wow, great video, a godsend, there just are not many videos explaining metal mixing in such a basic way. I have been using Reaper for like 5 years. I have SD3 to avoid less programming of drums etc. I am just wondering if my stock plugins are enough? This helps me a lot as a 48 year old guitarist/composer trying to be a home producer. I really want to get good at mixing and mastering. Thanks so much!

How do you communicate this with clients? What I mean is this is now gating into arrangement territory, and I feel even if it sounds good, the band might not like me adding violins and synths to their songs. Hell judging by my clients, the drummers would probably hit me up right away when they hear some shakers they never played.

Just for the sake of a test, next time render compressed audio and see that all you explanations about ATTACK is wrong. Compressor starts working instantly, attack time just setting the speed with wich compressor will decrease volume to it's final gein reduction value, same as with release, after compressor comes to the max gain reduction after attack it starts coming back up volume but in speed which provided in release tiime. so lets say you have 10 db signal, you've set compressor to 4:1 ration, treshold - 6, attack - 100ms and release 50ms: in such case compressor will be activated on transient and will start ducking signal from 10 db to 5 in 100ms, after that it will instantly start bringing it back in 50ms. Stop telling people about PASSING INITIAL TRANSIENT AND START WORKING AFTER Nms ATTACK TIME
