The microbrand Rolex Aquaterra | Wise AD7 review
With their luxurious finish and insane amounts of lume, Wise have by now establish themselves as a worthy alternative to established luxury brands' entry level timepieces. AD7 is last year's big hit, and, after awarding it the 4th position in my 2023 Top 10, I am now lucky enough to experience it in its 904l stainless steel.

Sylph and its cousin, Hellcat, are testament to the microbrands’ ability to mix and match. Have you checked out Corniche watches? Outstanding finish. Why Wise over that? Comparison would be interesting!
I wish I was in the position to pick the watches I review... This is a watch I borrowed from a friend. He does not own a Corniche. Quite a few members of this community have helped the channel tremenduously by lending watches and contacting brands about sending me watches to review, and for that I am extremely grateful!
Love people that shine, but polish is hard to swallow! (pun intended?!) 😜 Another wisely designed watch, not for my lifestyle though. Cheers Toni, enjoy!
I know quite a few Polish people that shine...
Thanks for a great review. I have a few Wise watches and I just think they are terrific.
Thank you! Will Wise be the new Christopher Ward?
Great review. I have two of this model already, and they are super quality. I have the gold version with white dial and loved it so much I bought the stainless version with taupe dial. Now I’m considering buying another. It’s an impressive quality, and I say this having many, many other watches of higher price points. Wise is the hidden gem in the watch world
Thank you! Such feedback from real world users vindicates my review conclusions!
This is the first vid of yours I have watched, and your balanced review with substantive commentary is excellent! It may be confirmation bias, but I am finally found a source of microbrand analysis that resonates! Thank you!
Wow, thank you, I'm humbled and motivated by your praise! Welcome to the channel!
I want literally every Wise model. The fact that I'm half Thai is only, like, a quarter of the reason.
I hear you, man... ❤️ I've got a quarter less reasons, but the same desire!
Good review of an impressive watch. I have considered a Wise, but really not a fan of the font they've used for their logo. It just doesn't suit really any watch. Perhaps a box of medicine or a printer, but not a watch. I hope they change it one day.
Thank you for watching! It seems this is a recurring theme for many microbrands, and that only makes those inventive enough to come up with fresh, interesting logos even worthier of praise.
@@watchyawant Indeed. Look at the pain Christopher Ward went through! I have every faith in the Wise team. If they can come up with watches this beautiful, they're more than up to the challenge.
Thanks for the review. Wise watches are outstanding quality. Have a few of their divers. My favorite is the bronze case with green dial. Stunning bronze watch! Also have the dark meteorite dial on their new bracelet. Again, stunning. Not really a dress watch guy, but those lacquer dials, wow! Beautiful watches.
Congratulations on an awesome new watch for your collection! honestly im a little jealous lol If it had a bracelet, i wouldnt even consider pulling the trigger. Thing is i really love the adamascus case but even with an aftermarket bracelet it would look odd. Soo the one that i want i cant really have (adamascus case with a bracelet) and the one that is the logical choice (904l which can be paired with a bracelet) im on the fence about. I wonder how the adamascus case would look with a polished mesh bracelet.. Next month im gonna get a Certina ds trust (full titanium square shaped eta quartz movement) and VanBanner just had a sale and i got 2 Leas for my friends and i just got a Sumo and a promaster diver soo maybe in the future.. idk..
Well, thank you, but, unfortunately, this isn't my watch, just a loaner from a friend... Glad to see you're busy getting all the good stuff!
