. 😊💙
I loved The Cure For Drowning... Loghan Paylor was at our library and so charming. I think Still As Bright is one I'd love. I am a sucker for looking up at the moon
You are the one who put drowning on my list. The moon is cool! 😊💙
I have 6 of these in my possession, TBR. Sounds like they need to be bumped up TBR in 2025!
I hope they’re all good ones. 😊💙
The Searcher was much better than The Hunter.
Ah good to know. 😊💙
Oops! Orbital won the Booker, not James.
Yes I know. I made a mistake. 😊💙
🌍💙
💙💙
The books I highly recommend Clear ( especially on audio.) James . Unfortunately didn’t win the Booker but did win the National book award.
Ahhh thanks for that correction. I knew that but sometimes I say the wrong thing. Thanks for the audio tip. 😊💙
I tried and tried to understand and used the captions ...What is "died by maid or made" ?? Thanks
Same question. I didn’t understand the phrase maid/mate and it’s link to dying.
Good question. MAiD. Medical Assistance in Dying. 😊💙
@BookwormAdventureGirl and what does that mean? Assisted Suicide?
I read Headshot and enjoyed it. It puts you in the mind of each of the young female boxers during their matches. I'm currently reading The God of the Woods.
Headshot intrigues me. I hope you’re enjoying The God of the Woods. 😊💙
Really interesting books here. I really loved Clear by Carys Davies
Awesome. I think it sounds so interesting. 😊💙
Of all of these, I am most looking forward to Songs of the Brokenhearted because I gave Tsabari’s short story collection Best Place on Earth 5 stars. I have already read quite a few on this list. My favourites are: James; Curiosities; Prairie Edge; and Sing Like Fish.
Not surprised you’ve read several. Will prioritize some of those. 😊💙
As usual, I've read thirty books that came out this year, and zero of them are on that list, though I've heard of several of them! Which puts me ahead of other years. Actually, no, I did read Cure for Drowning, which wasn't my cuppa. I do love Book Lists, though. So great.
Book lists are the best! I haven’t read a lot of newly published books so not surprising that I’ve only read one too. 😊💙
This list is a fantastic resource!
Agreed and there’s so much more to share. 😊💙
I love seeing your smile !!! For Non-Fiction November I am finally getting to a poetry book by a local to me author. The book is called "The Shattered Remains Of A Mind Grenade" I'm really looking forward to curling up with this one & a big mug of tea. Please send some of your snow my way.... it's is strange to have NO snow yet at all... not even one tiny token flake...
Thanks! 😊 I hope you enjoy the poetry. Keep me posted. I can’t believe you don’t have any snow. Enjoy it while you can. 😊💙
Fire Weather is going on my TBR right now! I just read Run Towards the Danger and really enjoyed it. I didn't know who she was before starting the book but it was still worth picking up!
I hope you enjoy Fireweather. Agreed that you don’t have to know Sarah Polley in order to appreciate what she has to say. 😊💙
I love Margaret Atwood. She's on of my favorite authors. I love the way she she centers women in her stories and she doesn't shy away from portraying women as villains.
You make a good point. She doesn't always have women seen in the positive light. A lot of her characters (male and female) are flawed. Thanks for watching. 💙😊

I have read so many Canadian books this year, on accident, especially audiobooks! Should I do a segregated CanLit video??
Absolutely! I would love to watch that.
Yes pleeeeeeaaase! Would love that! 😊💙

I'm in a reading slump. Our Jasper house was destroyed by the wild fire and I have read nothing since then..... Your lists will help me get back into reading. Thank you
It’s been a difficult time. I can only imagine. Taking a break from reading is not necessarily a bad thing. 😊💙
I loved reading do not say we have nothing.
So many people speak very highly of it. 😊💙
Still on the hold list for The Knowing, but we'll see when I actually get it. I did read Something, Not Nothing by Sarah Leavitt which is a graphic art novel about grief and healing. Really beautiful.
I have yet to read Sarah Leavitt but have seen the graphic novel. Glad you enjoyed it. 😊💙
