How to Shim & Set Backlash On A R200 VLSD Diff | S13, 180sx
In this video I try to work out if my driveline noise is coming from the diff. I take apart the R200 VLSD on my S13 180sx and shim the diff center to remove backlash as well as measure and adjust the crown and pinion wheel.
Unfortunately the noise didn't come from the diff as even after adjusting everything into spec it still makes the noise. I am going to look at changing the driveshaft center bearing on the next video. If you have any ideas or advice please let me know in the comments.

In today's video we carry on from our last video upgrading the Rear subframe in the 180sx. Sway bars are a overlooked modification on most people's car. Often they make a bigger difference than coilovers and at 1/3 of the price they are a must do. With the extra adjustability they can take some time to setup and fine tune. Whiteline Sway Bar Install & Review | V35 Skyline, G35 Infiniti
Hey man, excellent video I did this install very recently on my b20 VTEC, so B16 head and I have the black variant of this with the black variant of the same throttle body that you have installed. I replaced the gasket on the intake air temperature sensor, as well as the gasket on the map sensor, and the TPS sensor. I went through Hondata and set the pedal position according to the new TPS orientation before starting the car. However, I have a high idle 1500 RPM and I cannot get it below that even after adjusting idle within the ECU. Almost like I have a vacuum leak but I literally have everything tight and installed . Do you have any suggestion on what could be causing this? I cleaned the IACV and reassured there are no leaks by spraying carburetor cleaner all over anything that dealt with vacuum to hear a difference in the idol. Could it be a bad PCV?
Hey mate my guess is you have a vacuum leak. You can spray brake cleaner on the manifold when running to find the leak. It can also leak from the injector seals when they sit on the manifold. Just double check you IACV is plugged in and the idle screw on the throttle body is screwed all the way in. Can you hear a hissing noise?
wOw look like better nice really good easy horse poWer❤🔰🔥👌
Thanks! 🙏
You're sure it not a wheel bearing that's sounding?
I had a wheel bearing go on the skyline and it made a noise the faster you drive. This is just at a particular harmonics.
My enjin b16 crank but not start..what the problem sensor new..help😢
Do you have spark and fuel?
can I do this with the exhaust in place ? thanks
Probably not you won’t be able to fit the oil pickup tube.
Your title is misleading. Spoon sports carbon wing, but you actually have a fake spoon sports
Spoon Sports style*
Looks good - what fuel pressure is it running? stock? I have a FPR on the way for my B18C7 I am trying to figure out what pressue do I run? everything is stock
I have another video on installing the aem fuel pressure regulator. From memory 42.5psi is the stock pressure.
The fact I’m watching this on Christmas in 24 crazy
Merry Christmas!
Thanks for the tip about wiring the white wire to D10 (ELD) and brown wire to D21 (sensor ground). Initially, i wired the brown wire to chassis ground and readings would not move much. I'm using a USDM P28 ecu on Neptune RTP
Yeh same thing happened to me that why i thought to make the video lol
When did you get the misfire? I’m going thru the same thing atm. After my tune I’ll notice it misfire in 3rd gear on full throttle around 5000rpm. New plugs , checked leads, new dizzy cap. Tuner reckons told me to try new dizzy if it’s not that he said probably got a fried hondata
Misfire started at light throttle cruising but was fine full throttle. Over time it slowly got worse and worse then just did it all the time. It was like something was slowly dying. I fixed some wires going into the ecu and it idles fine now but that makes me think it nigh be a wire that’s broken.
@@JarrodWillemse interesting stuff .
@@dguanz I'm going to do a video changing the harness soon. Lets see if it fixes it. Otherwise i think i might go to a link.
@@JarrodWillemse I was thinking the same lol
@ I’m running Dinosaur s300 v1 . It came with the car
Cam profile must be pretty aggressive, that idle sounds awesome!
the cams are degreed with some overlap.
Can I do this on my vhr37?
Does your car have the pulley? I think the later HR engine didn't have this as they were all E fan.
@ the diagram says it’s supposed to have one but it doesn’t
@@us2vlogs532 you can try the lightweight pully though.
Is it even worth it? The v35 already has a pretty stiff shifter.
It not to make the shifter stiffer. It makes the driveline feel more solid when changing gears or accelerating as the driveline moves.
