Stihl Blower Vac NOT WHAT I THOUGHT !
Sorry but U blocked ever important part of video thumbs down
I’m still learning. What part did I block if you don’t mind?
Hey, Ray! I don’t know man. I probably would have done very differently on this one. I certainly would have dumped the fuel first, but then I’d have sprayed some fuel down the intake to see if it fired. Assuming it did fire I would have rebuilt the carb(including ultrasonic), replaced fuel lines, blown out the fuel filter, cleaned the air filter, burned off and gapped the plug and seen how it ran. If necessary I would have cleaned out the exhaust port and burned out the muffler and spark arrestor, then tuned. I suspect this blower wasn’t run at full throttle all the time and/or was run with too rich of a mix, maybe 32/1. Given the minimal scoring I don’t think pulling it completely apart was necessary. What do you think?
I agree with you. It may have come around. I had already committed so figured I would show how they disassembled and reassembled in case it helped some viewers out.
@@RayofallTrades I suspected that may have been your reason for going that route. 🔧👍
1 down three to go. your video was just what I needed to do the job. That seal you put in hot water is an sob to get on for sure! stretched mine out of shape pretty bad, but no leaks and everything works like it should
Excellent! Thanks for sharing!
Excellent! Thanks for sharing!
great job on a good job well done I will be a good blower for a little while longer seem like it needs some TLC and work to get it going nice work
Thanks 👍
I'm doing mine soon. Thanks for great presentation! Very helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
You don’t have to remove the clutch bracket. It feeds around
It’s funny how this guy talk about how the other guy messed up building that saw . How about getting a flywheel puller . 10.00 tool ! I hope you didn’t jack up the bearings!
I have several. Thanks and point taken
I have one, inherited from my Dad when he passed. Been a great saw, still runs good. Stubborn as hell to get started if it’s been setting for a while. Often end up using starting fluid. But once it’s running it’s all good. Biggest problem I have is with the oiler somewhere. If I put oil in the tank it pretty much just flows right out. I have a 24” bar and chain on it, runs and cuts awesome. Someone told me once that I shouldn’t have that long of a bar because it’s not powerful enough, I was just like Oh, ok, thanks. Hell, feels like it could handle a 26” or 28” even. Just need to figure out what the heck is wrong with my bar oil oozing out.
I had one similar do that and the case was cracked because someone tightened the bar when the adjuster screw was no in line. I have also drained the oil before and blew air in and looked where the remaining oil came out. Use a rag though
Thanks for this video, specifically because I’ll be paying more attention to the spaghetti of fuel and vent lines on the Snapper ZT I’m working on right now. 🙏🔧👍
lol yeah the video playback has helped me that way before
Wow! Compared to the 2 and 4-stroke carbs I’ve worked on in the last 3 years, that carb is on a whole different level! At this point my original strategy to only work on OPE to the exclusion of sports equipment is looking more and more like a good idea! 😉🔧👍 Great job, Ray!
Thank you!
You approached this with a very thoughtful and careful attitude. Well done sir! Subscribed!
I appreciate that!
I also have both SAE and metric O-ring assortments after I found that one wasn’t enough to cover most not only sizes but thicknesses. They’re cheap enough that it makes sense to get both. 🔧👍
Me too plus any that I get with equipment I shove in a assorted bag
I always wire out orifices prior to the ultrasonic so there’s a better chance of the passages getting cleaned completely.
That’s a good idea. I might incorporate that
I also recently acquired sets of JIS screwdrivers and bits. I immediately put all my Phillips screwdrivers except the huge ones away and use the JIS for both. No more camming out on Phillips. Far superior tools and I’ll be acquiring more as the needs arise. I learned about these from Stella, The Lawnmower Lady. 🙏🔧👍
They definitely grab better on these screws
Just so you know, Ray, I can sometimes tend to want to leave long comments covering several issues or topics seen in a video. Doing this previously usually resulted in not getting responses to all my points, so nowadays I leave multiple individual comments or questions. I think this makes it easier for creators to respond to all of them.
Thanks for that
Just when you thought you were done, you made the mistake of noticing the other side. D’oh! 😉😂🔧👍
You got that right!