@@watchyawant aww sorry to hear that 😔
Very happy to welcome another Wise on your channel. This is the model where I suppose I got convinced that Wise can no longer be ignored. The AD8 being a diver, albeit probably among the most attractive, and the AD9, for me, still walking too much of a unremarkable safe route, while the Hitman offering a great value characterful tool watch to outcompete the lower tiers, I needed another model to get on board with. This certainly is that. Having said that, from what I have been able to gather through the back catalogue, I think the recognition for Wise came when they truly deserved it. Before it seems many of the models catered more for niches and really their local market. Then, somehow, they pulled out all the stops and made a significant quality jump. Now they're among the best microbrands, seemingly agreed by a majority of reviewers. So, yes, it took a long time, but the learning curve paid off and the growth potential is still there, as international (brand) recognition still lags behind the quality of the output. I thought that I might purchase an AD7, but felt unsure about the damascus and the relatively large wearing experience. I erroneously thought that the stainless version was all polished, so I'm glad to be reminded of a beautifully brushed side, which actually slims and accentuates the case design. Perhaps it's the gold plated version that is all polished? My preference is for the reddish brown or cream enamel dials. Yet, there remains something about the dial (perhaps the sportier stance of the markers with small arabics underneath and astute geometric handset) that hasn't quite won me over like the gorgeously shaped case. Comparing with the AD15, I actually regretted that they didn't persist the bezelless construction of the AD7 there, as I think it contributes greatly to its character and helps in making that inner lug bevelling so successful. Seeing it on your 19cm wrist, I am reminded that the AD7 would likely wear large for me. And having accepted several around 40mm watches recently, I feel the need to downsize my wearing experience a little. Just so my general wearing experience through the collection doesn't always err large. The shell cordovan for me is the strap this belongs on. It is very congruent with both dial and case.
I would also go for the creamy one, but, apparently, everyone else does, as it's sold out more often than not... Not a fan of Damascus either. As for how big it wears, it kinda soured my enthusiasm - for this dial/case ratio it would have to be 37 to feel it suits me.
@@watchyawant interesting. You sound a bit more negative off camera. I think on your 19cm it does look fine, but perhaps not 'refined'. But then, that is arguably what has kept me from this model. The case shape is intricately executed, but the dial layout isn't the most refined in my view. For refinement I feel the AD15 does better and for toolishness the AD8 offers more to sink one's teeth into. I agree that a 37mm version would likely do better, since it wears large, but I wouldn't mind them experimenting a bit with the markers and hands either. All that said, one doesn't have to be completely convinced by all designs of a brand to still appreciate what they're achieving.
Absolutely, does the perfect watch even exist? I wouldn't call my personal take negativism, just my personal opinions on things that are subjective to any prospective owner. Had I reviewed the Damascus case, I would've commented i'd prefer the 904, as for the dial size I'm on record for saying I would've loved a dial/case ratio that would work more towards emphasising the case.
@@watchyawant that's a great analytical answer!
The finishing is amazing..just shortlisted for myself, calling Poliția Română on you. 🤣

Outstanding look here, thanks for the rundown.
Glad you like it, Fred, thank you for watching!
comenting before watching. this is an amazing looking watch. it reminds me a bit of erebus but it looks better put together.
Erebus don't hold a candle to Wise.
😂
Erebus are made in SM factory and if you pay close attention you can see where Jody and Steven took their inspirations from. Its not bad but its not for me.. Wise have a distinctive and original design language.. If you are an Erebus fan, sorry didnt mean to upset you.
the only good thing to come out of Australia
Look Jim Jeffries up ❤️
Nice watch overall. The hands have Ming vibes.
Loved reviewing it! Thank you for watching!
That mirror dial is really something else 😮
Hi, great collection, i was wondering about the Perpetual? Do they still currently make watches?
Hello and thank you! As far as I’m aware they’re still in business.
A weird (not in a bad way though) flieger/field watch, by a weird (in a totally good way!) microbrand. All this in a weird (in an always(!) bad dentist way) review. Not weird when a Romanian is reviewing a New Zealand's product, as the only common thing these two have is ...just weird, (for me) in the most pleasant and true way i can think of!!!!! Let's keep this world, that weird! 😜😂
Not a creeeeep, but a weeiiirdoooo, what the hell am I doing heeeere?…
You sound good for being at the dentist. 😎 Like the look of this watch, like the white dial and the dial lume. Thank.. have bookmarked the website.
Thank you! The white variant of this particular dial looks indeed amazing and I just love the black accents on the hands!
