This is a wonderful drama! Beautifully orchestrated and all the sadness, pain, and sorrow that comes with past lives was brilliantly showcased. The scene where Ju-won missed her mom so much that she hallucinated hugging her mom. I thought that was sooo beautiful and so sad. I literally cried watching that part. But there are many other moments too that I adore in this show. 11/10 for me.
I concur! It was powerful. And I didn’t expect to go on an emotional roller coaster with any more shows. Just wanted to kill time on a Friday night but instead found my number 1 show of the year.
See you in my 19th life exceeds my expectations too! :D I love the color palette and the scene transitions when they show us her previous lives. The child actors are doing such a good job and happy to see them having a lot of screentime.
@@MarieMaurerKdramaReview I hope the mystery plot that lingers will be well executed and keep the storyplot coherent :) ~Anyway, good luck with your English teaching course!
I´ll watch Shin Hye Sun in anything. I agree that she excels in every role she plays. Fortunately, this series is really good overall. One of the best I've watched so far this year. I think I would rank it behind only My Perfect Stranger and, perhaps, A Time Called You.
Revisting this review to commemorate it being the one I first encountered your channel. Sooo many statements in here much bigger than any tv show that would resonate with me. Instant subscription back then (which is super rare for me) and the rest is history (plus lots of catching up with your other content :-p ). That being said and taking inspiration from your final words on the show ("wishing to have more time...") I have yet to find time to finally start watching SYIM19L 😢😅
Does anyone know why she has no problem reconnecting with her niece right away from a previous life and not her sister and the male lead? I don't know if I missed something important.😂 I'm really loving this Kdrama's storyline. It's a fresh take on the reincarnation trope.
I do remember a conversation the FL had with her neice about this... if I remember correctly the FL said she doesn't usually get reborn so quickly that her past life loved ones are still alive so when she does she tries not to connect with them. Soooo maybe because her niece is from 2 lives again she feels that it's OK? I'm not totally sure, maybe someone else can chime in and help haha
Yes it was addressed in the later episodes. Ban Ji-eaum actually visited her previous mother and sister throughout her 19th childhood while simultaneously stalking Seo-ha lol. Making herself known to people from her past isn’t something she tends to do after reincarnation but these latest lives were “special”.
Hey Marie! As always I enjoyed watching your review. I have watched 9 episodes till now and I didn’t love this drama as much as I thought I would. Like you said, it has great production value and every scene looks like a painting but the characters are just not doing it for me 😢. I don’t strongly dislike anybody but I just cannot connect to anyone other than the neice lady. I am also not enjoying the male leads performance, especially in emotional scenes, idk why tho because I did like him in itaewon class and my name. I also don’t buy into the main romance yet (which is bad because only 3 episodes are left now ☹️) I’ll still continue watching the show because it’s a fresh concept and I’m curious about her first life but i don’t think I’ll remember it for too long.
I was hoping the chemistry btw our leads would improve as the show went on but it hasnt in my opinion and its super disappointing. I feel the same way you do where all the characters are likeable enough but I still havent strongly attached to any of them :/
I have finished the drama and it has become one of my favs. I know there are a lot of plot holes and unnecessary characters, and it suffered from bad writing towards the end (I heard from webtoon readers that the stepmom wasn't even a character in the manhwa, I honestly don't know why they added her in the drama since she was completely unnecessary and added nothing significant to the story. and juwon's mom knowing who was behind the accident but staying silent about it made no sense to me). Some of the conflicts were also resolved way too easily and were anticlimactic, but I just loved the characters, their relationships, the chemistry, the cinematography, and the osts too much that I was able to overlook most of the problems within the story and still put it on my fav dramas. Also I think I'm the only one who felt their chemistry off the bat 😭 I loved the main leads together, and it's not like I'm being biased or anything. I have not read the webtoon nor watched any of the main lead's other projects before this (yes I haven't watched itaewon class nor Mr queen yet, don't come for me). This was my first drama with them and I absolutely fell in love with their pairing. Overall I really loved the drama. It isn't perfect, it was messy in some parts and had a lot of flaws, but is still a very enjoyable watch and there was something about it that comforted me so much. Definitely my kind of drama and one of my favs. (Apologies if i have made some grammar mistakes)
I really enjoyed the drama for the concept and the amazing visuals and acting. Its one I will recommend in the future, but I was disappointed with the chemistry between the leads throughout the series... happy you enjoyed their chemistry tho! Was this your first time seeing these actors in general? I can recommend good dramas that they star in if thats the case ^_^
@@MarieMaurerKdramaReview I've seen a few of their works before but only supporting roles. For ahn bohyun, I've seen him in descendants of the sun but I didn't even know that that was him when I was still watching it. For shin haesun, I've seen her in oh my ghost and legend of the blue sea, again only supporting roles. I haven't seen any of their other works where they have a major role.
