Welcome to the Lion Lawn - A channel dedicated to my lawn renovation attempting to use only Li-Ion Powered tools.
Scarifying and getting rid of runners
I ran the scarifier over the lawn after noticing a few runners through the lawn. However, it soon became evident I had more than just a few to contend with.

Lawn Update PGR Application (Primo Maxx)
As you’ve found out that scarifier is useless mate.Get yourself a proper scarifier with blades.I’m running a cox petrol and it eats my kikuyu and couch for breakfast..Cox or predator the same thing pretty much.
Pgr asap
My runners tangle up in the scarifier, any tips?
@@leedawg5208 What scarifier are you using? If you have the ability to buy/hire/borrow a verticutter, I'd start there for sure. They are designed to cut vertically, slicing through the runners.
@@thelionlawn I have the Ryobi one you had up on the wall in your shed. Shall have a look into the verticutter. Cheers
@leedawg5208 The Ryobi is good, but can definitely get tangled. One of the downfalls of battery gear, they're just not as grunty as petrol stuff. Good luck with it, hopefully you can find one to use. 🤙
Another good video. Just need to equalise the volume of your music to commentary 😊
@@1972prem Thanks mate - Will focus on that for next vid. 🤙 Appreciate the feedback.
You got shares with plant doctor mate? Bet they love you.Great work!!!
@@Hahehhwgajshah72726.. Ha! I wish... No shares, they're just one of those products that work as described. Lol.
Good spot for the pool.
@@AJ-Lawn Wasn't sure on installing a pool fence for 3 - 4 months of the year use, considering the camper trailer lives there the rest of the year, but it worked out alright 👍
Looking good man! Really need to work out my next steps for liquid ferts
Same here. All battery 💪🏻
Great video! i have a question, I live in a northern region where temperatures can drop as low as -20°C. I was wondering if this device is suitable for outdoor use in such cold conditions, or if there are any precautions I should take to protect it from the extreme cold. Thanks!
G'day - Yikes, -20!! That sounds unpleasant. Haha. I certainly don't get any temps even remotely close to that here, so i've not experienced it myself. However, LinkTap have a section on their website that covers off on winterizing the equipment in temps that drop below -1, and that includes removing them from use. So unfortunately i'd suggest you'd have to remove them, take the batteries out, and store them inside during those sort of cold months. Have a look at www.link-tap.com/ and check the FAQ section for more info. Hope that helps! 🤙🤙

What's up mate. Your season is starting while mine is ending here in the States. Enjoy the season.
@@Striperman Hey Legend - good to hear from you! Hopefully your season was good - your insta photos are looking excellent. 🤙
@@thelionlawn Thank you. It was a good season even with the lack of rain here the last 3 and a half months. I know you know what that is like. Looking forward to your videos.
Will this work with 18V battery powered trimmer?
Hi mate, when I got mine, the 36v was the only Ryobi that had been tested and confirmed. I'm not sure if they've got a collar for the 18v yet or not. Perhaps have a look at the Yard Empire website and get in touch with them to confirm if they've had anyone test the 18v? Best of luck. 👍
Hopefully the rain and the heat we are getting will help it come back faster.
Here's hoping! Would like to have it looking shmick by Christmas. Fingers crossed!
That cicada racket made this video unwatchable.Geez.Watch your videos perhaps in future before you post mate.I couldn’t watch it..Videos like this with the noise of those bloody things or ones with morons playing shit music and load as I switch off.Look forward to seeing the next better one.👍
@@Hahehhwgajshah72726.. Thanks for the feedback mate - unfortunately I had already filtered a chunk of their song out. They were in full swing today, that's for sure.
I've never used one, but you could try a corded mower to see how it goes.
That Ryobi gear is an absolute embarrassment...

@@theaussielawn Thanks legend 🤙 I didn't really know what to expect with it, but I'm stoked!
@ your probably looking at a 1990-1993 model too btw. Its had a new donor motor as green chassis had black top and gray chassis has the orange top motors . Both green / black and grey orange are early 90’s mowers
@theaussielawn Ah sweet. Thanks mate, I tried to search on the part numbers I could find for it, and all I came up with was a super vague "1978 - 1988" for the numbers I found. It would make sense it's a bit of a Frankenstein, given where I found it. 🤣

Quality petrol every day of the week with all garden gear for me.Electric has a place.Just not my place.
@@Hahehhwgajshah72726.. Yeah for sure, it's not for everyone and I get that. 👍
They certainly are no Scott Bonnar.Geez we are making some over priced rubbish world wide these days mate.Just use it mate don’t bother wasting your time or money fixing it.Glad you’re happy with it mate.Im a quality petrol garden gear through and through.I have subscribed.👍👍
@@Hahehhwgajshah72726.. Appreciate it mate! And yeah I'm with you, the need for mass production has overpowered the desire for quality workmanship in most industries, I'm afraid. The companies who still make quality products that last, are being swallowed up by the "use, abuse and replace" movement.
