    I loved thos video! Personally I just wish they could make more diverse personalities and fashion and such for characters. And add the male leads narrative in the screen since they're usually just used as fan service/ wish fulfilment usually especially for romance. Idk. This doesn't apply to all k-drama.

    You should continue watching dear. Me too felt the same way. I dont like the slow pacing dramas. But this one is an exemption. As the episodes goes by it gets more exciting and romantic. I think the director did the slow pacing on purpose so audience will see the growth of each character and their relationship as well. ❤❤❤ i watched it many times..

    Good review. I don’t watch a lot of Kdramas but was aware of different styles of speech. Not something Americans are aware of but it exists in many languages. I agree that there could have been a way to subtlety explain Korean culture so the viewers were aware - even a voice over works.

    Whoever wrote this script was either high or had alzheimer... the story didn't make sense at all.. normally you have contradictions in the storyline within episodes, but in this series events contradict each other within episodes... its extremely poorly written. And can someone explain how the title related to the series ?!? Happiness ?!?

    For me, this was simply one of the greatest and most subtly depicted fictional love stories I have ever seen. Great, because it avoids cliche and shows love in its purest form. As every other character close to Ji-An and Dong-Hoon observes during the series (including the grandma and Dong Hoon’s own wife), theirs is a special and precious connection. It is beyond words and conventional descriptions. Soul mates? Yes, but clearly more than that I think. This was ultimately an intensely beautiful and respectful love between a man and a woman. Admittedly, its overt expression was repressed due to the age gap, the conservative nature of Korean society and Dong Hoon’s own admirable care for doing the right thing by Ji-An. But it was that repression and need, especially by Dong Hoon, to observe social boundaries, that ultimately gave it its dramatic power, in my view. Ever the stoic and the man who put duty before temptation, Dong Hoon is liberated only in the last episode. The production suggests as much in the transformed light and tone and his own almost beatific smile. While not said openly, it seems clear his marriage is finally over. As for Ji-An, she is no longer the lost and desperate fringe-dweller dependent on him. They now meet as equals. And the look of unrestrained happiness on Dong Hoon’s face upon seeing her again tells you a real adult relationship is possible. She has a new self-respect and remains as drawn to him as she always was, but now from an equal standing. I recalled what I see as the most penetrating observation of Dong Hoon in the entire series. It was during his visit to his Buddhist monk friend. The wise monk urges him to stop living for everybody else and seek out his own happiness. After that, Dong Hoon’s grim, perpetually self-restrained stoicism starts to crack. The breakdown scene in episode 16 is when the edifice finally collapses. And, no, I don’t think the tears were for his estranged wife. That marriage had been dead for some time. The tears were for the loss of Ji-An, the person who saved his life (by his own admission) and who had understood him more than anyone else in his life. This is why their chance meeting was so beautiful and so full of possibility. As to why there is so much disagreement among fans of the show about the nature of the central characters’ relationship, my guess is that is a reflection of different perspectives among its creators. I think the relationship is written as one between platonic soulmates, but it is directed and scored as a romance. The long soulful looks, the emotional punch of the brilliant songs and incidental music, the running to each other are all indications of something much more than friendship. But that inherent tension about the indefinable nature of their love is also what keeps you watching. This was an impeccably written, sensitively directed, exquisitely acted TV drama. It’s certainly the best Korean drama I’ve seen and perhaps the best television drama full stop - one full of intensely moving and life-affirming insights into the power of love, human connection, community and the nature of happiness. On a final note, the sudden death late last year of Lee Sun-Kyung, who played Dong Hoon, was such a tragedy. He was a nuanced, selfless and brilliant actor. More than anything, in my view, it was his on-screen chemistry and unspoken dance of the soul with the beautiful and charismatic IU that made My Mister such an unforgettable experience

    I saw all news from the time the drama was announced, who would be the leads and first script reading. But the age difference and seemingly the depression I saw from the posters, thru me off for a long time. Until I finally gave it a change after 3 years of it's debut. Boy boy boy... i have no words for it!!! it's the only drama I saw again, full several times after! And I can't put any other drama on it's level even till now! "My liberation Notes" is great too, I I see the same quality of production, but still "My Mister" can't be surpassed. And as for the leads..i already knew Lee Sung hyun was a star, but IU really solidified her place as a top actress with this drama. To any one who hasn't yet watched it, you are missing something great!!

    To judge this by one episode is a joke. You robbed yourself and others who listened to you, of a fucking awesome show. I did the same thing to myself by judging Goblin the same way, but i put my initial feelings aside and decided to watch the 1st 4 episodes no matter what before deciding. And that was the right decision. Goblin is now one of my favorites. Vincenzo is the exact same way. The rest of the show has so much character growth and development you are missing out on that you can't possibly get from watching even the 1st quarter of the show. If you're going to trash it based off the 1st episode alone, then you're just dumb.

