  • This is a short video on the results of my winter weather garden protection. A dry deep freeze is much more forgiving than the big winter storm we got in 2021; winter storm Elliott plunged us into several nights of lows in the teens and low twenties, but without any freezing rain or ice, the garden is mostly unharmed.
We're now looking forward to warmer rainy weather over the next few weeks. If you can make it past the few dry deep freezes we get during typical central Texas winters, you can keep your garden growing year round!
Thanks again for watching Austin Texas Gardening!

Make some easy hoops with cheap painter's clear plastic and pvc over your raised bed. Your plants will be nice and warm all winter, sometimes too warm. And you don't have to really worry about taking it off or on. My winter garden was flourishing even in this year's Central Texas freeze.

Great job with this! When do you think we will have some radishes?

The bag said around Dec 10, but I’m feeling like there won’t be mature ones until Jan 20

Thank you for this!!! My son and I are creating a garden for an unschooling project. We’re in New Braunfels. I’ve never does this before, but I foresee this being and issue. We get many mounds every time it rains. Would this work for a raised bed and any type of plant?

I’d recommend watching my video from November 2021 where I built the original raise bed, I think this is a great project for you and your son! Just make sure you remove about 2 inches of turf first like I did in my video, or you’re going to be dealing with grass invading your raised bed quickly