Gday mate. What is the model number of that victor please?
@@1972prem Hey mate, its an AE-054 Utility. According to the only identifier I could find. When I googled that, that's the model that popped up, so I assume that's the correct numbers. 🤙
Hey mate..How u finding your scarifier..mine seems to be cutting out even when i have the them pulled in all the way..its like i have to let them off & pull them in again
@@hermits-cabin8334 Yeah I've noticed mine doesn't like being loaded up any more than a basic amount. So if it's spinning away and comes to a section that is particularly thick, it'll cut out, then come back on, and sort of stutter its way through. On normal running though it's fine. Mine just seems to not like a sudden load-up when it's already running.
@@thelionlawn Mine never used to do that though..I have only just started noticing it..guess its back to bunnings..warranty
@hermits-cabin8334 Yeah 100% worth getting changed over. The Ryobi warranty process is so easy. If you have the 18v one, I'd angle to swap it (even with a bit of extra cash on top) for the 36v one.
@@thelionlawn everything i have is 18v mate..I cant see me changing over too soon unless all my tools call it a day lol
@hermits-cabin8334 Yeah that's fair enough. Once you get into a specific system it's hard to justify swapping for just one tool. Good luck with the warranty, hopefully the replacement works like it should!
Great video mate can’t wait to see the results 👍👍
@@zacj63 Thanks legend 🤙
The old toe cutter! You wouldn't be able to do that with a battery mower.
@@shaneallen4042 Definitely not... Hopefully one day, but for the time being, that little thing earned its keep!
Great vid, looking for a similar mower for renovations .The Honda doesn’t go low enough. Just moved over to plant doctor products do you water it in after your application.
G'day mate - the struggle is real with getting some of the mowers low enough, that's for sure. Some of the Masport mowers drop down quite low though, so give them a look if you need something that can do it all from start to finish. 👌. A lot of the Plant Dr stuff can sit on the leaf, but I usually give it a water, because I only apply it with around 8 - 10 litres in my sprayer, so a quick hit with the irrigation afterwards is perfect. But, I think they recommend if you use somewhere around 15 litres per 100m2, you wouldn't need to water too much in. 🤙
Thanks mate. My lawn mower blade electric has broken and its 2 yrs old. Im wondering if they will take it. I do see on websites they dont take broken blades
@@Martty_4 Yeah I'd say blades fall under the "consumable" category. Unless it broke super weirdly due to some fault? If it's just through wear and tear you might not have much luck.
@thelionlawn thanks mate for replying ✌
the ego handle bar just don't look right on such expensive equipment. I personally willing to pay extra for electrical but those handles just looks out of place. Cobra Fortis have a similar system but not available in Australia
@@mkii9110 It's a weird position - because I think the Liberty handles are underwhelming, and the Stirling's look out of place. There had to be a happy medium somewhere they could have used.
just got this thing. blow the shit into a pile then vacuum it up. heaps easier and saves battery
@@Ryanm13988 For sure mate, definitely the better option than trying to vacuum like a Muppet like I was... I've since replaced it with just a good Jet Blower, and haven't missed the vac function. But definitely a place for the blower vac combo. 🤙
Nice Vid! In my Country theres a Allet Saler which sells a Stirling 51cm (a Demo Model) incl the 5ah Batterie for "€4500" which is expensive anyway but i have a Atco Balmoral 20sk with 2 Cartridges in which i can use this one on the Stirling 🤔 So lets see on Monday if i will buy them or not 😅 (have to sell the Balmoral other whise im solo again says my wife 😂)
@@grayfox87kurt26 Haha! Good luck, legend. Fingers crossed for a new mower AND continued happy marriage! 🤣
wondering if this would be able to be attached to just the 'expandit extender (to save money and waste for buying an expandit attachment
I'm not sure, to be honest. Might be worth a look to see if the end of the extender has the capability to fit the correct collar?
Great review.
Thanks Legend 🤙
Wish Dewalt had rotary scissors attachment
I'd like to see more brands bring rotary scissors into their lines, for sure. It's such a great tool for edging.
Depends what Bunnings staff member you get. Some are great, some aren't so great.
True. Same can be said of most retailers though I suppose. The customer service at Bunnings when you're trying to find something is usually garbage, lol. When they're trapped behind the trade desk and can't run off, they've been pleasant and helpful enough 😄
Thanks for the demo mate. Really helpful.
