This 1998 MTD Lawn Tractor gets "The Works!"
Yard Machines Lawn Tractor by MTD 15.5hp 42" deck
I bought this tractor for $20! It ended up having a lot of issues but the biggest problem was the drive belts. I made the mistake of replacing the worn Variable Drive belts with aftermarket belts, and the aftermarket belts did not work properly. I had to spring for the OEM belts from Partstree.com and they worked perfectly. From the refurbished mowing deck, fixed safety switches, un-seized starter, new carb, and new variable drive belts, this old MTD tractor got "The Works!"

    You had that carb off there and you didnt take the jets out and clean them? That pilot jet was probably clogged and why it was surging. I havent finished watching the whole video yet but you could have saved a chunk of money by easily fixing that..

    Great spot. Looks perfect for good times & great memories. Sixty acres of lotsa fun; sweet. Congratulations! Awesome investment; how fortunate to share this with your dad, brother & like-minded buds. I personally like the trees sprinkled here & there breaking up & framing your Lake view. It'll change seasonally & leaves (OMG! You I see you have tons of leaves. Lol!) room for imagination, looks natural, simple & beautiful, as-is. If it were me, I'd wait a full year before you decide which trees you want to thin-out to better enhance your water view. Way to go & super neat to share in a video. I enjoyed watching. And, what a relief that nasty stick is in your quad's gas tank & not you; trips to ER, or worse... Yikes! Stay safe.

    I appreciate you mentioning that you are good w/ prospective buyers asking, "Is this still available". As a buyer I don't ask that, because so many seller's are pissy about that. And, believe it or not, I'm never surprised when, I get a reply that's, "Oh, yeah... it sold last week, oops! I guess forgot to remove my ad". It goes both ways. I think the folks that put their don't ask rule are simply wanting to be controlling jerks & are probably lazy, too.

    Hey Kyle, if you're looking for the draw, use your multimeter on the fuses to find one with a voltage drop. I bet it's the entertainment unit that won't go to sleep.. If not, your alternator may NOT be charging. It may be able to put the voltage out, but not the current Get your alternator load tested from an auto parts store (they usually test it for free) and see. Could be that you need a new alternator. :)

    • @Kylebythecreek
      @Kylebythecreek 13 часов назад

      Good to know. I've never tested voltage drop at the fuse. But I could give it a try!

    • @demcomp
      @demcomp 12 часов назад

      Give it a whirl. Usually you have to shut your vehicle off for a good 30 minutes for all systems to go to sleep, then you start checking fuses.. Check out "Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics" if you get a chance, Ivan is an absolute genius when it comes to electrical gremlins! Highly recommended checking it out.. getting a tech to do it can get $$$ Then when you find the thing that won't go to sleep, you can go from there. Good luck bud!

    Nice job fixing this machine. I have a suggestion for you though. Instead of painting the plastic, did you ever think about using cerakote trim restorer. It is sold at Walmart for around $17 and it will make your plastic look like new and it repels water. It comes with several wipes so you could do around 5 or 6 mowers with one pack. I use this on my 2000 Tacoma plastic and it looks brand new.

    28:09 If they served any purpose other than stopping dieseling (run on) after shut down you wouldn't be cleaning that carb. Where as if there were an inline valve that carb would be spotless. All these modern carbs can be a full jet richer across the board. Lower altitude and large displacement engines two jet sizes. Then nobody has to worry about dieseling on shut down because the combustion chamber is not hot enough.

    You should never use the inner race to get the outer race pressed In. Use a socket the right dimension for the outer race. Your Damaging the bearings if you pound on them too much like that. Sorry- I don't mean to be such a critic, but you need to know these things. Another Thing I would like to let you know is. You can remove the rubber seal on one side with a pointy utility knife blade and pop the cover out, because those bearings don't come with much grease in them, if you want them to last a lot longer. Add more grease, pop the cover back in Before you, install them.

    Do the carb clean once more then check the governed idle springs for adjustment . Put a flat washer on the block then weld a nut to the broken stud , let cool a couple minutes and it should come out . Sometimes you need to try more than once . I just did a head bolt like that last week . I discourage the use of Easy Outs , when you insert them it forces the stud to expand and tighten in the hole also you need even pressure with a T handle . That's why you no longer have the small Easy Outs . Those can only be drilled with a carbide drill bit or cutter or back to the weld a nut on method .

    Hello there, I am a new subscriber, I just gotmy first zero turn Gravely 2350 for free. It was just the frame and deck when it was given to me by a friend, I have since been hard at work putting it together using cub cadet parts wiring harness/engine/belts/pulleys/front wheels & tires, all from the cub donor. Now it's running and mowing just fine but still not quite right yet, I have noticed something quite interesting and you won't believe it, the left side transmission losses all power when engaged the deck but regained power when I disengaged the deck, I have it solved soon and I'll be watching your videos during my breaks. You have a good one , God Bless.
