Good point. Still we were surprised that we saw almost no one with addictions, or mental health issues, who wouldn’t be able to afford a home even in Detroit.
About the produce issue, there's actually a Meijer owned store on Jefferson; quite big and affordable. There are also other grocery stores along Jefferson. Not sure about other areas.
Plenty of what you have said is correct, however you are not taking those negatives along with the positives. Detroit was known to being the engine of the world and had 1.8 million people in 1950. Since then, due to several bad decisions by multiple administrations, the city has suffered greatly. Population loss, job loss, lack of investment just to name a few. Detroit it seems, to be finally willing to address those bad decisions, and start the heavy lifting of bringing back investment. This is no easy task and no other US city has had to deal with this much disinvestment on this large of a scale before. Losing over a million residents in a span of 60 years would wreak havoc with any city's resources. Detroit is finally moving forward on several fronts and has much to offer the rest of the country (in which you pointed out in the previous videos). This will take time and there will be growing pains, but it seems as if we are on the path to fiscally stability and it's baby steps. Now, to address how you come off in this video is another thing. Your segments of corruption (being totally irrelevant to why someone should move to Detroit) are overblown for no reason. Corruption runs through every American (and yes I know you hate to hear it) and Canadian city. Others do a better job in hiding this corruption, but make no mistake, there is grift everywhere. Your smugness seems to show when you speak about Detroit as if it were something as an oddity but it is simply a result of decades of racial discrimination and poor leadership. I'm sure those in squeaky clean Toronto and Vancouver can say their hands are clean.....absolutely not. Also, another thing that some people who make RUclips videos do when they come to Detroit, is seem to get into the ruin porn vibe. We here are sick of it and are tired of those coming in to exploit it for their own RUclips success. Please refrain on doing this in the future. It shows your lack of respect for the area and it's rich history and it's also lazy. Your assessment on taxes is very true but that is something that is being addressed (albeit slowly). However you, yourself coming from Canada should be no stranger to high taxes, in comparison to wages, And also the issue of incentivizing business to invest in the city of Detroit, is that every single city worldwide that does this sort thing. In fact, Canada is one of the most subsidized countries in the world when it comes to it's citizens and employment. NAFTA ring any bells for you? Probably not, because it shows that Canadian citizens get preferential treatment in employment in the states in regards to certain industries. Canadian's seem to benefit from this agreement more that our American citizens do. Sounds a bit like you are speaking a bit out of line to say Detroit needs subsidies when your county seems a bit out of whack for doing the same thing and at the Federal and Provincial level, as well! In summary, just know what you say about Detroit is a tired narrative and we know we have a lot of work to do, but we don't need you doing this particular piece of hackery. You need to do better. Good luck. Thanks
Thank you for all of your thoughtful comments. FYI- I am a dual citizen- both Canadian and American, and have lived in both countries. The goal of our channel is to document our journey as we search for a place to live- either full time or as snowbirds. We plan to present both the pros and cons that exist in all places we visit. We were very surprised to see how much change is happening in Detroit and have been back many times as it has a lot to offer. I agree that corruption exists everywhere - but I do think the Detroit government needs more checks and balances.
Thank you. For a lack of better terms, buddy is talking out of his ass on this video. I’ve seen his content and do respect his knowledge and commentary city by city. He even had plenty of positive things to say about detroit in other videos. But this is outta pocket. The corruption segment - give me a break! As if no other city in America is corrupt? Plus, this is 2023, not the early 2000s still. Dude asking “how come we saw no homeless people in detroit” as if that’s all he expected. Hmmmmmm maybe we’re doing a good job with that? There are a lot of great public initiatives going into place to support the homeless along with many other social issues. Is there more to be done? Absolutely. But we’re chipping away at decades of neglect and decay. Don’t act like we can’t come back. This is Detroit - find me another city as tough as us and we’ll talk.
And the nerve to put “Detroit deserves better” in the preview graphic…. Cmon man. We’re building - you just wait. You’re gonna wish you bought that property like all the other RUclipsrs. SMH
The properties near downtown are likely owned by investors. Except for Corktown most of the neighborhoods near downtown were trashed decades ago. I don't know why Corktown survived. At least half of Corktown is gone. The freeways demolished many older neighborhoods near downtown.
These jobs don’t pay enough. On average rent is 950 and up with jobs still paying 11 dollars an hour but demand 40 hrs or more. I’m born and raised in Detroit, went through college and work some hard labor and retail jobs. If your trying to get “affordable housing” They’ll tell you to apply for section 8. What a joke
Great review. Eastern Market is the fresh produce market and a fabulous destination. BUT…….Mafia ties with Trump for sure. Why would he want to let him out. Duggar’s the Irish version. He also hired his own demolition company to demo people homes that had small water bills. The taxes to live and work in the city are so high. The insurance in the state is highest in nation. Poverty is so rampant and just blocks away from over priced rents. Rents are equal to NY and Chicago because speculators are coming in and charging same. But the city is not the same without the infrastructure of cafes restaurants and other amenities and the city does close down and empty out when workers head to suburbia. Ghost town on Sundays.
4:11 Housing in Detroit is actually affordable. Affordable housing = fewer homeless people. It's pretty simple.
Good point. Still we were surprised that we saw almost no one with addictions, or mental health issues, who wouldn’t be able to afford a home even in Detroit.
Excellent and accurate review of Detroit.
Thanks for your comments and support.

Jefferson Ave, St,?.
@@pierlouis7325 Rivertown Market, just past Rivard. Another one further down Jefferson. Several others around downtown as well, including Whole Foods.
Do a little research on the crime, a lot of it is drug crime in distant neighborhoods. The actual city center is one of the safest in the country.
Reasons 1-10 is the bad public transit. All the problems would be fixed with improved public transit.
I agree! Thanks again for your comment.😎👍🏻⭐️
The best reason to move to Detroit is to hear one's own inner voice. The rest of the voices are irrelevant.
You went to the AMC at Seven Mile and Haggerty! Did you stay in Livonia or did you stay in Detroit while you were here?
We stayed in downtown Detroit, but visited Trader Joe’s in Livonia 😀Thanks for your comment!
Looks like Chiraq/Chicago, where I live 😆
😳
Did you mention anything about hands sticking out if the ground?
Just read that on the news- such a terrible story

My guess is all the homeless are living in abandoned homes in neighborhoods outside of downtown (just a guess)
Probably true…thanks for your comment! 😊👍🏻⭐️

Thanks for your insight!
Number 11 should have been Democrats.
