I'm a digital nomad in asia right now. I agree with everything you said. I've been trying to decide where to settle down, but I would give a slight edge to bangkok for the same reasons as you.
For long-term residence, both countries have pros and cons . But if it's a short-term stay, Thailand probably wins because Thai hospitality industry is better and you re going to have a more diversified experience.
I went to SE Asia looking for a girlfriend and met someone in Thailand. We are now married and living in southern California. It might just be my impression, but Thai women seem more friendly and open to meeting a foreigner than Vietnamese women. I found Vietnamese women to be a bit distant.
Well in term of hospitality Thailand sure has an advantage over Vietnam. Also, Vietnam is a communist country there are certain things the government allow you to say, and certain things can get you into trouble if you question or you dare to express political affiliation. However, in term of education Thailand is lacking behind Vietnam because Thais are pretty much laid-back relaxing enjoying life while Vietnam on the other hand are influence by Chinese Confucious ideology which encourage people to work harder and harder. Plus, Thailand economy is pretty much stagnant over like 2 decades while Vietnam almost doubles its GDP in the last 20 years and expected to surpass Thailand and Malaysia by 2038 ranking 21st the world largest economy.
I totally agree with you. However, I guess if you really want to integrate into the country and live like a local (and not an expat), VN would be easier to do because language-wise, Vietnamese seems to me easier to learn for a Westerner because they have literacy. Anyway, thanks for the video! 👍
what is your intention when you compared two countries if it is your own taste as you said? so keep it inside unless you want others to chóose to live in TL over VN.
Vietnamese coffee is "world class" in the sense that most of the global swill is produced by low altitude grown "robusta" beans from Vietnam (along with low grown "Arabica" from Brazil). I'm currently in BKK and will be going to Vietnam (denang) in about a month. I'm actually considering bringing my own coffee. Robusta produced coffee mixed with condensed milk just isn't coffee in my opinion. I'll certainly keep an open mind though. I'm very much looking forward to visiting.

South Vietnam is nice and nicer in certain paces. They do eat lots of rabbit food. They do focus extremely on them self's and are very sharp and shrewd operators today. They were even more screwed 50 years ago. What ever some other nations thought to convince Vietnamese todo some thing for them, must have been utter idiots. They are not a match in hospitality, food and lifestyle to Thailand. Tolerance in Thailand is piece of mind, That does not realy exist with Vietnamese. They are 150% true to them selfs, more then anything. A very strong and national level of pride. Tourist location is OK, but living, not so much.

Most of your commentary is fine, but I do take issue when you mention that earing dogs takes place in Northern Vietnam; however, you don't mention that this also happens in Northern Thailand.

You should have mentioned that now in Thailand you get a 60 day visa exemption on arrival that is easily extendable by 30 days while in country. Should you want to stay longer, visa free, you are allowed two land border runs and 4 air travel runs per calendar year, each run giving you another 60 days. This gives you many months in Thailand visa free. As expected, the only caveat is, if you were to maintain your living in Thailand on visa exemption status, you will eventually be questioned and likely denied the ability to use that as a long term stay option of stay. The point here being, you don't need to do all of the work to get that DTV visa from the start.