Hey Jarrod, great video. I really like the steelies look. Do you remember the width and offset? I'm thinking of getting the same. Thanks, David
Cheers mate. I believe they are Dynamic D Steelies. Maybe a 15x8+20. They came on the car when I bought it. 15x8 is a good size but +25 or 30 is better. thewheelgallery.com.au/products/dynamic-steel-drift-d
@JarrodWillemse thanks for replying man. I ordered dynamic 15x7 +12 yesterday. With 185s I hope it works. I hope it stays legal. What you think? Thanks again mate
@@DaiAw-qu2xr yeh the 7" with 185 is on the weaker side of fitment. It should fit easy. They don't fit with type r brakes though.
@@JarrodWillemse hey Jarrod, freaking out man. Got the rims. 15x7 +12. They stick out 20mm past guard. What do I do? Why? If only I can send you photo
@@DaiAw-qu2xr did they send you the right spec?
Did you set the unit initially to manual transmission (00) instead of auto (88)?
No does it have that option? Is it much different?
Can you still use HTS to tune it with that or only Hondata
Sorry I’m not sure I haven’t used HTS before.
Can you still use HTS to tune it with that or only Hondata
FJ20 better than both?
I don’t have any experience with that engine.
Thank you for the knowledge brother
Always happy to help!
Its your wiring harnesses
I had the same issues
I got one of those ebay harness to throw in and try.
a whale what
Welcome to the Honda world hahaha 😝
how long did this mishimoto switch work?
I have only done a few thousands kms since installing and it’s fine. Did yours break?
Thanks so much for this video! It's so hard to find reviews about EVC's in anything other than a 4WD. Was thinking of trying one in my i20 coz the throttle lag makes mountain driving painful, and this video makes me confident an EVC will help.
No worries mate. Hopefully it delivers what you are looking for.
Stiffen the front swaybar or maybe your rear swaybar is to stiff .might need an thinner one The front bar effects the rear of the car and vice versa
I played around with the dampers and I feel it’s pretty neutral i can get it to push in a corner or rotate depending how I apply the accelerator and brake
please never take this video down. Im still waiting for my parts to come in the mail and then im probably going to be watching this 38 minute video for a couple days.
No worries mate i don’t plan to remove it. Best of luck with the job!
I have needle stops on my GQ patrol, I pulled them over the stop and let them come to a rest then took them off there and was told to put them back exactly there and then wind them back over the stop, if that doesn’t stop I’ll try this method. Thanks
Just be careful moving it when powered on because you don’t want to damage the gauge.
Can I do this with the old style wideband or is it not compatible
I’m not sure but I did it on a link g4 and it was fine with the old style.
I have a b20 in my integra (first car) can anyone give me any tips on how to take proper care of her ? Please 🥺
Just keep up the servicing they are pretty bulletproof proof not much goes wrong.
B20b rn chat am I cooked 😔?
What’s wrong with the b20b?
I love my CA18DET I have had it for 24yrs. I have one of thr first Nisstune ECU chips as done by a guy Jeff in SA. It has GTR 444cc injectors, Z32 AFM, T28BB, Trust intercooler, walbro 255lph pump with turbo smart fule reg, all custom plumbing ceramic coated. It has just under 300HP and was my daily for 14yrs now I work in Asia one day I will drive it again.
Sounds like the 2000s tuner setup. 300hp reliable and fun perfect for a street car.
@JarrodWillemse for sure, it is my mate who helped me he works on drift cars and all Nissans. So we did our research and came up with this combo. I still have the car back in SA, but I now work in Kuala Lumpur, so one day, I will get it running again. It's sat for 10 years now, so it will need some new hoses and some other things, but it will get back on the road. Of course, I have the classic Wrok Meister S1 2pc rims to give it the JDM look.
Thanks 😃👍
Your welcome 🙏
On these car can you modify the stock ecu?
Yes people use nistune to chip the ecu but its worth noting these ECU's are 30 + years old now and are not that reliable because of that. I would suggest buying a Haltec or Link ecu.
Ima see if i can put those in some 370z nismo seats and i stall those in my g35/v35 skyline.
I wanted nismo seats but in Australia they are around 5k. It shouldn’t be too hard.
Hai sempre il termostato originale? Va bene cambiare con uno anticipato? Quale in caso?
I have the original thermostat still.
Hey bro how does it look illuminated?
It’s not as bright as the original face so change to some white led while you have it out.
Appreciate you taking the time to make this video!
No worries it’s not a popular video but I knew there are people out there looking for exactly this haha.
