I am an enthusiast of all things 1990's and 1980's, while I love all the things from my childhood I also want them to be useful and used on a day to day basis. Thats why I love intergrating modern day technology into the old stuff we love and cherish. I also mess around with PC gaming, gaming computers, and love using components from AMD, Intel, Nvidia and Raedeon. If you let me, I will take you on a journey for all things crazy and unique.
There are currently several main segments within my channel, PC building gaming computers, Upcycling old computers, see if I can make a profit from old PC's and the ultimate playlist, RetroModding old stuff.

Should you BUY Stadia Controller for PC in 2023?
Could i use it for like 9 months
It’s still a perfectly good cpu. And no where near as bad as people make out.
@ESKATEUK 100%, the reviews at the time slated this cpu, although I do agree the price was a little high, now though it's definately good value for money
@ yeah the issue was, the price was high, and it should have had at least 10 cores. But in all honesty for most stuff it’s not needed and did actually outperform the 10th gen i9. I picked one of these up pre owned for £120, and it’s made a big improvement over my old i5 10600k I had.
@ESKATEUK yeah 100% for £120 it's a steal and keeps up with allot of the newer cpus to a certain extent
@ that’s right mate, I have a similar setup to my mate, and he has an i7 12700k, both with a 3080ti, and in all honesty, unless you play in 1080p, you won’t notice the difference!
@ESKATEUK I recently built 2 PCs both with weaker cpus but running rtx 3080 gpus, and everyone that wants to buy it asks how it performs at 1080p lowest settings and I'm like, this is advertised as a 1440p Gaming PC, it's not gonna push out high fps lol, both are i5 10th gen
My xbox controller is 20 bucks
is this high end?
No not really it's more of a budget build for its time, but upgradable so it can easily become fairly mid range gaming pc
I have a pair of HP Z840’s; One as a workstation/light gaming pc with dual e5-2689v4’s (20x 3.8ghz cores) and 128gb Ram(16x8gb 2400) and 6750xt gpu, and a second as a server with dual e5-2697v4’s (36x 3.6ghz cores) with 256gb Ram (16x16gb 2133), 8x14tb SAS HDD’s and an Intel A770 gpu. Z840’s are beasts with a TON of features, and I paid less than $200 each for them (less Ram and HDD’s) . If you get one, make sure you get one with the 1125w PSU so you get the extra GPU connectors. I know user benchmark is a terrible site, but even by their standards, both my Z840’s score “UFO” for Gaming, Workstation and Desktop categories! On PassMark, they still score in the top half of all systems, and that’s against the latest uber Epyc/Threadripper/Xeon systems with CPU’s that cost +$10k 😅
@baddestmofoalive I recently did a video comparing my 2699 vs intel ultra 9, and I managed to beat one of them lol still with the boost clock mod it made a huge difference
@@RestoTek I just got a SOIC8 clip and am going to try a bit of bios modding and overclocking on mine lol

