Hi Dave, Great video once again. We run a bar of soap over the stainless wire before using it and we leave the sinkers in the mold (which is usually in a vise attached to the table) and get a pair of vise grips on the wire and give it a good tug. It comes out most times with little effort. I love your videos please keep them coming. Andrew

Great video again David. That took me back to my grandpa's shed making sinkers with him as a kid. He used hollow bamboo with wire in it then cut them to size. Still have some of them today. Keep up the great videos, look forward to the next one.
Thank you Frank, it seems like this video has struck a few memory cords for a few viewers, that is good I think this video has done well. The hollow bamboo used by your grandpa sounds great the things they used back then, I bet you wouldn't like to get a snag with one of them sinkers and loose it very precious. I look forward to doing the next one.........Cheers and all the best David.
Great to see you back Dave. Instead of wire on my star sinkers I used barrel swivels. I also followed your other video and made my own berley springs for them. Look forward to more videos again
Hi Kevin, thanks for saying mate I was going to mention the swivels but forgot, I recon sinkers and burley springs go together like pees and carrots. Fishing soon, Thanks for watching....Cheers David
The spoon sinkers reminds me of my old man, we'd make them back in the 60s when I was a kid. Went down Carakalinga beach a couple of weeks back and cleaned up. Good sized gar, whiting, mullet, tommies and sweep (didn't keep those though), all in the surf. Made my own berley to your recipe, it makes a huge difference. They were biting within minutes
The old spoon sinker use to be very popular very good sinkers. Sounds like you did clean up nice bag of very tasty fish there, that burley is very good isn't it if I may say so myself. Good to hear from you again, I myself will be getting out soon so hopefully another video not to far away.

Thank you John for your comment mate its very nice, its my pleasure mate especially with feedback like this, makes it all extra special. Thank you again and you take care too john.
Thanks David, i always wondered how they got those eyelets in those star sinkers. I guess if you put a swivel in that would work too. Thanks for these videos. They are gold 👌

David, when you are casting lead, drop a piece of beeswax into the pot before you scrape off the dross. Give it a stir while it is melting and this fluxes the lead and leaves it clean. Used to do this when casting round balls for a muzzle loading rifle to keep the lead pure.
Thanks for the tip Keith, I will give that a go next time. I can imagine how perfect the lead would have to be for a muzzle loading rifle, very nice. Thanks for watching and passing on your experience Keith much appreciated.

If you use nonstick cooking spray in your molds and on your wire inserts, the wire inserts will come out of the sinkers easily and the sinkers come out of the molds with little to no effort. Just lightly spray the inside of the molds and the wire inserts before use, and after about every third or fourth run. I have been doing this for MANY years, and it works great. You can use whatever nonstick cooking spray that you want to, but I use the cheap nonstick canola cooking spray or nonstick olive oil cooking spray, from my local Dollar General store. I would steer clear of the flavored varieties.
Hi, thank you for your tips using the cooking spray for the moulds and the wire I will do that for sure. All the best to you and your fishing...Cheers David.
Big candle or a flare pot, the sort you use to burn citronella oil in to get rid of mossies. Use the flame to coat your wire or moulds with a layer of carbon black - instant mould lubricant...

