As a Kid This Game Almost Made Me Like Math (Treasure MathStorm)
Edutainment! Math was never fun for me, but as a kid I loved these math games for DOS and Windows 95. Treasure MathStorm was a game I played quite a bit, and while it seems pretty simple now it is still effective as an educational game. Pretty much all the Super Solvers games are still good fun at least for a few minutes, and what they teach is timeless. Chapters: 0:00 - Intro 0:27 - Early edut...
Microsoft Made A Sound Card for Excel in 1992. Is it Bad? (WSS)
Windows Sound System(WSS) was a standard created by Microsoft that didn't quite work out. I'm not sure if Microsoft made it intentionally unfun, but it is clear this card was aimed a businesses rather than home users. It can be used to add sound to spreadsheets in programs like Excel and Lotus 1-2-3, but it doesn't work for Sound Blaster sounds in DOOM or many other programs. Interesting priori...
Before Guitar Hero We Had This in 1995! - Quest For Fame
Guitar Hero was a massively popular rhythm game, but was it the first? Quest for Fame in an odd game that uses a strange printer port guitar pick(called the Vpick") that allows you to "play" classic rock songs and follow a weird adventure game narrative featuring the band Aerosmith. I don't know if I would call it good by any means but it certainly is interesting, and it provides copious amount...
There is Still Nothing Like Microsoft 3D Movie Maker in 2024!
There still has never really been another creation tool like Microsoft 3d Movie Maker(3dmm). Released in 1995 by Microsoft, this game leverages the brender tech from Argonaut games and allows anyone to make 3D animations or "movies". I still find it fascinating just how well it still holds up, and its great to see so many people still having fun with it! Chapters: 0:00 - Intro 0:47 - My history...
Is This The Best PCI Sound Card for DOS? (Yamaha XG YMF724)
The Yamaha YMF724 is a cheapish $30-40 sound card. It can be the perfect DOS sound card for certain systems, but you will have some compatibility issues without the right hardware. If you want one I would recommend a motherbboard that supports SBLINK for the best experience. The sound is perfect when it works though, my only complaint is the OPL synth is a bit quiet. This Sound Card Is a Disaster for DOS Games (Trident 4DWave DX)
The Trident 4DWave DX/NX tries to do lots of neat things but ultimately fails at pretty much all of them. The FM to WaveTable conversion sounds neat on paper but is more abominable than a snowman. The chipset is also extremely picky about motherboards! Don't buy this unless its just for morbid curiosity. Buy a Sound Blaster Live If you need a cheap PCI Sound Card. It's so much more convenient to have the CD-ROM drive mounted like this. I still remember the order, but I'm not interested in modern handheld games, so I hope I can still find the ancient CD-ROM image files. As a Taiwanese, I am very familiar with the game “Three Kingdoms”, the fifth generation can hear the CD sound quality, so I need this technology. I still remember this game, can use the same company, the same period, Japan's Sengoku era game, Nobunaga's Wild Hope CD-ROM sound, but I should not have the opportunity, I do not play Japanese games. Thanks for your hard work!

You missed a USB option, there is a driver called USBDOS, and it lets you use USB drives in dos. It is only a trail, and has a time limit, but once I figure out how to contact the guy I'll have a paid copy .

Back in the days of the 8088, I bought a HD that fully occupied a 5.25 inch half-height drive-bay (the same size and shape as a DVD drive) and held 10meg, and what you have there (at least looks) older than that

Cool vid and yeah old computers really don't like the modern internet specially browsing. As a hobby still using my Amiga 1200 from 1992 and it's connected to the internet, it also knows how to deal with SSL, the A1200 is not standard anymore by any means. It's a pretty mean lean oldskool machine, there's also a port of Netsurf 3.10 available for M68K and loads the en.wikipedia page in about 8 sec. You can slot in a CPU accelerator board on the A1200's edge connector, mine has a PiStorm32 CPU card with Raspberry Pi CM4 overclocked at 2.2Ghz. The CM4 runs a nifty little bare metal Motorola 68K CPU JIT emulator that identifies itself as being a 68040 CPU to the Amiga and with native Amiga drivers it also possible to use the 2GB of RAM on it, the SD card controller, the VideoCore VI gfx (it runs the Amiga desktop in 1080P 32bit color with no effort at all) and we even have native driver for the wifi on the pi with WPA2 support. So can you surf the net on a 33 year old computer ? well yes but don't expect too much from it 😀

I had one of those in my computer I used for Modern Tasks between 2000 and 2006. It came with the 5 1/4 Drive Bay Accessory that provides front panel audio output and input. Sounded very good at the time. I never used it for Dos Gaming though. The Computer I still use for DOS Gaming has a Roland SCC-1 and a SB16 in it.

I have no problems still using DOSBox 0.74. I just create a .conf and .bat file for each game I want to play and adjust the .conf accordingly. No issues running anything under Windows 10 or 11. Does DOSBox-X have the option to save the currently-configured options as a .conf file?

    • @DOSStorm

Yes, you can save a configuration or configure the AUTOEXEC from the menu. You can also use the -conf command switch to load DOSBOX-X with conf files from a directory you specify.
