We are Holly and Stephane are formerly from the San Francisco Bay Area but have a home in Tahoe. Our 'someday' plan was to sell our belongings, buy a boat and with reckless abandon sail away to visit distant lands, which we did starting in 2020.

Beauty & Wreckage Grenada to Carriacou EP 85 #sailing #lifestyle #boatlife #caribbean
We sail from Trinidad and check in to Grenada to finish putting our catamaran back together for the season in the Caribbean. We land in Grenada to enjoy a chocolate factory tour with new friends, then make our way to Carriacou. This island had major damage from hurricane Beryl last July and the locals are continuing to rebuild.

We ran to Trinidad to find safe shelter from Hurricane Beryl which became a category 5 storm. We left Tobago for Trinidad in a rush against time, and lots of traffic leaving Grenada with the same idea as we had, to get as far south as possible out of the path of this record breaking hurricane in the Caribbean. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the islands hit and Jamaica and other islands ...

Fun With Fuel (EP 56) Leg 3 Day 3 #Outremer52
Hi guys, very glad to see you sailing again. I am curious how dis you fix the ac unit on the door? How did it get the electricity from outside with all door closed and how dis it discharge outside? We are looking for a feasible solution for our catamaran. Thank you very much, your experience will be very useful. We love you channel and the videos are inspiring. All the best, Elli
This was a fixed solution where he built a wall out of some kind of waterproof board with the slider on one side open. On the board he fixed a little ledge that mounted the unit that discharged outside in the cockpit. Then the door could lock in place against the new ‘wall’. So it was secure. Hope this helps.
@SailingAWEN thank you very much for your very useful answer! It is amazing that you can answer so quickly and in detail, considering how busy you are. We appreciate it a lot! Enjoy the season!
Will be in Grenada in Feb for my ASA certifications! Woohoo!
Welcome back, I'm very happy to see you again sailing! Actually, by coincidence, I'm considering to buy the same rope cutter you installed. The 695 version of the Shaft Shark (since I have Flexofold too). AB marine advised size 93 mm. Is it the same you purchased? It would great for me to know, thank you. By the way, next winter we plan to cross the Atlantic from Europe with our Itacatamaran. We would be so happy and lucky to cross path with you guys. You are an inspiring example. Best,Daniele from Italy
Thank you Daniele! Yes, the same but the diameter must have been slightly less than 93mm as I couldn't get a good clamp. The two halves were touching each other after assembly and you want a 0.5 mm gap. In the end I had to get 0.8 mm removed from each half to get a satisfactory clamp. Try to get an actual measurement of the diameter before ordering the Shaft Shark. Next winter we might be cruising west of the Caribbean, maybe San Blas, and cross the Pacific but plans change all the time. Hope to share an anchorage one day!
@@SailingAWEN Thank you very much Sthépane for your quick and kind answer, very helpful, we will certainly do as you suggest. I also saw that you have chosen not to apply anything on the blades and I wish to comfort you by saying that we did this for the last 3 years without major issues; since you move often as we do (almost everyday) this was ok for us: very limited and not disturbing growth. We do not charter any more and my wife and myself just enjoy sailing, therefore we have free schedule (a part my investment banking job in smart working mode...😪). We also plan to sail to the Pacific in maybe two years, therefore we might also hopefully cross paths there one day, who nows. Be very careful in the Panama area, as pirate /crime statistics so suggest; while it appears that the San Blas are calm again after an accident in 2019; but I'm sure that you are already informed about this, as you do with all the rest. Thanks again and best regards, Daniele
This is soooo good stuff🏅👍
Nine out of ten people say they love chocolate. The tenth is lying.
💯!!!
What kind of chain hook are you using for the bridle? Do you like it? Have you tried using a soft shackle and if so what do you think of the pros/cons?
Kong Chain Gripper, it was delivered with the boat. So far so good. We have used a soft shackle in the past but you have to feed it through a 10mm chain link so it's not the easiest. I want to switch back to the Mantus snubber pendant. We had this on our first boat and liked it a lot. Easy to install and remove, and you can use it on the rope when you need a lot more chain. I bought one pre-delivery but cannot find it anywhere on the boat. I know the day I'm going to buy another one I'll find the missing one :-)
Great video- thanks! Does the contractor/yard rent or lend you the AC unit and the plastic poles/tarp for the tent or do you now own them and need to deal with storing or getting rid of them?
They supply everything. 😁
Hey, hide a key on deck somewhere - maybe you’ll need someone to get in while you’re not aboard.
That was definitely one big takeaway from this experience 👍
Yes Tims serves a delicious lobster barbecue
Ma Doué il est gourmand Stéphane 😂
As a sailor for decades...we lost our keys a few times, and one time not so lucky that anything wanted to open, we slept outside in toxedo and gala dress, Not the best experience in 37 degrees C. Next morning I was lucky to remember that I kept a key in my office, and we got that send to us. Meanwhile staying in a hotel as we could not get in. It proofed the boat was well protected. After that we created a secret spot, waterproof and invisible for others, not going to say here. But it happened again we just opened the key safe and opened the boat.
I hope Holly learns to trust Stephan more, this sailing season.
We have a ‘see something, say something’ culture on our boat so it’s encouraged for crew to ask questions. Communication is critical. As for trust, it takes pretty epic level of trust to quit your job, purge 90% of your belongings, leave your family, spend a zillion dollars on a boat and cross oceans with someone don’t you think? 😎👍🏻
💕💕Good to see you again sailing and wearing your life preserver while underway. Too many RUclipsrs need to set safety as more of a priority. Keep Sailing safe.