Hey have you done it on a Nissan S13?
No not yet! Maybe if I do a nismo cluster I might
@ i changed my needle and yeah it doesnt do much anymore i’m going to try it like you did in the video hopefuly it works
What wire harness do you use?
Just the original one obd1
Next, throttle body to carburetor.
This car doesn’t have a carburettor.
The reason the distributor cap didn’t fit is because you have the wrong one. B16 and GSR are different caps. Great install video by the way!
Ohhh thanks I didn’t know that. It’s just the one that came in the kit from marketplace. Thanks for the feedback.
Too near frame ned to trim alot..
No pain no gain
I'm selling my 2012 civic Si to be able to afford my repairs on my daily Lexus LS400. My co worker has a manual 2000 EM Civic (The 2 door coupe), it's got a D16Y8 with all fresh brand new head gasket, other gaksets and seals, etc for $1,500, it has Si rear disc brake conversion, etc. I want to buy it and daily it as an economical car while my Lexus gets fixed, then when I hopefully get this better paying job soon, I want to put it aside and swap a B series in it. I've always wanted a older B swapped honda, potentially a turbo B series.
Sounds good. That’s petty cheap they are much more expensive here in Australia. Easy to swap a b series later on into the car. Just don’t wait too long as they are getting expensive and hard to find.
@JarrodWillemse yeah, I've never done an engine swap before. And I love the K series, but I've always wanted a B series togue machine. They're just such beautiful motors, have insane VTEC and they are very relevant power houses still.
Penis intake😭☠️
Been looking at a b series eg hatch for a month now gonna see about buying it if it’s still on the market, watching this video to give me a heads up
Hi mate you should buy it! Super fun and easy to work on!
@ it’s a b16a2 out of a 2000 si with a “stage 2 clutch” not sure hm of that is true but it is a b16 is it worth building or should I swap it again later on
Have you figure our that trim paint code. It looked like it is painted of gloss black.
No I just left it that colour.
What about the other needles?? Temp and fuel? Temp is way up fuel is way down
Temp you put on once the car is fully warmed up and sit it at the half way mark. For the fuel I suggest taking a picture before where the needle sits on a flat surface and the replicate after.
@ thank you I’ll try, now it’s another problem the rpms work fine for the 2 first vroom then the needle stiffens up and I got to manually pull it a little bit outwards..
I found the problem, it was the inner piece of the cluster, I damaged it while taking the needle off.. thanks again
Great video!!
Thank you !🙏
B16 with turbo I have
Noioceeee how much hp?
Do the extension plates add any extra height to the fully lowered height of the unit? Thinking of buying these from DTM (under the Quick Lift name) in Melbourne, but would need the extension plates to reach the correct lifting points on my Mustang and want to make sure they would fit under the car with the extension plates attached.
Yeh they have jacking pads on them so there’s a gap of maybe 10mm. I can’t imagine you need it unless you’re working on a Ute or 4wd. Just make sure you order the longest version. This one can lift my civic and that’s a pretty short car.
@@JarrodWillemse Thanks for the quick reply! I went to Melbourne today and picked up the Quick Lifts along with the two extender plates. Bought the 3500kg version, which may be overkill for my 1600kg car but I like to err on the side of caution. The extender plate and extra rubber pads add around 50mm extra height to the unit in its resting state, which I thought was perfect to just fit under the 150mm clearance at the front lifting point, but I measured under the the other side of the car a few minutes ago to find that side is 15mm lower so that the Quick Lift with the extender plate wont quite fit under it! No big deal though, that just means I need to spend an extra minute to jack under the engine cross-member to lift the front up a tad to fit the Lifts in place. Clearance height at the back not a problem as the lifting point there is higher at 200mm per side (will require packing up with an extra block). I did need to buy the length extenders because the recommended lifting points for my '72 Mustang are under the torque boxes and the distance between them is around 1500-1600mm. Total price for 3500kg model and two extender plates was $2900 which is a little on the expensive side but I'm ok with that as DTM has had engineering testing and certification completed for this lift model so they are a WorkSafe approved item. I haven't started setting them up yet but my initial impression is that the build quality is good with safe welding and good final finish. Pretty glad you did the demo video, thanks for taking the time make it and post it, gave me the confidence to make the purchase!
Would love to find a video explaining and describing fwd sr manual transmissions, like the sr18 32v and sr20 32v etc etc.
Sounds interesting. I don’t have any experience in that department currently.
