I've lived in Kitchener for 60 years and I enjoyed the parts of Kitchener I spent time in as a child and part of my adult life but now I definitely don't like it here. We have the light rail which is ground level which is just dumb it interferes with traffic a lot vehicles have got caught under the rails. I don't like living in an area where I feel government is not making smart decisions and having light rail on ground level is not a smart decision, pretty much any other area in the world that has this type of transportation system it's elevated. There is a lot of crime here and there's also way too many people from India here at least in the south part of Kitchener where I live. Pretty much everywhere I go I see these people. I feel like a minority in my own country. There's also a lot of orientals who don't know English well so it's hard to interact with these people in different type settings. I recently had an Uber driver bring me my Walmart grocery order and he was just mumbling, I don't even think he knew much English. English is Canada's main language and it's not our job to learn these other languages, these foreigners who choose to live in Canada need to respect our language and use it. Learn it and use it!

This is a joke. There are zero places in Chicago where renting a 1-bedroom apartment is affordable with a minimum wage full-time job. There is constant construction. There is constant traffic. The weather is extremely cold in winter and extremely hot in summer. Crime is ubiquitous. The government of Illinois was the second-most tyrannical under covid, after Hawaii. Look around and all you see are fat people. And homeless. There's trash everywhere. Businesses are leaving Chicago in the same way they are leaving New York, and residents are fleeing Illinois more than any other state except West Virginia. City Nerd is a moron.

Having grown up just west of Detroit, I've watched the city's demise, and now I've been closely following it's resurrection. I was just there touring the newly renovated and now open Michigan central station. I've been in the Guardian building, the Penobscot building as well as the Fisher building. I must say that these buildings are magnificent beyond description, and those are just a drop in the bucket. So many great old skyscrapers have been renovated after sitting empty for 2 or 3 decades, and now they are hotels and residence's. Brush Park is a site to behold as most of the remaining gilded age mansions have been revitalized, and they now mingle with tons of modern new build apartments and condos. The music seen there is amazing. The Fox and The Fillmore theaters are ornate and old world. I just ate at Slow's BBQ joint in Corktown for the first time, splendid. Just next to Corktown is Mexican town. Lots of great Mexican food there, plus there's El Club which hosts a variety of great, indie, punk and mostly 'left of the dial' type bands. You can't miss Midtown, where Wayne State University is. There's The Majestic Theater, Wholefoods, lot's of restaurants. However 'Royal with cheese' really blind sided me with one of the best cheese burgers I've ever had the pleasure of eating. Jack White's 3rd man records, plus Shinola next door are must visits. There are also many magnificent late 1800's mansions (still in midtown) that are all occupied and in great shape, plus one of the few remaining Cobblestone streets in Detroit. Obviously I could go on and on and on about Detroit but I'll have to stop here.

Traveling in general has become so unpleasant in major part due to Instagram and the attention seekers who want selfies. This has caused a trend in travel, which has clogged up most places with idiots who otherwise wouldn’t give a second thought about nature and they would be content just boozing at home and smoking cigarettes on their front porch. Another major factor is the "Buy Now , Pay Later" vacation options. Now brokies are traveling everywhere because they don’t have to actually have any money to do it. Before you actually had to earn good and take a well-deserved vacation (break from working) now broke jobless people are using the buy now pay later) that is why not only are things crowded, you get that low class vibe and people who are quick to fight and get angry everywhere. A lot of people lately have noticed the shift in attitudes everywhere and how people seem angry now and it’s due to this.

Chicago gets beat up by the conservative press, even though its crime rate is significantly less than what you find in many "red" states. It really is everything a city should be, though. A feature I love that you won't find in the big Eastern cities is the alleys that keep trash off the sidewalks.

The "T" is down again in various parts (it NEVER works) and the buses constantly break down or are very late (15-20 min). 97 score? More like 9 OR 7! WORST public transportation I have seen in any major city. Ever.

What I like about the Museum Campus in Chicago is that it has land (Field Museum), water (Shedd Aquarium), and space (Adler Planetarium)! Other popular ones are the Art Institute and the Museum of Science and Industry, which are both huge and perfect for you art and science lovers! There are so many more museums: Nature Museum, Contemporary Art, African American History, Surgical Science, American Writers, Polish History, Mexican Art, and so many I didn't even list! Oh yeah, and we don't just have the Lincoln Park Zoo (which is free), but Brookfield Zoo as well! We also have video game and comic conventions (C2E2) and Anime conventions! Don't forget the largest arcade in America (Galloping Ghost Arcade). Get your nerd and geek on in Chicago!

Detroit is such an amazing city! I drove from my hometown in Northern Virginia to visit the 313 in 2014 to check it out including an Tigers game and knowing the people, culture, architecture, and the Riverfront. Then, I took my mother and I to Detroit in 2015 and we volunteered to help the city to get back on its feet with tree planting off 7-mile road. My mother loves the riverfront so much she wanted to go back, but sadly she passed away last month from Bile Duct cancer at the age of 70. I decided to go back to Detroit this month to go check out the sites (Motown, Henry Ford, Ford Piquette, Art Museum, riverfront, etc) and volunteer again in honor of her memory. I'm planning to move there as well to buy a land bank home to renovate! RIP MOM