Lol, yes I’m definitely the safety mascot on this boat 😂🦺! Every boat needs one! -Holly
Been following you from the beginning. Great to see you back on the water. I will be in Grenada/SV&G on our FP Astréa 42 ‘Aquarelle’ Dec. 7-16. Are Customs & Immigration offices operating in Tyrell Bay and Union Island? Would be fun to cross paths if you’re still in the area then. Fair winds!
We will be in the Grenadines until at least Christmas so there is a very good chance we could cross path. Keep an eye on NoForeignLand and SeaPeople for our location. Yes, Customs & Immigration offices are operating both at Tyrell Bay (checking out tomorrow) and Union Island (per our friends).
@ thank you for the reply! So kind! SeaPeople, perfect.
You guys didn't do anything fun inTrinidad? You said you would.
Unfortunately not, we had a haulout date to respect and once we were in the water we made the decision to sail to Grenada to continue preparing the boat.
Enjoy that you are back. I used to live in northern California (Marin, Sonoma) and had a sailboat in Pelican Harbour Sausalito.
I liked your video 😊
Thank you!
Glad you're back, always enjoy your videos
Welcome back aboard! Glad AWEN had great care while she was on the hard and is now ready for lots of fun! Did you happen to meet the owners of the NEEL 43 that was next to you?
Yes we did! Nice family.
It's great to have you back! Thank you for this very good first new season video with good spirits, fun facts and interesting details. Congrats for the production values (bed sequence, music, happy ending - its all there)
Never been so jealous of a TENT! Awesome
Snowbirds welcome back😊
Funny, I never thought we were snowbirds but it does apply to us.
@ 😂😂 but you were blown off course❤️
Great to see you back, I have been watching all your episodes! One request though, please turn off this beauty/smoothing filters, it makes your faces look so artificial. Have a great season! Chris
Thanks for the tip. I keep meaning to do that but haven’t found the setting!
Welcome back. Really missed you guys (and Awen) ❤🎉
She was nice tucked away under the tarp. Now ready for new adventures!
So, out of hibernation like a bear , than became a duck because all ducks fly south and ready for new sea adventures , thanks for sharing
Glad to see 👀 ya'll back. It's ben so long i forgot ya'lls channel was still alive. So looking forward for more videos. Ok stay safe and until next time, Aloha from the Big Island of Hawaii! Where it is summer year round.
Aloha! We love the Hawaiian Islands. We used to go there often when we were still living in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Ok!
This is a new season, are you leaving us? 🥲
Oops wrong channel
Would you have the 'complete' recipe for avoiding mold (and the musty smell) in your boat? And it should be 'published'! I heard that the A/C was kept on (and a tarp all over the boat). Was that enough, all by itself? Any additional stuff: dehumidifier, ventillation/fans, odour absorbers, fumigation...? I had a boat in Canada mothballed over the cold and dry winter months and it still had a musty smell in the spring.
I wiped all surfaces with vinegar before we left. And we also left the small fans on in the hulls. The AC was the magic we think.
We've just left our Seawind 1370 in Thailand after a month of cruising the island on the east side of the Gulf of Thailand. Heading back to Northern California for the holidays, and to spend some time at our Tahoe cabin. Thanks for sharing your adventures. We hope to get to the Caribbean in late 2025 or 2026. Was the AC unit another service provided by that marina?
Yes, Peake’s has a guy who installs it. Technically he's an independent business from Peakes, his name is Richard.
Enjoy snowy Tahoe!
Yay lets go explore and enjoy Awen
happen to see mother and son vlogging together
?? lol, my husband and I are the same age :-)
So happy you're back! Missed you both. Best wishes for good times this season!
Hi guys wonderful to have you back again good to see is back on the catamaran , keep up the good work always enjoy your videos , Cliff from Logan City , Queensland, Australia 🇦🇺 i’m on the big island 🏝️
Thanks 👍
So glad to see you back. Love your channel ⛵⛵⛵
Thanks so much!
We love seeing you back on AWEN! Glad you didn’t have to spend too many nights in the office building with cold showers.😝 Looking forward to a fun filled season! 💚🤙🏼
I’m very pleased that things are going well for you. Thanks for sharing the experience. I hope you have a great cruising season. I can’t see your boat without thinking it’s got to be the near ideal vessel. Beautiful, comfortable and fast. Bon voyages.
Thank you!
You're back! 👍👍👍
Yes!!! Were excited to be starting a new season!
Welcome back!👍
Thanks! 👋🏻
Woohoo!
Welcome Back! Nasty snake😮 Awen does look good.
Thank you!
I was very pleased to see you're back for another great season🎉
Thank you!
I was wondering if this community could get a Discord server or something similar to build community. Open minded to other apps too. Nice to see you back. Looks like the Tahoe basin got slammed with snow this past week after you left.
We left in the nick of time!
What an incredible view! Nice to see you again!
Great Video, how are your Experience with the Sails? Was it the right choice?
Oh yes! 100%
Pronounced, Toh-bay-go.❤🇹🇹
Lovely Adidas shorts. Dressed it the wrong way?
I have been binge listening to your podcast in your RUclips absence. Were y'all affected by any wild fire smoke during your stay? I think it has finally cleared up here in SE Idaho.
No smoke. It’s been beautiful weather here!
Holly, I meant to mention I noticed you took the trouble to film correctly so Awen looks right on video ( not backwards! ) Cheers Warren
lol, I had our camera and not my phone this time!
@@SailingAWEN I believe there is an setting you can do on your phone the correct the ‘read right ‘ too!!! (Many people have backward lettering )
Good to see Both looking relaxed and rested! Lovely spot! Thru panama? Would you go west from there or north to california/pnw/alaska? etc? Friends did that during covid ( last yacht thru canal) despite the doom and gloom of sai!ing North they had no issues that ' conventional 'wisdom say can't be done. but I guess you know, that coast though??? Cheers warren
