My Story of Queen Bees
Hey all,
What a whirlwind in the Apiary. Starting on May 31st, I pulled some Queens that were failing, and also found a few colonies without Queens. I was able to get new Queens installed after introducing them and making sure that the colonies were 100% without a Queen. I am really hoping that this move will shift these colonies towards the right direction and give them time to build up.
We will see.

Transforming Beekeeping Failures into Triumphs 🐝 🍯

Hey all, This video covers a wide range of emotions. I traveled to the Apiary, hoping to find Honey. I found some, not a lot, but some. I did find another laying worker, so that is just unreal. After a break, I was able to get 6 Queens and get them installed. I had a few Queens that were not performing, so they are now gone. I hope this fixes some of the issues and the Apiary can now move forwa...

    I just bought a big load of new bee equipment., I'm in NE OHIO, wondering if u want to buy any , (complete hives) it's 2 deeps, a medium, screen bottom w insert, inner cover, telescoping cover, frames & foundation for all 3 boxes, a hive tool & smoker, plastic front feeder, & plastic excluder.. ALL of what i mentioned unassembled for $110... looks equivalent to like a bee castle or vevor .. I have about 40 to 50 of them to part with lol

    It's been the year of Queen problems for me too Brian, completely replaced all my Queens with 2024 Queens and I lost about 50% of my production hives due to old queens. Now I'm on a 2-year queen replacement cycle.

    Note that an emergence cell and a queen made with a worker egg are inferior queens that need to be replaced every year for peak production. A queen lays a superior egg in a swarm cell to replace her and the egg is larger than a worker egg A superior queen has been know to live for 9 years but that is rare now! Soon we will all bee force into that job security situation! Best of luck!

    I bought 2 mediums off Amazon. They were $39 for a 10 frame medium with frames. They had a $10 off coupon for one of them, so I took the chance and ordered them. I can't buy 10 frames/foundation for $39 so I had nothing to lose. Very happy with my purchase. The boxes were a little difficult to hammer together because they had so much wax on them. I started them and then took them apart and cleared the wax out of the way before I continued so that I didn't split the wood. After a little effort they went together nicely. I don't know if I really like the window, but I plan to use them and find out.

    That worker brood comb made into drone sized cells is such a waste of comb. Had a hive do that with a drone laying queen (unmated or poorly mated) so no indication of multiple eggs in cells and no idea it was happening until it was capped off. Had to melt down three medium boxes of freshly drawn comb as a result. Could have possibly used those frames for honey supers but then I'd have to forever more keep track of them and that would be tedious. Hope those new queens turn things around.

    • @CastleHives
      @CastleHives 10 дней назад

      They are actually packing in nectar, so i'm letting them go at it. For the brood frames, i'll end up melting them down. I think a dozen folks said the comb will be ruined. Appreciate you watching and you and me both. I checked them yesterday and they were all introduced.

    Brian, I have step backed the supers in the past, just make sure that you close the supers up when the nectar flow stops or you will get rob out. As far as the laying worker hive I have found that the best way to fix the problem is just shake the bees out in the grass away from the other hives and take parent hive away off the stand.

    • @CastleHives
      @CastleHives 10 дней назад

      Yeah, I'll keep an eye on the flow and close the stacks. The laying worker, I'm going to let them ride this flow then they're getting the Ole shake out. Thanks Charlie.

  • @BrianCooper901

    Looks like you are on your way now! We do a lot of newspaper combines with our resource hive nucs to get them queen right if we have an issue. The following weekend all the frames with her brood and eggs she had been laying in the nuc gets put in the big hive and the nuc box pulled off and supers put back on so there is no delay in bees hatching out. I thought I saw you still had some resource hives back there, it is sometimes tough to pull them but that's what they are there for. You still may consider pulling some frames from those resource hives of capped brood and boosting those hives with the new queens. The season isn't over yet! Thanks for sharing Brian