Thank you, dear friend, for your precious advice. I will be going fishing this coming week for Squid and Tommy Ruff. I will see and let you know how I went by increasing the amount of Bread. My next fishing trip after this will be of the Surf. What was missing from my tackle box were special sinkers with anchors. Very hard to find with collapsible legs. I found a shop and purchased 3 units. From, Mid Coast Fishing and Tackle in Lonsdale. 5160 S.A. >>>>> Again, thanks a lot. P.S Have you made a video on reading the Surf and Waves for the best place to fish????
My pleasure Ilias, hope the extra bread crumbs helps I think it will, yes let me know how it goes it will be good if you can catch some tommies and squid it will be good fun trying if not. Mid Coast Tackle is a good shop, good they had the grapple sinkers you were after they work well in a strong current if the current isn't to bad on whatever surf beach you fish it might be ok to use a 3oz star sinker. I think I might have to see about doing a video on reading a beach. Tight lines Ilias.
Bloody good video. Comprehensive view of how to make sinkers - i do it alot and im gonna film my escapades in the topic, but i learnt a thing or two from you through this vid. Do you ever "flux" your lead ? I use lumps of dirty lead i was given along time ago, and the tiniest piece of candlewax per saucepan i melt separates the shit from the clay very well. I love your berley cage varieties, all the ones i have made have been star sinkers with berley cages dunked in so they are fixed. I reckon your free moving ideas are awesome. Il be uploadong a bit more as I go and hope to see more great content from yourself !
Hi mate, sorry late reply no I never have fluxed my lead I have never bothered too but it would be better if I did, some where in these comments a couple of other people did mention that so will try next time I make some more sinkers using your suggestions. The burley springs do work a treat and if you don't squeeze the end the sinker is connected to you can easily swap different sized sinker if needed. Have fun with your sinker making video showing fluxing it will be interesting. Thank you for watching and commenting and I shall subscribe to you now and keep a eye out for you sinker video. Cheers David
As a once a year fisherman....sort of.....I have a lot to learn. Looking forward to my grand fishing tour long service leave in three years....not that I'll be making my own sinkers 😎
Sounds good long serves leave fishing tour. Lots of fishos will be more than willing to help out when you are into the action. What no sinker making. Thank you for watching and dropping a line.
Hmmm we will have to see, I have got a few things planned, now its making them reality. hopefully I don't leave you guys waiting too long. thanks for watching Mike Perth appreciated mate. Glad your enjoying the burley it is very good isn't it.. Cheers.
If you had made like a key handle on one end of your wire through. Then when you have poured your lead. give the wire a twist straight away. That should make it easier to slide off when cooled down a bit. Otherwise coat your wire with WD40.
David this is something I’ve always wanted to do. Great way of using my scrap lead up. What’s the names of the moulds you use and the name/term of the weights. Over your end you use different words for the same thing that we use in the UK. It’s great being thrifty. Thanks mate, loving your videos.
Hi Richy, yes good fun making sinkers the moulds are generally called the name of the sinkers we are going to make. When I was back over in the UK I also noticed the names of the sinkers were different one of the only ones we call the same are split shot. Thank you for watching and commenting
David thanks for your reply. I made also the burley but for some reason, it does not bond together, and it's not because I made it wet, I used a small amount of seawater. Do you have a remedy
Hi Ilias, my pleasure mate. OK the burley, sounds like you are aware about the amount of water to add so the only other thing is the bread. Bread is the real bonding agent in this burley, if you are adding a bit of pollard too that also can help bond the burley, bran is a good additive to the burley to bulk it up, but a bit to much bran can help it not bond together as good when squeezed together. So hopefully it's only to do with the amount of bread crumbs used or maybe to much bran.Have you watched my Tommy Ruff jetty fishing rig video at 15:37 I talk about and show my burley but thats adding water and mixing together what you all ready know. So hopefully your problem is just about the amount of bread crumbs, happy to hear you are giving the burley a go, over all the years of my fishing this burley is really worth the effort....You will solve the problem eventually Ilias and will love it......Thank you for watching and commenting and I wish you all the best mate........David
Try chucking your wire in a drill and pull as you spin it. Straightens out better than a hammer in a second or 2 and doesn't scuff and dent up your table tops.
Hi Lee thanks matey, yes I remember breaking up car batteries, never again will I bother with that, lol. I will give you a ring Lee sooner or later stay well mate.
Hey name great video! What did you use to make the star sinker eyelets? I tried using swivels in my star sinker mould but they didn't turn out so great and lost a few sinkers on the cast
G'day jay gee, the eyelets are made out of thin galvanised wire cut to lenth and shaped the way I have in the video, I have used swivels before I used the ones with the clip part on for better holding in the lead the trouble I had was eventually with corrosion and wear the swivel eye would break and the sinker was gone so I don't use them anymore, there are a lot of sinkers sold with swivels on but wire hooks are better they don't break. All the best with that jay.
Thank you llias, yes this is SA, the fishing can be pretty good over hear but of course it helps to know where and when and local knowledge is priceless. My videos will help you a bit if you get over hear thank you for your comment mate. All the best David
Hello Russell, I bought the triple star sinker and the snapper sinker mould from BCF and the other two I had given to me a long time ago, maybe try tackle world also the smaller fishing tackle shops will probably stock sinker moulds. Thanks you for watching and making sinkers is good fun.
I used these with the Team Catfish weight slides to make a ruclips.net/user/postUgkxdmsDj7fQXe77DC0l7P7ua8B3PiESUubM Carolina rig and they were perfect for the ponds I fish. I have also used them to make 3 way rigs and these work perfectly. Haven't had any issues with them snagging in rocks or in weeds yet.

@@davidsheldonfishing9726 thanks for the subscription and well wishes. There ain't enough hours in a day, haha !
Whats the next how to video going to be, can't wait. Your berley recipe is awesome.
Hi mate thats a great tip thanks, I can see how that would work a treat. Cheers
You only need to pull on the tip, check out some vape coil tutorials, you'll see what I mean
Well done Dave, remember the days making them out of car batteries
@@davidsheldonfishing9726 hey David thanks for the reply! you make a Very valid point and i will no longer use swivels! thanks a bunch for the help!
Pussycat sneeze "Bless you MITZY."
Good to see you back. Do you live in SA??????
Love to come and fish there one time. Love your videos.

Where did you purchase your moles from
Hello Russell, I bought the triple star sinker and the snapper sinker mould from BCF and the other two I had given to me a long time ago, maybe try tackle world also the smaller fishing tackle shops will probably stock sinker moulds. Thanks you for watching and making sinkers is good fun.

Thanks from Australia, yep very universal.
Hello again David. Hope your well
Hi bob, yes I'm doing ok hope you are to mate, thank you. I will be out fishing soon so look out.
Master!!!
Thank you my friend and good to hear from you. hope you are saving some fish for me.
Hey Dave, Geez you look like Mike Ehrmantraut from Breaking Bad.
G'day, thanks I'll take that as a compliment he's cool. Top show too
try putting vaseline on the wire before moulding. they come off easier
Thanks mate will do, soap had a mention in the comments too. Thanks for the advise bud.
Spray dry graphite lube on your wire and molds for a painless release
Wish somebody had told me about that a long time ago I didn't know that was avalable thanks Blake
You sure can save save some money. Thank you for watching
Where's the fishing videos mate been awhile
yes I know what your saying, on its way sooner rather than later, winter is coming, if I don't get out soon I'm going to stagnate lol.
@@davidsheldonfishing9726 haha hearing u mate not a problem at all looking forward to seeing the fishing videos mate all the best
You really need a pair of welders gloves to protect your hands from the heat.
I sure do, things do get hot so I could really do with a pair of welders gloves I shall get a pair. T.hanks for watching and commenting.
Rub the wire with soap don't put into mold until your ready to pour
Thanks for the tip matt.
No problems at all the soap just makes the wire eaiser to pull out
A bit slap dash if you ask me!
G'day mate, thanks for having a watch and commenting.
A double layer of corrugated cardboard wrapped on your handle will cover the heat.
Thanks Phil, I shall do that next time for sure.
Welcome again, seniors to see his work on making artificial bait
