  • Hey all,
    This season in NE Ohio is starting out insanely early. I've had a colony swarm, and now to prevent the others form doing the same, I'm splitting some colonies. This is just how I split colonies, and I'm no expert. The timing involved is critical. If you wait to long, the colonies involved might have already swarmed. And again, this is just how I do my splits.

    Is that an Alpha Hive queen catcher? I tried some of the yellow ones, but the spaces were too big and the queens slipped out. I recently got an aqua colored Alpha hive brand, and I’m hoping it works better.

    • @CastleHives

    Why some people stack boxes and some people prefer single box?

    • @CastleHives
      @CastleHives  Месяц назад

      Personal preference. 2 deep boxes used as a brood chamber equal 20 frames that need checked while a single brood equals 10. As far as treatments, the cost is less since you are treating 1 brood box. Less lifting of deeps also, so it saves your back. But, again, it is personal preference. With single brood, you do have to get into them more often.