I need had that kind of atv but some are harder to work on then other thanks for the video I learned something from it and this brand of atv
Glad I could help. Thanks for watching!
What a find !
Thanks! runs great now!
👍👍👌
Thanks!
It seems as though it would be much simpler to get at the carb from the rear, though you said it may have taken you half the time to get at from the top. To what do you attribute that statement?
Well I did it both ways due to a cleaning fail and the tip way took half the time. It had to due with the rear counterweight, brackets and muffler removal and the normal others. Next time you have one of these in, take a look and let me know which you prefer.
@@RayofallTrades I’ve only been at this for 3 years and just working on my first ZT right now, so I have no experience with this operation. I could see snapping off an exhaust stud or bolt being my biggest problem if I chose that route. I don’t have to remove this carb so it won’t happen this time. Lots of other issues with this machine, but it does run OK.
@@Rein_Ciarfella nice! I’m sure one will be coming your way soon. Thanks for sharing
Thank you, thank you!!
You are so welcome!
Not fit for perpose Had the strain my gas 4 times to remove one spoon full of water Out of half a gallon of gas
That’s strange. The funnel keeps about 2 spoonfuls of liquid every time it’s used no matter what. I wonder if yours has a leak? Might be worth looking into
Thanks for the video. On my model 938548, 54 inch deck, was not an easy job took about 3 hours. Had to remove the deck spring, and removed the deck belt, and then worked the drive belt over both pulleys over the top - enough room over the pulleys and I used a claw grabber and a screw driver to work them over - no room for fingers. I did not need to remove the PTO bracket or the skid plate. Then around the pto pulley and under the idle arm and on to that pulley. My drive spring is a lot different that this video - it was much more stout and I struggled for a long while to get it on with a variety of tools - such as my spring tools and needle nose vise grips. I have looked at a few of these videos and the drive spring is smaller on the older units I guess. Not fun!
Ouch! Thanks for sharing. Hope I don’t run into an older unit like that.
i just give to some one no need head ch
I’m sure someone can use the parts. That is very thoughtful.
Really nice it turned out great work on it like that machine. A great video and explaining the steps for each of the things that you did have fun with it
Thank you very much!
Only the professional models have that screw. You can take the gear head off and put some in through where the drive shaft goes into the gearbox but 99% never do this.
I figure most people aren’t aware to
I caught my Wife running my 128LD weed eater on half choke. I know she had to be running it for 30 minutes at least. Will that mess up the motor? The reason I ask is because now it shuts off at full throttle.
Usually that causes the plug and spark arrestor to clog up. Pull the spark plug and also the screen out of the muffler and clean
So Ray in your experienced opinion. Have you ever seen a gearbox bolt sheer off? Because mine has. I just had it aligned 3 weeks ago to straighten the steering wheel and now I’m holding one of the 3 bolts in my hand.
I went to video the parts that I knew that needed replaced so when I went to my mechanic I had a pretty good idea as to what I wanted done. The 6” bolt hanging out 3” inches was a bonus 😂👀 WTF?
I have not but that would be worrisome if there was no excuse as to what happened
No way could I have done that down on my knees... Those days are over for me...! "Well Done!"
Sir I got a zt1 42 cab cadet zero turn when change the carb thinking that was the reason my mower lossimg power but after I change it and I go.to engaged the blade still loss.power what u think should be the issue the coil u think
First disconnect the spark plugs one at a time to see if 1 cylinder is dead. If so, swap the spark plug then coils around to see if the problem move. This will help you find the bad parts
@RayofallTrades well the spark plug are new so u think I might be the coil wire
@@EmilioDelaRosanot necessarily. New plugs can be bad but if the problem was before and after changing them, then not likely. Identify the bad cylinder then swap the coil or test with a spark tester before you buy any parts
@RayofallTrades OK imagine try that but when it's running and I engaged the pto to turn on the blades the power get weaker ima try that I hope that solve the problem
How do you replace the tires?
I just inflated them
@@RayofallTrades they don't hold air
@@williamkennedy1149if you have a harbor freight or tractor supply nearby, they may have a good substitute
@@RayofallTrades the question is how to get them off the axle. No cotter pin
@@williamkennedy1149oh. Usually you end up destroying the end cap getting it off but I usually squeeze them with pliers and twist them off. This should be the one way push caps like some wagons have
Is there any after marker part number you can find for these? One of our workers straight gassed it and blew up the exhaust side of the piston and put some bad marks in the cylinder head it had 30psi compression before rebuild.
