Been leasing with Sunrun sine 2021. We have a fixed lease payment. Has not, will not change in price. All should do their homework to see what option's work. Fo us, leasing with Sunrun made sense.

Applying for a loan to get purchase solar equipment from any company is insane. None of them will be around in 10 years. Companies are not going out of business. The business owners have made their money, understand that they'll be on hook for warranty of their product (not made by them but has their brand sticker), and they are now bankrupting out their LLCs and keeping their buried profits. We almost bought solar panels years ago. We actually read through the whole contract and saw that they would add a lean on our house. We were told, initially, that there's no lien. We stopped the process immediately.

It's indeed dark under the full Sun. Either snatch a large chunk of cash from the consumer right away, or lock him into a contract where he keeps making payments for many years. That, in a nutshell, what all these schemes amount to. The only honest way to do solar business is to come to a house and say "let me put my panels on your roof, I'll collect all they produce and make regular payments to you for as long as they are there."

check your sources, Sunrun Sunnova and Sunpower combined represent< 25% of solar sales in the USA. Solar installation is a fragmented business service. There are no monopolies. Enphase is the residential market leader, you quote Sunrun uses low-cost equipment and has the majority market position. This does not add up. The company holding the lease is responsible for care and maintenance eliminating the threat of the installer going out of business. Sunrun packages the leases into $300-$350 million investment packages and sells the contract and obligation. Sunrun and Sunnova are public companies, the financial results are public knowledge, you should realize Sunrun is not making much profit on the business booked and completed. The investment community question the business model sustainability. Many homeowners can not take advantage of the 30% IRA ITC. No wonder 85% of Sunrun revenues are TPO (Third party ownership-leases) Who is telling the truth and who is in the dark?

lol, you’re acting like the utilities aren’t a scam. You’re on a never ending lease for your power, with insane time of use rates. That they can change whenever they want because the invested owned utilities have a monopoly and lobby against everything. Not to mention there have been more and more power outages… Also Sunrun is now offering a FLEX pay lease, that allows you to install the max amount of solar panels on your roof, and you only pay for the power you consume from the panels. While the excess still goes back to the grid for credits in your name, and also gives you more available power for the virtual power plants. Adding 3 Tesla powerwalls and 150% offset, you can get $600-$800 back per year from your powerwalls, helping pay the lease.

You keep villianizing PPA’s, but if someone will not buy, and a PPA is saving them 50% compared to PG&E for example that is a smart financial decision. If you’re going to villainize anyone, it’s the utility (monopolies) that should get that flack.

This is not 100% accurate. The grid in your neighborhood has been designed to handle the load of your house and anyone else in the neighborhood at the same time. Think back 10 years, everyone (in the neighborhood) running their 4-5kW AC at the same time = no problem. With solar energy is just flowing in the opposite direction. If you system is 10kW you house uses a bit (no one home) and the rest goes back. No problem. The problem here is that the local utilities are no longer making money. It's all greed. Politicians pushed solar down our throats, even building codes require it. Now the utility companies aren't making any profits, and they need to (not really, but in our stupid system, yes) so they have to raise rates to keep paying those CEOs 80 million dollars a year. And the CPUC is a gutless useless government body. Thank you Democrats in California for doing nothing and actually making this worse.

Downvote for, essentially, providing misinformation. 1. There is no massive problem with solar. There's a massive problem of solar companies bilking their customers for massive amounts of money for solar installations. But solar all by itself, as a solution to offset or even remove your electricity costs, is a perfectly viable solution. What home-owners have to do, is do their homework. Research the cost of solar panels. Research the cost of the hardwire to grid-tie it. Research the cost of other related materials to install it. Research any and all credits and incentives for installing solar. Then when they're ready to have it installed, have a very frank, and informed discussion with the solar company on installation. Buy the hardware yourself, and have the solar company install it. Do the permits yourself. Insist that you keep all the inventives and credits, and not sign it over to the solar company.

Good video, but the use of the word scam for a lot of these is for clicks. A PPA is not a scam. A dealer fee is not a scam, but are utility like PG&E charging $.50 per kWh is a scam. Someone paying cash for their solar system clearly is the best possible economic, ROI, but so many people have said no to purchase Solar, so the next best way to help them is a PPA. The amount of people that want to save money on their power is probably, close to 100%, but the amount of people that will actually pay cash to buy their power into the future is only about 20%, this is why they’re different ways to pay for it. Not everyone wants an easy, even though they’re better in many ways, and clearly many people don’t want ice cars anymore

Question I have had my solar system which I purchased outright and have had no issues Recently I found out that I had not been watch my output and found out my 40 and Breaker in my main panel that activates my panels was shut off by I think the power company not knowing this my system had not been producing for more then four months during the hottest time of the year. I think they shut my system down when working on the lines and then did not turn it back on or let me know that this had been done. Have any one else had this issue ?

I don't get not having batteries. Remember lithium batteries may explode so don't keep them in your house. Not to mention a lightning strike taking them out. Just use deep cycle batteries, not super good, but cheap.

IMO Solar energy comes with many options. From the standpoint of Micro inverters, they make the most efficient use of conversion DC to AC. The kicker is they are based on the Grid monitoring Unless you set up with an additional invertor and battery you are dead in the water when the grid goes down. Most fly-by-night companies came in to set up grid-tied systems for naive consumers.