Good review, eager to see it in the flesh.
Thank you, that sounds very promising!
Glad to see you covering Draken. I've owned one for over a year and just wore it yesterday which is pretty funny considering your latest upload. Thanks Toni.
Thank you, Fred! You need to start wearing a Patek Philippe!
Lol😂@@watchyawant
Another great review. Love the reference to the classic movie ;) And this is my kind of watch, although... as it's rather on the "simple and utilitarian" side I find it a little too thick and unnecessarily bulky. If it was a little slimmer, I would then buy the "crown" on the other side vibe as built for motorcyclists ;) I like the effort not to compromise the clean design with the power reserve. And I do see the value for money :)
Thank you, Bart! I believe a great deal of bulk went into creating that sloped rehault, plus the caseback is quite thick too. Thank you for watching!
Apologies for the slurring, blame the bloody dentist!
Another great review Mario but to me, a very boring, almost generic watch. The Horizon Nemo still smashes it for individuality in design, with a Swiss movement and is cheaper. It’s definitely not for me this one. It’s a bit like Erebus so far. A watch brand of many identities and lacking in its own
Thank you for the appreciation! While I agree Horizon Nemo is in a league of its own, that watch cost $700 on KS. This one on KS was little over half that. As for its design, I can totally understand it's rather divisive, but I don't see it as derrivative as Erebus. To me quality-wise it's on par with the Tuseno Shellback with the downside of not having a Swiss movement (incidentally I rate equally Miyota 9 and Sellita SW200).
I got mine on eBay from a guy that got it on kickstarter 6 months back or so. I wore it for 3 months straight when I got it and neglected all my other watches. It’s good. Forget the second tool-less adjustable clasp. Just use the traditional one.
Great real world feedback, thank you for sharing!
No Problem. Now, if you can review the Benrus Ultra Deep! So little info out there.
Sharp watch, great timeless and clean design 👌
Nice looking watch
Just received my Nadir Vespera (black) ... even more amazing in person! Cheers!
Congratulations and wear it in good health!
Unfortunately (or not?) NOT the watch i want. Thanks anyway for the great review mate, be well, cheers. PS Don't know why, but even by the thumbnail i got some Nodus vibes here...
its a great watch, I love mine.
Pff, now I have to go and exceed my watch buying budget for this year again cuz I NEEED this one. Thanks a lot! 🤣
Haha, you're welcome, what can I say?!... 😂
Not bad but not great and certainly overpriced.
The KS price was very good, that's how my friend bought it. I would argue that a fair price is the one a customer is willing to pay. I would argue this is way better than the similarly priced Siko SRPE39 (now THAT is overpriced!)
UPDATE: The 10% discount for subscribers to Belhamel's newsletter is still active, but it's not prominently displayed, so, if you want to take advantage of it, you need to start digging. 🙂
Maybe I am spoiled but for this amount I expect at least selita movement.
Fair point, especially when many of the competitors do.
Belhamel means something like a 'rowdy rascal' in Dutch. No idea if there is a connection. In terms of sturdy construction and hardness coating, and the tool watch aesthetics, this seems to fit the bill. However, it is very difficult to shake off the first impression of this design which is just very highly generic among peers. It would be seriously challenging to name a truly memorable aspect about its design beyond the name. That does not make it a bad or unattractive watch, but one that needs to trade solely on convincing one that they did the best job possible at executing this design approach. I always look for design flair and identity in my watches, so it's clearly not for me. Listening to you they may have come close to perfection in execution though, which may prove enough for others who are into the minutiae of this category of tool watch.
To me, while not as original as the true outliers, this design is so balanced and consistent that I don't mind it.
