Good points from a young Backpacker. I've been in Thailand 30 years. Teaching scuba on Phuket for 10 years. I ended up in Pattaya Jomtien and Buriram. Live in all 3 places. Gotta truck motorcycles bicycles. Thoroughly enjoying the whole country.

Have lived in Vietnam for a few yrs already but now being back in the west and looking to get out again, I would choose Thailand to live UNTIL Vietnam catches up a bit more.. which it will! Amazing country, lovely people... but it just doesn't have a few of the things I personally, and everyone is different so it may work for you, am looking for... BUT I will still go to VN frequently while living in TH as I still know alot of people there... but again, each to their own.. VN is awesome but just not for me to live day to day... there are of course pros and cons of both.. it just depends what works best for you!!

Age is just a number so let's not be narrow minded . Maybe you have one more year and that means you are very old or you will live till 120 so you are still a baby

I had my first kid when i was dead broke living on 200 baht a day. Now i have two kids and live on 20k a day. Kids force you to get more serious. My kids were born in Thailand the birth cost 30 baht. Kids are cheap until they go to school. Dont "wait" when you dind the right one just go for it.

Be careful mate I'm a few years younger than you (29) turning 30 in April. I'd like to have my first child around your age early to mid 30s, the problem with 'waiting until your ready finically' is the same excuse as not becoming a digital nomad until 'your ready'. Becoming a father would force you to make a lot more money, the drive will be life changing. Saying that, who knows maybe at your age I'll think different. It isn't an easy answer.

But I work for myself, am financially pretty comfy, learn Thai, go to Thailand when I want, train daily and pretty much live the life I spent years designing. Living by society’s tiring, boring and draining rules (which only really there for the benefit others) ain’t for everyone.

I’m 55. So take this for what it’s worth. Or not. You’re doing fine. You’re traveling. Stack your cash. You’ll still be able to have a wife and kids later on . IF that’s what you want. Me personally. My kid was born when I was 27. Short marriage to a nightmare of a woman. Became a single father. I regret the marriage. Not having the kid. It teaches you there are things more important than self. Now I’m living like you do. Nomad. Retired. Lived in Pattaya. Now in Montenegro making my way to Albania for a bit. You still have time for a family. If that’s what you want. But once you’re single for a very long time , you’re probably not gonna tolerate the BS that is needed to go with the happy wife happy life thing. Especially if you’re in Thailand or Colombia or Panama. Frankly you have too many options to settle down with the ONE . So it’s a double edged sword. I’d say marry when you’re young and dumb. It’s easier. If it doesn’t work out by the time you’re 50 your obligations are done if child support or whatever comes into play If you wait till you’re 40 let’s say. And let’s say it goes tits up. You’ll be 58 by the time child support is done. If you’re older then it doesn’t even become an option. Because if it goes bad. You can’t start all over again Depending on where you marry your wife will take at least half your pension , get the home and have child support. It’s too late to start over again. And don’t forget. Divorce , at least in the US is at 54%. It’s a coin toss. And coin tosses are best done when young. I don’t know you. But I’d wager if you haven’t done it yet. You’re probably not gonna do it

100% my thoughts - only it took me around 12 years of traveling (8 years in Asia) to finally get to that feeling that most likely Thailand is THE place. Anyways, it’s definitely not anywhere back in Europe

Expect much paperwork, costs and ever changing rules to hurdle over. Not as simple as YT videos say. The average stay for expats in Thailand is 3 years before they are gone. Being here 30 years I am happy I do not have to jump through todays hoops to stay here.