      Just a summary of what i thought I saw after the end credit (group photo shot). It cuts back to the same scene where younger Jang Geu Rae was at a funeral with his mom crying at the background. Which flashed back afew times throughout the drama. In the actual story he was at his dads funeral and when he walked out ,someone rushed passed him, briefly knocking on his shoulder. That guy was Mr Oh and he rushed over after learning the death of his intern Eun Ji. Which was at the same location as Jang Geu Rae’s dad funeral. And I think this end credit was just to show Mr Oh had coincidentally crossed path with Jang Geu Rae much earlier before they met as colleagues at One international. So… what I thought I saw and misinterpreted was that the Jang Geu Rae family funeral was actually for Eun Ji and not his dad. Although though out the show, the narrator tells us that Jang Geu Rae’s dad passed away when he was younger, the multiple flash back of the funeral was not his dad’s. It was Eun Ji’s. And Eun Ji is somewhat related to Jang Geu Rae and his family (sister might be). If they actually go with this theory, Eun Ji was actually Jang Geu Rae’s connection 🤯. Eun Ji’s death was I think suicide related to Director Choi and Mr Oh. Due to her passing.. Director Choi didn’t want any responsibility to Eun Ji’s death but (I made up this theory) he made a promise to Jang Geu Rae’s mom that if she needed any help, he would help her. Hence when Jang Geu Rae, her youngest son? Was looking for a job, Director Choi helped her and get Jang Geu Rae into the company. That was Jang Geu Reu’s family connection to the Director. 😳 What do you think of this crazy theory?

    Your preconcepts of Lee Jong Suk ruined this for you. THe show is good, its so different from American Shows. It starts slow and you don't know what is truly going on for a few episodes and all the other characters are so diverse and entertaining. They are not bland, they have to develop and when they do they are all very entertaining or tragic and there is much romance TRYING SO HARD to happen. If you were really vested in the show you might appreciate their almost ritualistic devotion to books in a digital age, so much so that you might realize that the actual name of the show is "Romance Is A Bonus Book" THey all fall in love with publishing and the books that they create. If you cannot have empathy with that then you will miss much of the humor.

    To be fair the male lead should take some responsibility for his wife having an affair. He would never open up to her, and excluded her from his day to day life, preferring to spend time with his mum and brothers, and drinking with his football friends. She felt she was living alone.

    what the fuck are u talking about....she worked 4/7 years to get where she is at the show...they do a time skip at the first few episodes...also she got top employe in 2 seperate years out of those ... the show establishes some things about the main characters early on like for example how u said that she can speak 4 languanges or that she likes music. that doesnt mean that they need to show it again and again just to prove it... like the male lead likes extreme sports but they mention it only once again..they dont have to show him do extreme sports all show long for u to get it.... the show potrays a smart and beautifull woman with a lot of skills getting ahead in her work life and also falling in love..and as for the main lead u say it came out of nowhere that he fell in love again but again THE SHOW DOES A FUCKING TIME SKIP .... so this atraction is build over time and not instantly ...just because the show skipped some interactions between them doesnt mean they didnt see each other at all for those years she was working there....what you want would have made the show like twice as long and it would have been boring....i guess i can forgive u cause u only watched the first 4 episodes so you havent grasped whats happening yet but still you came in with a wrong mindset and ready to judge everything that is slitgly wrong in your oppinion with the show....you can literally nitpick in every show in the planet and argue its bad...this is is fucking amazing...a bit of a slow start but it gets so much better for real.....the episode of the 100th year anniversary made me cry like a bitch

    I am currently watching this drama, and it is a hard watch for me because the female lead is so boring. I agree with you without the male lead, Jisoo's character is so uninteresting. I would not have been drawn to it but Jung Hae-in, is one of my favorite Korean male actors, and so yes,, I had to go peek. He caught my eye in "Something in the Rain, and One Spring Night". He's such a talented actor. I will continue watching as this gives some history of SK's turbulent times. Thank you for your review, it has been helpful.

    So far Ive watched 7 episodes and Im wonder if its worth continuing. The reviews that are very positive are 95% from ppl that can relate to it because they work/worked in a similar environment. In the beginning of the show so much is happening and every 5 minutes could completely change everything. Now theres not much happening except ppl abusing their position, corruption, unfair treatment of women and subordinates and so on... Sure realism is great and even in other countries powerabuse/fear culture happens within big companies.. but how is that fun to watch? It's pretty frustrating tbh.. Apart from office drama is anything big going to happen in the show? Is it going to elevate your morale or just deflect the drama in these types of working environments?

    Hey Marie, I finally found the K-drama where the Second Lead gets the Protagonist (Our female lead )not the first Lead !!! It is a really really amazing movie! It's called "PAST LIVES". But would one consider it a K-drama ? It's an American movie but with Korean cast and director (Mostly Korean-American), and there's white character too. It's in both English and Korean. It felt very Korean at times but then it doesn't too. I don't know. But I Loved This Movie!!!! ❤

    I don’t understand how Pachinko could be K drama. It’s not made by Koreans and it’s not made for Koreans. So I wish people would stop trying to fit it into the K drama mold because it is not that. I also think there are certain Korean movies That don’t fit into a K drama mold because my feeling about K dramas is that they are melodramatic and full of tropes. Even the best drama I’ve ever seen which, in my opinion is Mr. sunshine has all those tropes! But the movies don’t. And if you go into one of those movies, hoping for a kid drama, you can be sadly disappointed. This is just my two cents.😂

    • @MarieMaurerKdramaReview
      @MarieMaurerKdramaReview 7 месяцев назад

      I have learnt more about Pachinko since this video and would agree it's not a kdrama. But I'm still undecided about what is an isn't a kdrama. I'm not sure if I like using tropes and cliché as a qualifier because trends change and I think it would be a mistake to stop calling korean TV shows kdramas if the tropes and standard storyline change with time and viewer taste. Hopefully that makes sense. Thank you for sharing your thoughts 💕

      Actually, I do agree with you. If it’s made by Koreans and for Koreans, then of course it can be called K drama. But my love for them embraces the troops, although I am branching out and watching some of the horror and thriller K dramas, that don’t always have them, and even don’t have romance. It’s been educational for me! By the way, I’m fairly new to kid drama, and I love your videos, particularly because sometimes I feel so all alone since my friends don’t watch them.