Thanks Legend, glad to be of some help! 🤙
Ryobi could tell why the reel model doesnt seem to be available on the northern hemisphere.☹️
They were only available for a short run here, too. Either they weren't a good seller, or there's something else in the works I suppose?
11:59 the site safety officer enjoying the shade had me 🤣
He's a good helper!
LinkTap support is amazing as well and they stand behind their product... I was >2 years and mine got corroded from water inside and they just sent me out a brand new one np.
Nice video 😊 I have some relatively tight areas to manoeuvre around in my garden and wonder how the Sterling is like on the turns. Allett mention an UltraGlide system. Did you find it turns much easier than the Liberty?
To be honest, they both felt pretty similar in that regard. I didn't notice one being particularly harder or easier to manoeuvre.
Thanks mate. Good info. Two questions please: Your method of dealing with the lawn leaves is clearly better than the vacuum, but do you see a use case for the vacuum dealing with tighter spaces? I have leaves falling on flower beds and low hedges etc. And you otherwise sold on 36v vs 18 for garden gear? I use Ryobi 18 for power tools but leaning towards 36 for garden. Maybe even 56 volt Ego since garden will be a different battery system anyway.
Hi mate, yep 100% can see the vac being useful for other conditions, like yours, and hard surfaces (narrow paths beside houses, decks, tennis courts etc). The vac worked as intended, it was just my specific application that didn't use it to it's potential. And yeah, I think the 18v stuff is drastically underpowered and underperforming for lawn care. The wood/metal/shop/home tools are all excellent uses for 18v. But I reckon (for what my opinion is worth) 36v or more is required for mowers, edgers, hedgers etc. I'm currently considering a swap to Greenworks or Ego for the 40v (36), and 60v(56) equipment.
my question is who can afford a 6grand mower in times like this
If you can believe it, the price has increased again. It's now closer to $8,000. They've surely priced themselves out of a heap of potential customers.
Great review.
Thanks Legend 🤙
For anyone wondering the price is now $7,173 and the 10 blade cartridge is over $1000. They're kind of stepping away from the homeowner market at that price.
Wow! The price just keeps increasing!! I wonder whether it's supply/demand, and they know they'll get away with it, but I absolutely agree, that's no longer in the realm of reasonable for most home users.
@@thelionlawn mate I want one and could probably afford it but I don't think I can justify it especially once you factor in $800 for a battery and charger. Hopefully the major tool brands start to develop and compete as you mentioned yourself.
The drive roller slipping on hills is that because of wet grass or does it slip on dry grass as well?
It still slips on dry grass. Not as severe, but it does still do it. I think it's a weight (or lack of) issue.
@@thelionlawn That makes sense, I think I saw a video where the guy put a large weight on the deck to make it heavier.
Can anyone compare this to rotary scissors from EGO? Are those from EGO as durable when edging and pulling them through dirt?
You don't need to add a filter after the linktap?
Long winded video. Could have done it in half the time.
Just bought one … I feel like the corded 2400w blower is more powerful than 36v blower and vac 😓
Yeah... She's not great. I replaced mine with the 36v Jet blower jobby, and I'm absolutely stoked with that one.
Hello from across the lake or pond,😂, east coast USA,, 🤧 politics aside, SMH, great video by the way,but I’ve had my G2-S system for 5-6 years, and it has helped me from so much frustration and the chore of having to make sure my lil garden gets what it needs w/o me having to do all the physical part, In the past I was to tired or just forgot to water my plants or garden, my dear wife has a white thumb, baby could kill a cactus,,stop laughing 😂 ,, but she is trying ,but doesn’t understand the signs of a good garden,, anyway I lov her,, bk to the point,, so my setup is worth gold it’s part of my sanity, I hate taking the time to grow from seed and it dies, I’m planning to get my parents house setup with it, if she wants it, ( it might be her therapy(respect) her way, plus she kind of hates technology sometimes, she doesn’t need scheduling she can just do what she wants when she sees what it needs, I rarely use scheduling also unless I’m out of town it would be useful, dang, I’m long winded, To everyone take care and respect , love an Peace to all, all Americans aren’t crazy it’s 11 of us left, 😤🤬😂
G'day legend! Glad to hear the system works well for you! The scheduling side of things can get a bit full on, so I only use it really during a renovation of when I've got a specific reason for being super strict on timing. Still a great system tho, and glad you're making the most of it!!
Good little pump, I use it to transfer water from jerrys into the van tank.
Oh perfect use for it!
Thanks for that. Good to see an honest review by an Aussie user. I use Ryobi One+ tools and I have no problems but it's good to see a review for stuff I don't have (and in this case, probably won't have). Cheers.
