Restoring a great area back to it's original 1000 years of rule of Byzantium would create a Greek ball of power that would have control over the straights and most of the northern east mediterranean sea, which the allies wouldn't want to see happening. Imagine Greeks being double their today's size, owning all those lands they would feel deeply rooted in, does it sound good? How would it compare to today's situation against unreliable modern Turkey though?