@@elle621 for Ahn Bohyun I'd recommend Iteawon Class (you get to see him flex his 'villian' acting skills), and 'My Name'. My Name is an adult action revenge story so just be aware of its graphic nature if your going to give it a try- very good tho! If you want to see him in another romance then I'd recommend 'Yumi's Cells' where he plays the male lead love interests. It's a very quirky drama, unlike anything else iv seen. As for Shin Hye-Sun, '30 but 17' is a must watch! She is also incredible in 'Angel's last mission love'. Other people would probably recommend 'Mr. QUEEN' but I honestly had problems with the subliminal problematic messages in the drama 😔. Hope you I can help you find your next favorite!
@@MarieMaurerKdramaReview thanks for the recommendations! I'll probably watch itaewon class and angel's last mission. I've seen so many anh bohyun villain edits on TikTok which got me intrigued lmao, I also loved the whole itaewon crew when I watched youth mt so I'm looking forward to starting it. For my name, I already got spoiled by the ending so idk if I'll give it a go 😭 for angel's last mission, I've seen so many great reviews on it so I really want to see what the hype is all about. Thanks again for these wonderful recs!
@@elle621 if your wanting to hear more of my opinions on them I'm pretty sure I have reviews for all of them lol. Please let me know what you think of Iteawon Class 😁 it's a super special drama for me as I watched it week to week with my parents and we made a big movie night event every time 🥰
To be honest, I am not really feeling the main couple. I find Jieum to be overly pushy, and Seoha is too emotionally damaged after the accident. I don't know why people don't go to a psychiatrist. I am extremely invested in the second couple though. Chowon is adorable and just the right amount of pushy, and Doyoon is a coconut (hard on the outside and soft on the inside) just waiting to crack.
I feel it could be a socio-cultural reason why he might not have seen a psychiatrist or therapy in general. As far as I understand it, Asian countries *in general* still frown and feel shame around mental health.
Finally a drama to bring me out of my slump! I ❤❤❤ a past life trope and Shin Hye Sun is amazing. I love the male lead actor too. Unrelated question - are you planning on teaching TEFL in the US or abroad? Just wondering because I had an opportunity to do that as a professor in Korea so if travel interests you, that is something you could look into!
Yes I am very interested in teaching English both in Canada (I'm Canadian 🇨🇦) and abroad... ideally in Korea for 6 months - year. I know the that most employers are looking for the TEFL not the TESL that I'm competing this summer but I figured I'd get a bit of related education while I'm still working towards my degree as the TESL fulfills some of my upper level requirements for my degree. I'd love to hear a bit more about your experience if your up for sharing 😊
I will definitely keep watching your awesome review on See You in my 19th life & the webtoon adaptation itself. I’ve already seen all 8 episodes. Ep 7 & 8 has slowly revealed that Seo-Ha & Ji-eum seems to have a connection in their 1st lives. I totally agree w/ you about your comments on Shin Hae-Sun as an actress. I’m a huge fan of Hae-Sun. She’s not only pretty, talented but also well-mannered & humble w/c makes her a gem. It’s phenomenal from the actors/ actress, storyline down to the production, OST & BGM. 💞💓💃🎥
For me, this is a show , unfortunately, where the sum is lower than the individul parts. Shin Hye Sun is an amazing actress (hell, she made me cry just by standing alone in the street lol), but also her "niece" (a.k.a Court Lady Choi) is there. Their scenes together are something to be cherished. Please let someone write a play where these two just sit and talk. The chemistry between the sisters is the strongest element of show IMO, and their relationship is what I look for the most. The show has some amazingly high emotional scenes that made me cry. However, despite all that, it is not hitting high notes with me, because I don't see any chemistry between the FL & ML. Their scenes together are not exciting, and they are not hitting me emotionally, apart maybe once or twice. So, in conclusion, I find the show very watchable and decent (I certainly will finish it), but not great. Finally, I want to give big shout the kid actress playing her young version in the 19th life.
I can understand! I really hope the FL and MLs chemistry improves as the series goes on I think once the ML develops stronger feelings maybe we will get some more swoon worthy moments. I think it's hard to make the chemistry really good when 1 party keeps rejecting the other
That last episode was very sad at the beginning. Great series! I loved it. All the characters were great
