Racing the 24 450FX for the first time in this 65 mile enduro. It was a hot day where many didn't finish the 6 total tests. I was in 6th place halfway through... battled back up to 3rd but fell short of the podium in the final test. I missed 3rd place by just under a minute. 4th place finish in my class and 43rd overall.

Test win and 4th! Looking good out there bro!
Awesome riding brother!! I am completely out of racing this season, only did the Croom Enduro, cane 3rd on that, but no more racing till next season, maybe Ill do a HS or two but that's it to. Again awesome video and riding 🤙🏽
Thanks man! Yeah, I haven’t seen you around in quite some time. Hopefully I’ll see you if you come out to one of the HS races. 👍
What trans gear are you mostly in ? Thanks
2nd and 3rd primarily.
11:00 you are passing me.
👍. You like the course this year?
If I work down there again, I’ll race your KTM 😁
Racing it in the enduro tomorrow. 👍
Course looked good, much better than the SORCS courses that are so thin there is no way to pass until you get to a field.
I have a kx450 I run a 52 rear sprocket and put a flywheel weight in it. It made a world of difference. I also have a g2 ergonomic throttle tube. Made it a lot more enjoyable especially in the tight woods.
Tires look like they are hooking up pretty good, what are you running?
I was running Dunlop AT81s back then.
Hello, i enjoy your vids! I was curious about the YZ450FX, when you first got it, coming off your 350, did the YZ feel more cramped in the cockpit? I have a 24 350XCF and i picked up a 24 YZ250X and it is so cramped compared to the KTMS lol. I was curious what your experience was, Thanks!
Thanks! The 24 450FX has the redesigned cockpit which they opened up so it doesn’t feel cramped. I do know what you’re talking about though. The last generation did feel a bit cramped in comparison to the KTMs.
@ awesome, I love my 350. I love to ride and do some cross country racing casually. A 450FX could be a possibility someday, if anyone is riding a big bore four stroke and it’s not Austrian it’s a YZ450FX
Yeah the 350 is a great bike! This 450FX impresses me the more time I spend on it.
How an earth did you get 200 out of these? my 23 husky only has 45hrs mx only from new same time I bought my boots and my 10s have fell to bits completely, hole on the side where my toe bends just above the astar logo which has peeled off, they let’s water in the first puddle, both soles worn right through into the boot itself, several snapped buckles, the inner bootie is fine I will add, definitely not valve for money, uk riding mostly wet I’ll also add, I dug out my old tcx2.1 from which are 5+ years 250 hrs plus old they are in much better condition, I’m trying SG22s next
@E63s_Scott. Weird. Your comment came in AS I was watching a boot review video since the boots in my video have finally failed me. I sent them back to A* for repair after this video was made and got another 20hours or so out of them before they failed again. Now it's not worth the $ to repair them again. Maybe it's the wet conditions? That sucks though. Way too expensive to fail that quickly in my opinion. I'm the opposite for riding conditions. I ride in mainly dry, sandy conditions and mainly woods riding. I'm also debating picking up a set of SG22 or maybe even the SG12s for my next boots as I've heard they last a really long time.
0:40secs, props to whoever was racing the CRF air hammer.
For sure! Air hammer. 🤣
Great race bud ! I had to stop and ask for a wrench on the first lap 11:20 mark My rear brake was completely loose But had blast on the final lap going back and forth with you
Good times!
@ try Steg Pegz they help you stay in position so that 450 beast doesn’t give that ejecto seato cuz effect Lol
Welcome back! Missed this one. Noticed they stopped your group at 3laps?
My class usually only gets 3 laps. Occasionally the top guys will get a 4th.
Weird. I’m in Vet C and we’re slower than you’ll and quite a few of them got 4 in. Just wondering. See you at the next one!
@JGuest777 Oh, that’s because you guys have to race a full 2-hrs until checkers. They give us old guys a break. 🤣
@@JRideRRjeez I need to look into that lol. I’m dead at 1.5. Lost 1st place last race because I didn’t have anything left the final 20mins. Cheers!
I had the 2019 450fx and put the first and second gears in from the 450F, made it way better in the tight single track. Just bought the 24 like yours and am thinking I need to do the same thing. Can't understand why Yamaha continues to use this gearing on the 450fx? I like the 3rd, 4th and 5th, but first and second just don't make sense for what the bike is intended for.
Nice vid dude
Great vid and great flow. I realize now who I was chasing for most of that lap. Awesome layout. See you next month.
Thanks! Yeah, it was a fun layout. I’ll look for you next month!