Lots of parts available including the piston in my description. Those saws are worth saving!
@@RayofallTrades I see all of the aftermarket pistons, I just can't find any aftermarket or relatively cheap oe cylinder head kits.. if you have a link or any insight I'd appreciate it thanks!
Cant find any on amazon but put this part number into ebay: Stihl 1141-020-1206 it should give you good prices on used cylinders from eb@y. I would definitely see if you can sand out the damage though. I save a lot of cylindrs that way.
@@RayofallTrades wish I could! You can see light through the top of the piston looking from the bottom.. I think she's done for and toast. Thankyou sir!
@@DaltonJustice-wp8zngotcha. Yeah she’s done. Let us know how it goes please. Hopefully you can grab a used one. They say a 271 cylinder will fit with minor mods. Google that part number and read the comments on the 271 vs 291
The battery cable to the starter motor is not HOT until you turn on the key to start the motor.
Correct. The cable to battery is hot then the solenoid gets triggered with the ignition switch which activates the solenoid plunger applying power to the starter. Unless the starter has the solenoid attached, then the power is available at the starter all the time.
I had this exact issue on a brand new faucet… Within three days it was already clogged at the point where the water flow was at basically zero. This did the trick and took about two minutes to fix… Thank you!
Excellent!
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
I worked on an Older John Deere this spring with a starter that didnt engage. Besides the battery being dead, I figured out the selinoid was not only bad, but after disassembly, I couldnt believe my eyes. It looked like someone hammered on the plunger that actuates the engagement. There was no sign of damage in the bore, no metal pieces, no indication of internal causes. The owner told me his father purchased the starter used off the internet. Whomever sold him that starter must have disassembled it and why on earth they beat on that plunger is beyond me. It had a significant dent in one spot with flanged metal that was catching in the bore. I have been working on small engines for 30 years and have NEVER seen this.
Me either! Thanks for sharing
👍 Thanks, Ray ... nice and relaxed :)
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching!
You actually don't need to remove the bracket. Just stuff the whole belt in through the space between the bracket and open it on the other side!
Nice! That will make it easier. Thanks!
Did you use a special tool to set the rings?
You can use ring pliers or just fingers normally
What’s the update with that little red bar piston ? Is it lasting ?
Very well actually. I’ve been impressed!
I got one too and rebuilt mine to out runs great man I can’t believe it !!
@@YoungOzzy432very nice! Cool engineering design
I just got a new carburetor for mine and it ran okay for a day or so. And now I haven't been able to get it to stay running. But it looks like I might have the fuel lines backwards. That's what your video is showing me. Reinstall the carburetor tomorrow and find out. Thanks we will see.
Could be, the primer pulls through the carb and is the last part before returning to the tank
Did u adjust "H" screw at all? Thank you
Yes. Set for proper rpm or just a little rich side of max
Same trimmer that is doing now. Last time it did this I adjusted idle. This is next.
Good luck and thanks for watching!
Never clean a sponge air filter with Brake clean or Carb cleaner. It destroys the sponge! Dish soap & water is what you should use.
Great tip! Thanks!
I followed your video carefully, to a "T" and changed the carburetor on my 9-year-old Echo CS400. Now runs like a top. Thank you for sharing.
Great job! Feels good doesn’t it?
I love the video, thanks! Being a dabbler in things mechanical, It made me laugh to see I'm not the ONLY person that has things flying off benches!!😂😂😂😂
You and me both! I appreciate you watching
All those brackets are weak. Hustler makes a kit to beef up all those brackets.
Oh cool! Do you have the part numbers or link?
To anyone following this tutorial, when adjusting the needle level you don't need the tool. The tool has a flat side for this model carburetor so you can literally use any flat edge and it will work.
Great tip!
Awesome I'm teaching myself to weld also always a need in lawncare👍🏾
Thank you so much!
We learned nothing
Well then thank you for watching and giving me a chance to
I sent 2links that wuz on ebay or u can also order directly from Hustler dealer
