Making Australian salmon fish jerky and catching a feed of fish for my dog.
Hi all we are down on my local beach to try and catch my dog my mate for the last near 16 years a feed of fish she isn't very well and what she has will be the end so she is getting all the care and attention that she deserves. Secondly we are going to make some Australian salmon fish jerky I have never made this before but with the help of some other you tubers it turned out pretty dam good. People say its best not to use to oily fish so that makes Australian salmon good to use I marinated my fish over night its best like that it soaks in better so better for preserving or a few hours will be fine if your in a rush. I dehydrated my fish for 6 hours at 70 degrees celsius and it was very d...

Thank you all for watching and do hope you enjoy.

I have never re used my pickling mix but I have thought about it, if I was going to re use it I think I would leave the capsicum and the dill out and other stuff like that because it goes mushy it's probably best to just use the pickling spices and other dried stuff like chilli. I have had a google search and it did say you could use it a second time but maybe not a third time. Cheers mate and enjoy.

      Hi thank you, you can find these worms on a few Adelaide metro beaches I know they are on west beach and a few others but not all of them I haven't done any worming down that way but where you can find ribbon weed washed up along the wave line on a beach is worth a look. I have done all my worming on O'sullivans beach, Christies Beach but Port Noarlunga and South Port beaches are out of bounds now no worming allowed but they can be caught at Moana, Maslins, Pt Wilunga, Aldinga, Silver sands, and Normanville, Carrickalinga beach and a couple of beaches on kangaroo island. As far as I know there are no Bungam worms over on the York Peninsular you could have look though. You can catch these worms all year round but it is best in the summer months because your hands don't get cold. P.S watch my number 3 worming video it is informative. All the best David

    Hey mate, love your videos. Just to be clear, you don't bother with flurocarbon leader for audtralian herring eh? Just mono is good enough? Not an issue with visibility?

    • @davidsheldonfishing9726
      @davidsheldonfishing9726 4 месяца назад

      Hi Sam, thank you. Mono a good quality is fine 6lb-12lb with no visibility problems but as always the lighter the better. Sometimes they can be fussy especially before the numbers increase when you start fishing for them. When they are fussy they love small pieces of peeled tweed prawn are my favourite, and when they are really biting I find maggots the best.

      @davidsheldonfishing9726 thanks for the reply, Dave. I grew up fishing until my early 20s when I became a vegetarian for 23 years. When I (and my family) started eating fish again, I wanted to catch it all, so I knew it was fresh, being dispatched humanely, and iced so it wad the best quality. I've been back on the rod for about 5 months now - fish at least 3 times a week, and have fallen in love with it again. It was a hard 23 years not fishing, but I'm glad to be back! I'm adept at squidding but with all the technology changes, it's been a learning curve. Using braid and fluro with an FG knot wasn't something we ever had when I was younger and boy it makes catching squid fun. I've been wondering if I should just use mono for a herring leader as it's so much cheaper than fluro. I make killer burley cages attached through a sealed champagne cork for herring fishing above a circle hook. Fun times. Can I send you a couple in the post as a thank-you?

      @@allbunsglazing that's a great story, wow no fishing for 23 years. It's so rewarding going fishing treating the fish the way you mentioned and then feeding the family the best protein available. Nice to hear your little girl woofs it down, she knows what's good for her and so do you getting back out there fishing. Squid fishing I personally do have a chuckle about all of the new modern ways to fish for them I can see the wow factor for somebody totally new to squid fishing. Also fluro it definitely good for fishing when you need a robust leader or trace for big fish or rock fishing or a harder to see fishing line for them tricky to catch fish, but for most of my fishing I can manage without. Your burley spring floats sound great I do appreciate you offering to post me some out but the post could be expensive this is my P\O box number but I understand if the post is deer and you don't send them. Amazing beach. Went there today for the first time as on a business trip in Adelaide. Watched this video before and forgot about rocks mentioned, well as a result got my line snagged bhahahhaha. Fished on metals. Got 6 fish, supposedly salmon, well by the look of it, and lost all 6 when getring them to the shore. This spot with rocks is awesome for catching fish but not sure how to bring them in. Water movement is way to strong and they unhook themselves.

      High Pavel good to hear from you again, it is a nice beach isn't it. Yes it is good fishing near them rocks but always get snagged eventually because of the currents I caught some nice fish there last winter including a nice bream on cockle. I haven't made a video for a while but I have planes for a lure video eventually. I use to have a lot of trouble with salmon coming off at the edge on lures we started to use 2 treble hooks on the same split ring or a hook and a treble or a single hook can help or 2 hooks, also if you remove the split ring and thread your line through both eyes on your lure and tie your treble directly onto your line when the salmon shakes its head the weight of the lure won't help the hook to come out. All the best next time

    Hello David, just watched your video and I am really amazed. Back in 1990 I lived in Port Neil, and an old timer gave me a recipe identical to yours but with two differences. Milk insted of paresan and cracked wheat in place of the curry. It was a dynamite burley and could be changes for any species. I am in Qld now and I really like your recipe.

      Hi Michael, great story it was a good day meeting the old timer (seasoned fisherman) it was a real treat being told his burley recipe, I have heard of wheat being used in burly but I have never tried it but I have never heard of milk in burly that is interesting. Thanks for commenting and it will be fun trying these new burley ideas. All the best David.

    Don't need float stoppers,that's what the spring is for

    • @davidsheldonfishing9726
      @davidsheldonfishing9726 5 месяцев назад

      That's right but this float slips unless I use a half hitch or wrap my line around the float as well as the spring so I use float stoppers no problem.

    HI DAVID,,,,,,,ON YOUR SURF RIGS HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT HOOK SNOOD,,, SPREADER 'S,,,,,TO STOP THE FISH HOOKS FROM TANGLING UP ,,,,,ARE THEY ANY GOOD TO USE,,, OR JUST A WAIST OF TIME

    • @davidsheldonfishing9726
      @davidsheldonfishing9726 5 месяцев назад

      Hello Peter, I remember the wire snood's from years gone by to hold and spread your hook snood away from the main line trace also other hooks to help stop the hook snood from twisting, they did work. I'm not too sure on the type of technique you are referring to I'm hoping this is what you mean. On my salmon surf rig I use heavier line 35lb it helps reduce tangles in the turbulent surf so I'm happy with that.

      Hi no we don't eat them but they might be nice, we actually use them for fishing bait they are one of the best fishing baits.
