Thinning Peach Trees
My peach trees have so much fruit the branches are in danger of breaking.
In this video, I will explain my thoughts on thinning some of the peaches to protect the tree and my late spring/early summer peach harvest.

How To Grow Bluebonnets
Просмотров 903Месяц назад
This video explains the process for growing bluebonnets at home. Here in central Texas we face many challenges, but nothing grows as easily as the native Bluebonnet. These beautiful flowers take a year or two to grow, but it is well worth the wait. If you want to grow your own personal bluebonnet meadow, get started here. Recently I've done an interview about growing these wildflowers at home w...

French Drain 16 Months Post-Install Update: Drought and Clay Soil Fissures in Central Texas
Просмотров 6 тыс.7 месяцев назад
It has been 16 months since I installed my backyard French Drain. This was a really fun project to work on, and really helpful for our yard. Since the installation, the standing water in my backyard has disappeared and the misquotes have gone with it. Now that its been nearly a year and a half, I decided to make an update showing the post-drought season's impact on the French Drain. As the vide...

    Try a red haven peach. They are extremely hardy and one of the most sweet peaches on earth.

    I'm having a similar issue but mine is storm-winds. I almost want to make some Texas-size fruit-tree cages out of electrical-conduit. I was even thinking of trying out those clamp style spot-welder that are used to make tomato-cages, they also can weld cage-wire or metal-screen to thick-metal so quite creative possibilities. To keep the birds away you might be able to just play some hawk or eagle noises in the mornings & evenings, or you might need some rodent-hotels full of blood-thinning breakfast & dinner.

    if you close the outlet with a cap, water is captured in the pipe, no? i don't see no holes or gaps from that cap where water suppose to come out. What am i not seeing or missing?

    • @danielad1300
      @danielad1300 12 часов назад

      It's a pop-up cap. So the when the water fills up the pipe, the pressure of it pushes the cap up, thus letting the water out. It pops back down if there isn't enough pressure from the water, so you don't have to constantly worry about mosquitoes and the like

    • @AustinTexasGardening
      @AustinTexasGardening 4 дня назад

      That is not advisable, your drainage should drain away/downhill from your house

    My new Brown Turkey Fig tree wouldn`t start to grow until late July last year because it was so dry and hot in Louisiana. I had to put cardboard and thick layers of grass clippings in an 8 ft diameter circle around it, add more soil, fertilize and water it like crazy. I planted a cutting from it this year and four Celeste trees. I`ve added lots of grass clippings around them, bone meal, and organic fertilizer with soil microbes. Most are doing very well so far compared to last year. I didn`t dig large holes to plant them in the poor red soil so they can anchor themselves very well against high winds and I`ve heard this may make them produce fruit faster. We`ll get another hurricane soon enough and last year my corn was flattened in a bad storm in June. I saw a wild bunny and gave her a corn stalk and she nibbled on it for three days. She thought I was after her but realized I was trying to give away food and came back. Ha!

    You can have a load of dirt, mulch or stones dropped in your driveway. Your homeowners association won’t do anything about that, unless they are blue state fascists.

    The way you were just watering all the leaves?? DO NOT OVERHEAD WATER unless it’s very early in the morning or late afternoon so your plants don’t get soil borne diseases! Always try to water at soil level, especially in Texas!!

    Your trees are planted too low in the ground. They grow slower that way. Plant them higher and they'll grow faster and have fewer over watering issues

    Make some easy hoops with cheap painter's clear plastic and pvc over your raised bed. Your plants will be nice and warm all winter, sometimes too warm. And you don't have to really worry about taking it off or on. My winter garden was flourishing even in this year's Central Texas freeze.