@@MobeenMohammad-g3e What bruv, man lyke Mobeen?
why didn't you go with the 18 core exons they are like $30
What was the model No of those xeons?
@RestoTek Xeon E5-2697 v4 18-Core
@HelamanGile yeah i heard that actually performs better than the 2699, I'll pick that up especially if it's just 30 quid!
I have dual X58 motherboard from alliexpress with overclocking function as well. My both X5690 6 core cpus runing at 4.7GHz gives me extreme ammount of performance. 12 cores 24 threads for such an old platform is literally nuts and usually, the X58 chipset allows you to use only 24GB of ram MAX ( 6x4GB because it is triple channel ) but this motherboard allows you to use ECC server memory 16GB per stick and some people got 32GB sticks as well. Onboard native Sata 3 controller is really handy. But the manufacturer says that you have to use both CPUs because you loose some PCIe slots as well, some QPI bandwidth is used to communicate between those two CPUs and the chip automatically alocate some of the bandwidth if you use only one cpu, it's not a big deal but automatically you loose bunch of SATA3 connections because there are two controllers. My board has 12 SATA3 ports and QPI link speed isn't that high tbh. If you max out all the SATA3 by using SSD discs, you basically have no spare bandwidth for the GPU, USB, NIC but only if you using only 1 CPU. By using two CPUs , you have full QPI link speed avalible for everything. Mine are overclocked so the QPI bandwidth is even higher and i can utilise all 12 sata ports and still have a two full 16x PCIe 2.0 bandwidth avalible and one 8x as well as NIC and all USBs. And actually 12 cores at 4.7GHz is crazy fast to how old the machine is. RAM is 2133MHz just to mention.
@samohraje2433 thank you, that's amazing I might have a look into a pair of x5690 cpus for myself, 4.7GHz is pretty decent especially for gaming. Thank you for the indepth description here, I'm sure it will help other people too!
@RestoTek actually, compared to i7 3770K, the X5690 at 4GHz is roughly 10% faster as 3770K stock in games. At 4.7GHz i see almost 30fps boost in almost every game that is not 1core speciffic and can run on such an old system ( lack of some instruction sets ). Two X5690 at 4.7GHz gives you almost 30fps boost over i7 3770K at the same clock but consumes twice as much power, 3770K peaks at around 160W at 4.7GHz while x5690 peaks 210W on 12V CPU connector. Crazy how old that system is and still somehow capable. X99 is always better in many ways and i can clearly say it is futureprooved, if you have dual X99 mobo from like EVGA or Gigabyte or more likely from Asus, they support overclocking as well and by putting some 10 core xeons in them you can have 40 thread monster that can run any game at reasonable resolutions and framerates.
X5690 only supports 1333Mhz. Do you grill your breakfast on your PC? 😂😂
@ I don't know what that cpu support but it works at 2133MHz. But i think max is 1600-1700MHz i have BCLK fsb set to 235 and anything else via multiplier, for CPU i have 20x. It coockin but not as terrible as i thought. 400W just CPUs alone is wicked 😂
at first i thought it said :1. use microsoft cloth
overclocking on b560 mobo? how did that go?
Did i say i overclocked? I dunno how i did that on a B series board lol
Dual CPU or not this CPU is bottlenecking the GPU so bad!
i have enterprise grade hdds that still work today from 2012 lol. depends on your luck honesly.
@@GoHardDrive-b9f I suppose those drives are designed for long life, I've got quite a few wd blue and other consumer drives that have failed from 2014
Disable hypertreading, use -075mv, tubo boost unlock and this CPU should handle perfectly 4080 on 2k & 4k. Please do those of real life tests.
@Nikitafrom233 thank you I'll give that a go, it was throttling I think when it was running on boost clock, turbo boost was unlocked for these tests
I have a similar setup my board debugger is on the bottom though. Very admirable system. Gonna take a Translation read on that Russian site thanks.
Those people are unbelievable how they managed to figure this all out and share it for free on the Internet. Link is in my video description they have loads of stuff on their site
thats well treated xeon processor, but as a hpz600 dual x5660 owner I fed around and found out a lot but some bios tweaks sometimes actually change how the PC behave performance wise, also after owning it for 4 years I found out I am not using it's full capability, as it's a triple memory channel (meanwhile I had 2x16gbs and one of them got fried So pc is hella choppy in games) xeons ain't like big gaming thing but it could do for a budget PC, but if someone's new to PC world and just wants a PC and that's that I don't think a xeon workstation will be a good option (unless you have someone around that knows a lot about PC or could use the internet/chatgpt to get the PC working well) good video tho I enjoyed it for real
Can you linkt the Russian tutorial?
Sorry, I've add it into the video description!
Recently bought a dell OEM reference 480 8GB for $60. Refurbished it myself, cleaned the PCB, repaste with Arctic MX-6, new 1mm Arctic thermal pads. Installed into a Manjaro Linux PC and was plug n play with the built in open source driver.....all my games running great on Steam, including the Windows ones under Proton. Highly recommend folks to run this card on Linux as the open source driver is constantly updated and supports this card very well.
Will need to give it a try if I get another one. Glad to hear that you took the time to refurbish it. I think sometimes people take for granted the things they have
I have a Hackintosh with 2x E5 2699 v3, 256 GB RAM, and a 5700 XT and it's a monster still, even against the Mac Pro 7,1 :)
That's awesome, I need to get the rest of my ram sticks working properly and hopefully I can get it running with more than 16gb of ram. Still though pretty impressed with it's performance
It’s pretty crazy as the MB for these sell for about $40 now on eBay and a single E5-2699 v3 for less than $30 now you could get dual CPU with MB for about $100. That’s crazy for the performance
Do you dual boot with windows/MacOS? I’ve thought of doing the same.
@@danielc9312 Yes, but I can't remember the last time I logged in on Windows :) Keep in mind it's power-hungry, about 350W in idle, doing absolutely nothing. The electric bill will be pretty bad if you are not making money with such a machine and you only want it for the lols.
Why would ejecting it cause it to fail
I think what I was saying there is when you take the usb cable out the hard drive might still be spinning, although if you do eject it properly it should be an issue