LOVE my KTM 300XC wondering if the new 25 yz 250fx would result in better lap times for me but I feel as if it's under powered after stepping off my 300, this maybe why I could be faster on the smaller though 🤷♂️. Maybe I just need a 350
I think your riding style would determine which bike is right for you. If you sit a lot and like to lug... the 300 is great. If you stand a lot and ride light on the bike, I feel like the FXs have enough grunt to loft the wheel when needed. My buddy who sits a lot wishes his 23 250FX had a little more grunt to get over obstacles at times. The 350 is just a sweet spot. Doesn't have the arm ripping tq of a 450 but revs like a 250 which makes the 350's power pretty perfect.
Considering buying this bike. I have a 2018 450fx, hands down best bike I’ve ever owned. 212 hrs on it and still runs like the day I bought it brand new. Really like these bikes. Changed the suspension for my weight and terrain, lowered my rear shock and 1” to help me touch the ground. No complaints. Only issues I’ve had is replacing the water pump seal twice that’s it. I’m going to give my bike to my son and buy a new one!
Longevity is the only unanswered question with the new platform. I'm over 30hrs so far. I'm pretty confident you'll love this bike. In my circle of riding buddies I've had 4 people buy this bike after riding mine.
I purchased the 24 250fx after you rode your friends bike. It has been fantastic. It is definently over sprung? Went with softer springs and it is much better. It looks like in the video that you may want to go in a click or two on rebound in the soft stuff. Hope to meet you at the next race. 🤙
Nice! I really like that bike. I went back to the base settings Factory Connection gave me and it feels much better. In my last video I also found that my compression clickers were different from each other. Not sure how that happened but definitely wasn't helping my case. For sure. If you see me come say hello!
Do you ever have any electrical problems or starting
I sold the bike at 90 hours. Only fouled one plug while I had it otherwise it was a solid bike for me.
Are you running a Rekluse in the video ?
Yes I am.
Whoa! Hope he is ok
I’m currently on a 2020 kx450 and racing a local XC series in Kentucky. I’ve got my eye on a 24 or 25 Ktm 350 or Ktm 250 Xc. Thoughts?
If you’re on a 450 now I’d definitely go 350. I hate to say that because I love 2-strokes but I feel like you’d likely do better on the 4-stroke. 🤙
@@JRideRR thanks! That’s where I’m leaning. I appreciate it!
Great info! Tnx
Awesome vid and commentary. I just did my first FTR race got 1st! Excited for the season. Where is the alligator race at I can’t seem to find it on the schedule?
Thanks! Congrats on the win! I’m still chasing my first HS win. Look under Ormond Beach. It’s 2/15-2/16.
Moore Kenneth Hall Kimberly Moore Brian
been riding the ttr 125 for 6 months is this a good upgrade?
Sorry I missed your comment. I would think this would be a great next bike if you want to try a 4-stroke.
I'm 190lbs and had to add stiffer springs and work the clickers to soften up the suspension. Sounds backwards but keeping the suspension in the right part of the stroke makes things work for me. I ride my yz450fx on mountain singletrack and deserts of Utah
Nope, makes perfect sense! That is the correct way to do it, and I’m sure it’s a good combo on that firm chassis.
300XC-W all day long
I bought a 2024 WR450F and the suspension is so stiff and deflects terrible. I am 175 to 180# ready to ride I set my sag at 98mm and have my compression clickers opened up 8 clicks from the factory setting still not any fun to ride, I also am running my bike at the #3 setting on the ECU. How is your FX suspension?
I'm surprised to hear the WR is stiff too. Yes, my FX was stiff and we're close in weight. I had my suspension done for my weight which has made it better but still not exactly where I want it to be yet. Open those clickers all the way up and see how it feels. The older chasis liked more sag. Factory Connection recommended for me to run 105-110mm sag. I will recheck my sag as it's been a few rides since I've checked it.
Offset bearing races for more rake. Check out Keefers Loretta review on his 450. Cant remember who makes um.
I’ve heard Keefer talk about them. FCP is the company. $600…
@@JRideRR ouch. Lol. But if it really does help calm the front end down a bit…. Confidence is everything
I’ll be asking around to see if anyone I know runs the races or different triples.
I know what I’d choose 💙
KTM is going broke, no brainer.
Comments below I said I would choose the Yamaha … and I still feel this way for the average rider .. but this is a cheat code build and was my plan for my Ktm 450…. Take the Ktm 450 and do the kyb spring conversion kit … get a custom ECU with different settings you can change on the fly…. And this bike would be great for someone racing or a more advanced rider …. But for the average squid 🦑 like me / yes the Yamaha is wider and a bit heavier but the frame is good and they turn so well.. especially with that infamous smooth throttle response from Yamaha where as KTM seems to have jerky power also Ktm 4 strokes almost always have electrical issues .. the Yamaha takes a beating and keeps going 😂… go with the Yamaha and you won’t regret it 😆⚰️🫡🇺🇸
Ive currently got an '18 husky fx350 and a '14 yz450f heavily considering selling both and buying one of these as whenever I'm on the 350 i miss the 450s power and on the 450 i get sick of kickstarting. But my question is it sounds like the traction control is built into whatever map you're running? I never use it on the husky and when i asked about it at the dealership while looking for a tc off button the idiot salesman told me they didn't have it at all.
