I'm 190lbs and had to add stiffer springs and work the clickers to soften up the suspension. Sounds backwards but keeping the suspension in the right part of the stroke makes things work for me. I ride my yz450fx on mountain singletrack and deserts of Utah

I agree with everything you said. I went on a 60 mile ride in KY over the weekend. Started out loving the suspension, bike goes very straight and is very controllable. However after about mile 20 I started feeling like it was beating me up. I am 185 without gear, mid level B-rider. My bike flamed out about 6000 times...wasn't even thinking about idle since I've been on a 2T for a long time. It wasn't stalling while in gear, it was stalling when I had the clutch in and blipping the throttle. Turns out it was set to around 1200 which is way lower than the recommended 1900, hopefully that will help. I fueled up at mile 49 with 1.7 gallons, which means I had about a half gallon to spare. I'd feel comfortable going 55 but not much more. I put on a Guts seat with their medium-soft foam, very comfortable, but the cover is very aggressive and uncomfortable after a while. I installed the fan as well and it ran a few times at bottlenecks. The bike was super hooked up with stock tires in mud and slick rocks, I was impressed. I appreciate the insight, I wanted something new and exciting to change up and this bike definitely does not disappoint!
Ive currently got an '18 husky fx350 and a '14 yz450f heavily considering selling both and buying one of these as whenever I'm on the 350 i miss the 450s power and on the 450 i get sick of kickstarting. But my question is it sounds like the traction control is built into whatever map you're running? I never use it on the husky and when i asked about it at the dealership while looking for a tc off button the idiot salesman told me they didn't have it at all.
Correct. TC is adjustable in whatever map you’re running. Off, TC low or TC high are your options. I wish you could turn it on/off on the bar but you cannot. It also has programmable launch control. You should probably buy one. 😜

Curious why didn’t you get the WR450f. It’s tamed and you can always uncork it and you will have the softer suspension. If your riding trails the WR is awesome.
Coming from the KTM side I just prefer the cross country models over the trail bikes. Most of the time the trail bikes are too soft where I can’t stiffen them up enough. The FX is also used for when I ride Moto.
I have a 24 Wr450, it’s super stiff. I’m 180 pounds and I have all setting near the softest and it’s still very stiff on sharp bumps and the seat is atrocious. I need a softer seat of some kind.

With that much time off the bike I'd initially say 350. Give yourself some time to get back into riding shape. If that 450 is really calling your name... detune it with the app, suspension may work out for your weight and get ready for some scary moments when you whiskey throttle it. It has already bit me a few times. Haha. Go sit on them and see which feels better to you. If you can't find an FX to sit on, just sit on the F and remember the FX has a slightly lower seat height. I believe it's 10mm lower. I can't personally speak to longevity of the YZ since it's so new. 60hrs on the KTM and so far so good.
Enjoyed your video. With respect, to the best of my understanding, suspension springs are based on the rider’s weight only. Not style or type of riding. The rest of the adjustment is all in the valving, oil height etc. to make it act how you want/need for your type of riding. Loved your wheelie shot. 🔥🔥
Correct. Did I misspeak in the video? The stock fork springs were too heavy for my weight and I had both the forks and shock revalved for my riding style down here in FL. Thanks on the wheelie comment!

Nice! I've heard of this issue but I make it a point to not spray any of my electronics on either bike. I just take a damp towel and wipe down the controls.
Did you watch my short that shows this mod? Hard to explain but the strap compresses at one end. You drill your hole that size. This is a popular question and with the tuner app I can make the first 1/4 throttle have a smoother power delivery than the 350, the YZ still has that 450 torque after 1/4 throttle. I can’t detune the TQ and you’ll never be able to change the difference in rotational mass in the engine. These are the two big differences between the 350 & 450 to me so far.

I’m currently on a YZ250X and ridden 2 strokes all my life but debating between the ktm 350f and one of the Offroad X models and the YZ450FX is near the top of my list. Mostly riding moto with a bit of Offroad. Which would you recommend or like better for mostly moto with some Offroad and single track mixed in?
Have had mine for about 10hrs also. This is my 3rd 450fx. My issues are the suspension is still stiff even at 220lbs. Which should get better over time. I agree the air box is terrible. Have a shop vac to suck anything out if you happen to drop anything in the intake while cleaning the air filter. Get the tusk air filters over the twin air they are better for this bike. The rubber strap that holds the air filter down is a bad design. If it breaks you are screwed. I made a little bracket that bolts right above the strap that holds it down. So if the strap breaks the bracket will catch it from coming loose. Everything else has been great with it.
Thanks for the feedback. How do you compare it to the last FX model? I switched to the Twin Air power flow kit. I do like that it’s a tighter seal AND the bottom of the filter won’t pop out. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I was playing around with filter fitment.
@@JRideRR the 24 model seems like it pulls harder in the upper rmp range but down low in the rpm feel the same. That's with the stock tune. The seat on the new one is harder but not to bad. To me the new corners alittle better but only after I set the sag and clicked the suspension around a bit. Other than that it's a good bike. I just need a little more time on it. My last one was a 19 model and it took me a little bit to get use to it. But after I did its probably been my favorite bike ever and I have owned about 10 over the last 20 years. I even bought a 22 gasgas ex450 because I couldn't find a new yz450fx at the time and actually liked the yz so much more I sold the gasgas and waited for the 24 yz to come out. I think you will like it just have to give it alittle time for suspension to settle.
Look at some Flow foot pegs. Thay have stainless,aluminum,titanium. I have a set of the stainless on my yz and really like them. Price is fair and fast free shipping.
Would this be a good bike if i wanted a do it all type of bike.. meaning i can go ride some tight trails one weekend and hit the track the next? I cant afford 2 bikes lol
It’s also a good bike if you ever wanted to make it a supermoto. Sure there’s the WR but I’m switching from a wr450 to one of these so I can do all 3 types of riding. Not too hard to put a legal kit on this bike either.
@@JRideRR never owned a 2 stroke and figured it was time so far I’m loving it just adjusting to having little to no engine braking coming down steep steep hills I carry a lot more speed. Still figuring out that sweet spot in the brakes to not lock them up and knife the front or skid the rear
If you are interested in an even lighter clutch pull with the hydraulic setup you now have. Check out Midwest mountain engineering, they make a sweet lever with an adjusted pivot point which gives you an even lighter pull. Had one one my beta for years and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I've tried the Midwest setup a couple of times on friend's bikes. I do like that setup. I always see it as a hard enduro setup but something to think about. 👍

Power is much more controllable( there’s more of it for sure but easier to control, if that makes sense) looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
Not so much of a light switch, no matter what I did with the power valance I couldn’t get it to take down, I like to ride low in the rpm range and this bike has a much more manageable torque curve.
@@danielgardner5822 Not yet. I’m going to try running the forks 2.5mm in the clamps. Right now I’m at 4mm. Factory Connection recommends 2.5-5mm. I went with 4mm as that’s where they were set from the factory.

Welcome! For mainly Moto with some single track mixed in I’d say the FX would be my pick. I really like the FX on the Moto track.

I did look at them but they specifically say it doesn’t fit on the 23+ 450. Did they change that?

Fastway footpegs with the ankle savers on them. They are great. You don’t even notice that the extensions are even there. A bit pricey though.
Don’t they get in the way for ankle mobility?
I have checked them out and yes, they are damn pricey. Looks like a good option. I would like to try them out before buying them.

Do you ever get head shake a faster speeds?
Yes. That was one of the first things I noticed the first ride out. I rode some Moto and the front end was pretty twitchy at speed.