Lol, what? This watch is a beauty! I'm personally rather tired of all the desperate attempts to make a design look "unique." Everything has pretty much already been done. It's currently just one weird variation to 1 up another weird variation. I much prefer an aesthetically simple design over some of the recent ones I've seen, where they're competing to have the most gimmicky design. This one, with its orange and light blue color accents, hour markers, and symmetric design, actually looks quite distinctive in an understated way, if I'm being honest. I think the design is meant to cater to a larger crowd as opposed to the super niche watch enthusiasts you seem to refer to. There's a reason why the very simple designs of the Submariners, Seamasters, Speedys, etc., are still on top and relevant, they're timeless. Why shouldn't smaller brands try their hand at timeless designs too, especially when they offer something different from the more famous designs? Nah, I actually find this one memorable because it does "simplicity" so well. That being said, I wish the watch were larger, at 43mm, because I have a super large wrist. I'd also have preferred a rubber strap over a bracelet, although the bracelet does look gorgeous. This watch is just perfect for a rubber strap and it's weird they haven't at least offered it as an option. The other thing I might have an issue with is the second hand's arrowhead. Personally, I would've liked it better if it had a circular shape, but that's subjective. I'm definitely buying this, just need to ask the wife for permission first 😂
Well, hello and welcome to my channel! Apologies if we've interacted before, but this comment really pops! I, strangely, resonate with both of your reasonings, and that's the beauty of this hobby, isn't it? Hope the wife will be understanding 😂
@@watchyawant hahaha we’ll see, better to ask forgiveness later than permission first 😝
@@harrybarry5224 I feel that if that is how you feel about this type of design, you'll have plenty a choice, most devoid of any gimmicks. That's why to me it doesn't stand out. Nonetheless, out of all of that choice this could be the best of the much for you. Personally, I think that a new brand should bring something distinctive to the table, otherwise I don't see the incentive to choose them over any others. One feature that can still make a difference because the marketplace has been slow to adopt it more broadly, is the hardness coating (here) or steel hardening. You certainly won't find that on all alternatives with very similar designs. I will also readily admit that since I'm not that much into the average lumed applied indices with rotating bezel and colour accent typoe of watches, these do tend to blend into each other all too easily. If this is your style, more subtle differences are more likely to make it stand out anyway. To me the category doesn't tend to be a most attractive in the first place, so I also get less hung up on the small differences. And hey, I still called it attractive! But yes, for me uniqueness does tend to be the biggest selling point in any watch just as it is also likely to be one of the quickest routes to discarding when it doesn't appeal.
Thanks Toni. Another watch in my wheelhouse here. Good specs and dial color with a low profile bezel.
Thank you, Fred, this is truly a diver for you, as few of them look as good on a strap.

It’s great to see the boundary pushing designs and approaches offered by a number of micro/independent watch brands. Thanks for highlighting these four brands; some of them are familiar while others are new to me. There is such variety available.
Thank you, it means a lot to me to see the scope of this channel is being appreciated!
👍👍
A very fine selection. I have already embraced the endeavours of 47Zero, Bauche, and Makina, though as of yet only own a Makina. Isotope hasn't really been playing to my aesthetic preferences, and though this watch impresses me technically, I'm not sure it would be for me either. Still, let's celebrate the originality. Examples like Vitreum, Straum, and Havaan Tuvali flashing by at the end also are very much worth our attention. Vitreum is really reaching beyond a price point where I'm comfortable, but I really appreciate their highly original enamel work. I think they rival and sometimes exceed the lauded anOrdain.
Unfortunately I'm on a very strict schedule, as this was really a bonus video that I managed to squeeze in along all the reviews coming up, otherwise these 4 watches would have been 5... Vitreum's Kasper couldn't send me the photos I would've needed, so I had to cut the Scandinavian brand from the video...
The Makina Mephisto is my cup of tea
Haha, if I was to judge based on your profile photo whic one's your favourite, that's precisely the watch I'd have picked! Thank you for the support, it means a lot!
Four beautiful examples. I'm really enjoying how diverse your content is within the same sphere.

Your RUclips channel has quickly become the best source of information for microbrands. Keep up the good work.
Wow, this makes my heart sing, thank you so much!

Wow...Makina and 47 Zero have my attention and then some. Thanks Toni...always like seeing new and unique designs under your auspices.