Correct. TC is adjustable in whatever map you’re running. Off, TC low or TC high are your options. I wish you could turn it on/off on the bar but you cannot. It also has programmable launch control. You should probably buy one. 😜
Good looking bike
On the MX track, do you like the 350 or the 450 better? And why? Best regards. 🔥🔥🔥
How my bikes are setup I like the 450 better for MX. Suspension and ability to tune the bike for each track are the main reasons I'd pick the 450. Really tough choice as I feel more comfortable on the KTM most of the time and you really don't need more power than the 350 has. Difference of tenths of a second for laps times when I have timed myself. Basically splitting hairs at this point. When I ride MX and only bring 1 bike it's been the YZ.
@@JRideRR Thank you, I appreciate your response and your help. Best regards. I watch a lot of your videos.
Go fastway for the pegs! Made in Idaho I’ve ran them on my bike for the last 6 years have that 6 year old set on one of my bikes and they’re still kicking through a loooot of abuse (desert racing and Idaho single track)
I was on 4t ktms from 07-22 when i switched to a 23 yz250x. At the same time I bought my son a 23 125xc. He has since bought his own 23 yz250f. Between those two bike I don’t think I’ll be going back to a ktm any time soon. I do miss a 4t from time to time so I have been eyeing up a 450fx. Hopefully Yamaha makes a 350f by the time I’m ready to buy another bike.
We can only hope Yamaha will make a 350. Sadly I don’t think it will ever happen. I hope I’m wrong. 🤣
Never going to happen
Yamaha 100 percent. All day everyday
Any concerns with the transmissions on the YZ250F’s? Heard they weren’t terribly reliable. I miss NFMX!
I don’t have any experience with the new 250F. No one I ride with has one yet either.
I'd choose Yamaha all day
Yamaha all day every day
Personally, I would choose the Yamaha all day long. KTM is doing some amazing things with two strokes. The thing is there’s a lot of bugs that need to be worked out with sensors and computers. I am no good with that crap the Yamaha is also have the tuning app, but those are all right in the ECU paired with the CCU From your phone and that’s only for the four strokes I still choose Yamaha all day long
Idk In my opinion for me best out of Crf/yzf/kxf/sxf was the kxf. Yzf was way more argesive on the power then the kxf, On the crf It felt like the bike was really heavy and hard to take corners, sxf was good but really overrated. Yzf was the closes to the kxf but yzf was way harder to control the power and I felt betton on the kxf.
😂 if you had to pick one bike why would you not pick the all round bike
I guess I’m missing your point here. Both bikes can do it all. I’m not comparing a motocross bike to an enduro bike. They are both sold as cross country race bikes.
Ayyy Hilliard!
I was at this fork In the road .. I chose the yz450f, you can go on the tuner app and take power away// the Yamaha suspension is just wayyyyy better than Ktm
I agree the yamaha is a better bike, but the KTM has more aftermarket support.
@@lhurst9550 🫡
@@lhurst9550 and also i have a 2018 yz450f and a 2019 Ktm 450 …. And it’s not even close which bike I prefer to ride .. go on offer up (Temecula ca) and type in 2019 Ktm 450 and you will see my bike 😆⚰️ well untill it’s sold 😆
I’ll be honest… I said I would pick the 350 but I keep loading up that YZ lately… 🤣
@@JRideRR 😆 facts!!!
Awesome channel and vid. I had to choose between these two bikes! Got the 350 2023. But feels it’s a bit too twitchy and flames out a lot. Looking to get vortex ecu due to your previous video! Do you know of these transferable? Meaning not tied to just one bike once tuned?
Thanks! Hmm… twitchy I’m not sure. Maybe check your suspension settings. Clicker settings, air pressure, sag, etc. Yes, the ECU can be transferred and retuned for your new bike unless they totally change the ecu of course.
@@JRideRR by twitchy I meant like snappy throttle. When I want to just feather the throttle, it seems impossible. I’m coming from BMW s1000rr and that bike has a very smooth throttle and power delivery. This KTM felt like I’m on my old Yamaha MT10.
@@DJJUSAMO Ahh got ya. It will get better but it’s still that way with the Vortex. I kinda forgot about it until making this video going back to the pits. The on/off throttle just isn’t smooth. Yamaha does a much better job in this area.