Since you asked, yes, Doom Eternal was a fluke. That's one of the only games that will use all your cores. As of 2024, most games don't use more than six cores, so single-core performance is critically important. Newer CPUs have better single-thread performance, so they'll do better in games.
100% it was interesting with doom though and your right single threaded performance will always do better in gaming, although the future for gaming is changing since I think games in the future will use more and more cores
@@RestoTek They've been saying that forever, and it keeps being more wrong than right. The average game in 2015 used four cores, and in 2024 (nine years later!), hardly any games use more than six cores. Yes, it's true that future games will tend to use more cores, but the rate at which core count utilization increases is much slower than many people realize.
Yeah it has been, I remember when the FX range of CPUs came out and it's "8 cores" would be used in all games, and even when true 8 core cpus came out still didn't happen. I guess when games transition to a new api then that might be a game changer, just windows is a bit slow to move on
@@RestoTek It's not about Windows; it's about the game engines. Unreal Engine can already use up to 64 cores, but CPU utilization requires the developers to actively tell the engines how to use each of those cores, and most of them are either too rushed or too lazy to do that. This is why it's very unlikely that games will ever progress much beyond 16 cores unless some kind of core allocation automation technology is developed.

Yeah i think it's a pretty good deal, since I made my video prices have crept up
5:15 From what I remember, nvidia GPUs use a software scheduler. The top frequency of the Xeon could be the reason for the low GPU utilization.
teh answer - yes its bad saved ya 15 min
Nice video👍 but 1 CPU is going to be faster in games because of the massive latency when you have 2 CPU. 1 Russian RUclipsr already tested 1 and 2 CPU. Massive latency with 2 cpu
@dantebg100 that's interesting and that does make sense. I suppose I could play around with say one cpu runs windows, streaming etc and the other purely on the game. I was hoping for higher scores on the productivity benchmarks, got destroyed on geekbench 😆
You'll have to play around on processor affinity when it comes to games, especially since Windows does poorly when scheduling threads in these edge cases
@Demopans5990 I recently did a video using steamOS, I might give that a try and see what the difference is, was interesting when I did it with a fx 9590

Good Luck! I think windows pro versions don't work properly with 4 cpu configs. I was always told that requires a server license.
Try Doom 2016 on a "fast" P4 cpu (3.2ghz 2mb cache or faster) and your 3080ti using Vulcan. You will be surprised how playable it is.
Yeah it's amazing, I know that api is old now but it's still super effective!
It works on phone?
Unfortunately not
sadly windows cannot utilize all the cores but thanks for the video either way :D in Linus's video he used a threadripper and it only utilized 64 threads in a game made to use CPU
Ahh that's interesting, I think at some points of the video it was hitting tdp limit aswell, I might try again with a combination of disabling hyper threading and maybe disabling some cores so it can stay up at 3.6ghz
its not windows, its a game engine limitation, that same threadripper cpu used by linus will fully utilize 100% of its total cores in a productivity scenario, gaming is vastly different, also task manager is awfully poorly configured in terms of displaying accurate information on usage and even speeds of cpu
@@chippyyyy That could be a reason too but if I somehow ever get my hands on this CPU I am releasing benchmarks using Linux

@RDL_Jamaican just saw the video dude, man that build is pretty mad, love the ram cooling going on there. I think maybe single cpu setup is probably better. Cool build!
With LGA 2011-3 the RAM modules needs to be Dual Rank (ram chips on both sides of the sticks).
YESSS SIRRR!! DO IT!