Granted, there is a lot of walkability and transit in Chicago, but... in some areas, large 'gaps' still persist, sadly. For example, I stayed at Rosemont for a week-long Chicago trip (late 2022), and one of my first stops was Galloping Ghost Arcade (on Monday, I think). While I was able to use the bus to get to an intersection that, supposedly, led me down a "straightforward" path- more or less- to said arcade, the fact that you *couldn't get there directly via transit* was annoying. You could only use transit to get off the first leg of the trip and then figure out another mode of transportation (or walk, perhaps, thanks to copious sidewalks, however "screwed-up" the state of some may be) for about 2-3 miles. I did see a lot of interesting bungalows, though. Even though, until I came back home, I didn't even know they *were* bungalows, funny enough! I looked-up an article from a few years prior (maybe... 5 years prior or so?), and it talked about how, even then, there were quite a few "stupid" gaps in where the buses and trains stopped. especially for those of modest means... Not to mention, as I found out later, the amount of RIDICULOUS locations for bus stops (lol)! Like, some of them, in the less-'urban' parts of Chicago (farther from downtown, in other words), had bus stops in places nowhere near or *off* the sidewalk in a 'more-grassy' part near the road/curb. And I'm like, "really?" Like, who comes up w/ such weird bus stop placement?? An "alarmingly high" amount of bus stops are in the "dumbest" and/or "weirdest" locations in the US, for one reason or another, apparently. I surmise that part of the reason is simply because they- the transit planners- "know", deep down, that 'a lot' of people may be around those areas, but, sadly, the "infrastructure"- especially sidewalks and the like- isn't yet there, and the transit folks "don't wanna wait" to have a sidewalk installed there before making it a bus stop, or something? Or maybe they figure that adding a sidewalk there is "too expensive"? Also... come to think of it, I planned to go to that one, huge "Japanese store" somewhere in the suburban parts of Chicago- I forget the exact name- and I looked up transit. Technically, you *can* get there via just transit from at least *some* parts of Chicago (like Rosemont), but... apparently, according to Google Maps, the CLOSEST you can get dropped off to is the sidewalk bus stop *near* the strip mall it's in! So, in other words, you'd have to get dropped off at the sidewalk and then, somehow, I guess... figure out a "safe way" to *walk into* the strip mall (and eventually the store) without being hit by some rude or selfish idiot driving around there? or maybe wait for an Uber to drop you off *into* the strip mall (just for such a short ride, though?) Not exactly the safest... Obviously, the safest option, as far as transit goes, would be to just... have a bus stop *closer to or within the strip mall*, at least?? Surely this is somewhat feasible? Or would a bunch of 'Chicago suburbanites' complain and bitch if that happened?? Would they think it's "tacky" or some shit, so the transit planners "dare not risk it" (just like with not putting transit stops near those aforementioned sidewalk-adjacent bungalows I referred to earlier)? Luckily, those were only 2 (maybe 3, including one I neglected to mention, possibly) stops where I "couldn't use" transit for the whole trip, but, nonetheless, these were far from "middle of nowhere" locations. The fact that, from what I can tell, many such locations, within Chicago proper, are still sorta "underserved" by transit access, does kinda suck, in any case. You'd *think* the people in charge of CTA would fix this but... I guess, in some cases, they're too afraid of "NIMBYs" getting pissed off and giving them 'extra flack', if not *somehow shutting down* such projects for 'extra stops' in certain parts, for all I know? If memory serves, Chicago is, nonetheless, pretty walkable and easy to access via transit- especially downtown- but, in any case... "dumb" gaps still persisting in places that, surely, loads of people walk and/or drive by regularly is kinda silly. Especially when, if memory serves, many *other* bus stops I noticed on my 'Monday excursion' were, if anything, MORE "in the middle of nowhere" (near 'more-industrial' parts of the suburbs that, in all likelihood, fewer *regular folks not going to or leaving a particular job or job site, would 'dare hang around' regularly). In other words, while most placement of transit stops- especially train- may make sense, within Chicago, the fact that there are "all too many" 'dumb' stops and/or "no stops" in certain areas that are frequented *by* many a regular resident, just makes little sense. Of course, maybe these "gaps" would be fixed if, like, the public-transit planners in various parts of the country *were required to put stops to a VOTE*, instead of just a handful of "folks in charge" (I guess?) being able to "unilaterally decide where all of the stops are"?? Surely if *the people*, by and large, had far more 'voting power' on at least some stops, they could put them in *sensible areas* (and not put extra stops in "dumb" areas)? at least, in theory

Rosemont is a separate city but in general Chicagoland does need better transit

Conde neste is not a legit source. It’s a Maganize that uses its readers to vote for cities which is a few thousand people lol.

You have correctly identified and emphasized one of Chicago's most important features - it's beautiful and distinctive architecture. Walking the path along Lake Michigan while looking at the varied skyline, from the museum complex (Shedd Aquarium and Field Museum of Natural History) past Lincoln Park, is a visual joy and it is wonderful exercise. Few cities embody the history of modern architecture as well as Chicago does.

Lived here a year and already witnessed 4 shootings, 1 of which had my mom and I diving behind a car and a tree in an attempt to salvage our lives. The cheap rent isn't worth it. This is NOT a great city - it's a bootleg city, and don't let any boosters try and prove to you otherwise. If you're young and in your 20s or early 30s, it can be a lot of fun. But after that, you grow out of it and realize you are marooned on an island of hardly-civilized alcoholics surrounded by red-neck hell.
