    When you decide to take a different management route with bees, one that is a stark difference, growing pains are to be expected. Nothing wrong with that Brian. And being a RUclips Creator myself, I know it really is difficult to post the tough days. But I know you and I show the good and the bad, and that's what folks truly appreciate. And I actually believe you're just a bit early. I think you'll see a blast at the last minute. And the thing about the rain and the nectar, don't believe everything you hear. I asked a botanist about that one time since all the old timers said rain kills the privet flow because it washes away the nectar. Well, all rain really does is limit flying time and overcast days cause the nectaries in the flowers to slow. But when the rain washes away the nectar that one day it rains, the nectaries are right back to producing once the clouds clear. Now wind blowing them to pieces, that's a different story. I see a good harvest in your future. Take care my friend!!

      Thanks, Mike. I hope I end up with a decent harvest. I should have expected some bumps while transitioning to singles. I made a move this week that will turn some things around, hopefully. Appreciate you watching. .

    Unfortunately that's beekeeping Brian, make some splits, careful your large colonies don't swarm , still have several weeks of good flow in your area I bet! , key to singles is letting them fill out 2 deeps ,then shaking them all into bottom box (get queen down there)with only empty drawn comb and 1 frame of open brood. Every thing else above the excluder( good time to make a nuc) add supers on top.
    frame of open brood

    Brian. I'm in SC and our main flow is tulip poplar. We had so much rain over a 2 week period, the flow was washed away and ended the 2nd week of May. Tulip poplar honey is dark and what I am extracting is very clear. The end of what was to be a promising year. Last year, a late freeze and this year torrential rain. But that's beekeeping. Keep moving forward.

    Been bringing in some Honey but not like they should.
    Too much rain and too often. I could get hung in Texas for saying this, but I wish it would stop raining.

      I wish it would stop raining also. Well, maybe rain once a week to keep things going. This April and May have been nuts, twice our normal precipitation. Thanks for watching and Congrats on the wins last night. .

    My mom won the queen right dial the other night, so a Ne ohio person got it lol , THANK U for donating that ! My strong colonies are capping atleast 1 deep box of honey in the Medina /Akron area this past week or 2, my splits don't have much nectar at all though so I gonna have to feed them today, we've had some major rain up here too!

    In the same boat in se pa. 16 days of rain beginning of May. lost the black locust flow then it got blazing hot and shortened the tulip poplar flow to less than a week. Clover blooming early but no bees on it. My bees are barely drawing frames out. Hoping for a good basswood and milkweed and summer flowers flow to salvage it

    Rain seems to be the issue for many beekeeps in the northeast. My black locust flow was a complete wash (literally the blossoms washed away with the rain). My bees still have the month of June, but I'm crossing my fingers to even get a few supers of honey and use my new Hillco extractor just purchased. I'm already thinking to myself, "next year is going to be good"!

    We have been in a drought in central US the last two years. This year is making up for lost time for sure. LOL Here in MN we have been wet and cooler than the last two years but our flow will go on for another 8 weeks so hopefully the rain will slow down a bit. Your flow lasts what, another four weeks?? Our honey locust is just starting to bloom and the basswood is a couple weeks away. Sorry about that laying worker. If I am doubtful on a hive being queenless I throw a frame of eggs in to keep laying workers at bay. If they need a queen they draw a cell and if a virgin is walking around they won't.

    • @CastleHives
      @CastleHives  3 месяца назад

      We do have several weeks left, yeah. Hopefully the rain tapers off, we're near 6 inches now for may. Just unreal. That colony fooled me. It went 3-4 weeks with nothing, then I saw the eggs and larvae in this video, and the next video it is filled with drone brood. I have a fix for it, hopefully. Learn each year. . Thanks for watching Russell. .

    I've got to reposition my weather station. It's currently right at the edge of a tree. This is causing the rain to be shielded from the accumulator. I've only recorded 2.3" of rain this month.

    • @CastleHives
      @CastleHives  3 месяца назад

      Mine is in the middle of the yard, so it is not shielded from anything. I hope June is better.

    Would it be possible to put a tarp/ tent over the hives during heavy rain?

    • @CastleHives
      @CastleHives  Месяц назад

      @JoJo-fm4tk you could, but the rain doesn't really affect the Hive body, so to say. Preventing them from foraging and preventing.queen mating flights is the issue.