Toothpaste is good too
To remove the scratch you have to somehow polish the surface
This actually does not remove the scratch, vaseline only makes it invisible
For m.2 booting its better to modify BIOS or get modified BIOS. Its UEFI and there is UEFI Module to make m.2 bootable. But you'll need an adapter for it. There is few AM3 boards with m.2 - Crosshair 3.0, Gigabyte GA-990FX-Gaming and ASRock Fatal1ty 990FX Killer
Thank you, I tried the modified bios but it got rejected when I tried to flash it, I do have a m.2 adaptor and it I could see it in the bios but it refused to boot. Kind of ran out of time for the video but I'll give it a try again next time!
@RestoTek As I know you need an external hardware adapter to flash modded bios
@axescar ahh I do have one but I didn't go that far down that route, thank you I'll do it when I get a chance
Exactly! Just add a price for electricity bills for let’s say two years, and with this new price try to lookup a modern alternative. It will be better. It even could have an ECC RAM support. PS The only question for me is Threadripper 39x0X or i9-13900K ;) I’m not sure. Perhaps I prefer to go to a local store. That’s only the reason
I have a competitor that might rival 13th gen intel but maybe not the 13th gen i9, will be coming out soon!
Short answer: No, it's a solid cpu, very stable. Now if someone upgrades every gen, it would be lackluster. Also, you're using cheap Intel stock cooler on a flagship CPU, on that locked motherboard (which you gave disclaimer on), substantially nuked performance about 50% (I scored over 1200 in CB 24 multicore)
@Gamejone_123 I didn't use a stock cooler, that's the biggest cooler I've ever owned what are you talking about? Granted the motherboard was lacking and I think I could have done a couple of other things to boost it's performance. Overall in the end I did say it was a great deal, especially now that 13th and 14th gen are failing
I was a bit lost on building a workstation with a i7 12700kf or 2 e5 2697v4 but this video convinced me to do xeon, it's also pretty cheap on aliexpress
Yeah I'm rebuilding another one right now, it's a little fiddly, I got error codes come up, just remember not to over tighten the cpu coolers and add the ram sticks in one at a time. That's add one ram stick then boot, turn off add another etc. It's some weird black magic on my mobo anyways
@RestoTek alright thanks for the tip!
Next time can you please show us the LOW 1% FPS? Thank you
in the first test for tomb raider, the steam os cpu was using 20% less cpu even if a few less frames, system will run cooler, similar results in GTA V. same thing in hogwarts legacy as well. the CPU is 20% less loaded than on windows. frames such because HL is poorly optimised but even the CPU is 4-5 degrees cooler as well. oncve heat soak from the windows system sets in it will slow down and much faster. also given the massive CPU usage power draw will also be much higher. hell divers CPU load and temps are almost identical but yet more frames. I feel like steamOS will yield better efficiency given the lower CPU usage and temps perhaps not by much but it matters where I live as we pay pretty high prices for power as far as the US market is concerned and Im sure the power is even more pricey for our friends across the pond great video, I have a 9590 sitting in the next room perhaps I'll throw steam OS on it for giggles and mess around. I feel inspired. subbed
Thank you, your insight is really valuable and something I didn't really pick up on in terms of temps, I also wanted to do a bit more testing to see if there is a difference between running dx12 and vulkan games on steamOS.
@@RestoTek that would be extremely interesting. with a 60% tariff on tech coming to my country getting every ounce of perf out matters ALOT
cap, sorry :)
lol what part of this do you think this is fake
The problem with the i9 11900k is that it isn;t a i9, It's an i7. If the 11th gen was priced better, it might have been better recieved.
100%, it's a better batch of the i7 with a higher overclock
As a person who collects Sony's Walkman's, I can say that you physically offended me in so many ways and you will pay for my mental bills cause I'm going to a therapist 😭 😭 😭
I have to admit the general feedback foe this video has been mainly negative. A bit insensitive on my part, should have never have done it
On GTA V steamOS had locked 30fps, with double vsync, that wasn't a fair comparison
Why no 1% and 0.1% low bench mark?
@@midulfrombd I'll need to add it in my next video
It would be great if you could collect 1% and .1% lows next time. This way we could see the numbers for frame pacing, without having to resort to subjective feel, which differs from person to person A great video nonetheless
@@iharandreyev2497 I will do someone mentioned that I can record the avg 1% and .1% lows so I'll definately do that in my next video, thanks for the feedback!
