Best Way to Fish Wiring Inside A Wall!
Hi Everyone,
I've been hard at work helping a friend with projects around his (new to him) home, and am starting to film some of the projects that I have received the most questions about from my viewers. This video covers the general process of fishing wires inside walls that already have sheetrock in place. Chapters and links to the tools I used can be found below. Thanks for watching!

      Hi Michael, You could try to use the JScan app with your car to enable the HID lights function as is demonstrated in the video to see if the car will recognize the change in power draw required and stop flickering. Otherwise, I would say I generally recommend purchasing a high-quality product (which of course will cost you) and, if needed, resistors, to ensure you’re getting the best chance to eliminate flickering or other similar issues. I typically recommend Diode Dynamics, GTR Lighting, or Morimoto if they have a product that works for your car. LasFit is also a decent product but would not be my top choice.

    Do you foresee any bowing occurring in the wooden cross supports over time, given the weight of both kayaks? Do you think support underneath would be needed?

    • @completepete

      We had no bowing issues and just used what we had on hand. You could go with a 2x8, 2x10 or 2x12 for more support, I could stand on the wood we used.

      Thanks for watching! My straps are 1.5” wide, so, if yours are thinner than that, (1”, for example), you’d need these instead: www.nrs.com/nrs-15-heavy-duty-straps/pywr Assuming this is the product you bought, I might suggest double checking the measurements yourself - the video could be making them look larger than they actually are!

    Thank you for a great idea. Actually, to be simpler, you really don't need the slide-out inner pipe, only using the 2 inch (or maybe next larger size) (which is stronger than 1.5 inch). Cut it long enough to stick out far enough from the side of the car to support the kayak like you did. Strap the pipe to the car rack like you did, sticking out. Then the pipe is strong and won't move. Load the kayak like you did and when done, remove the straps and the temporary loading pipe and place it in the car or strap it to the rack running along the length of the kayak. A number of years ago I was loading my somewhat heavy kayak on top of my Subaru Outback and initially lifted the entire kayak up too fast (IDIOT!!!!), not realizing that I tore my left shoulder rotator cuff, but didn't know for a week or so, then experiencing horrible pain one night for a day or so (thinking I had pulled a muscle), but it did not get better. Couldn't move my arm. Thought I might be having heart problems. Then eventually passed out from the pain and made a rush trip to the emergency room. Ended up having surgery and months of recovery before using my left arm for lifting again. What a pain in the ass (arm) that was. Now considering doing the kayak thing again, so, I like your simpler method. Thank you! 😀

    Instead of looping around the J rack can I loop over the roof rack and over the kayak? Like the first one Kaye the kayak flat. For the quick straps can I put them on the side of the hood not the front?

    • @completepete
      @completepete 16 дней назад

      I don’t see anything wrong with your approach of looping around the crossbars instead of the j hooks - of course, you should test this before transporting your boat accordingly! I personally wouldn’t recommend putting the hood strap on the side of the hood as it could be a weaker area, but, again, I don’t see anything inherently wrong with it as long as you don’t tighten the straps down too much

    • @huanc7996
      @huanc7996 16 дней назад

      @@completepeteI’m afraid the J rack isn’t sturdy enough. You made a good point on the side of the hood is a weak point compared to the front where the latch is.

    What’s the difference between the icar pro WiFi and the icar pro Bluetooth? It’s also my understanding that I won’t need the cables since I’m going do this for my 2016 jeep compass. I can directly plug this in without the by pass.

    • @completepete
      @completepete 18 дней назад

      The only notable difference is in the way your phone connects to the adapter, either over WiFi, or over Bluetooth. Bluetooth has been a stronger, more reliable connection in my experience, but for what will hopefully be limited usage, I’d pick the one that is least expensive! Based on some brief research, I’d agree that you should be able to connect without the gateway cables In your model year!

    • @imlocxtion3713
      @imlocxtion3713 18 дней назад

      @@completepete does that mean one would always have to be connected to wifi for the lights to be able to stay on and not flicker? In other words, do the settings that are applied through the device you’ve shown here, do those settings stay permanent while the device is connected? Do I always need to be connected to WiFi for it to operate?

    • @completepete
      @completepete 18 дней назад

      The device itself emits a wireless network for your phone to connect to when in use - it doesn’t connect to your home’s WiFi, or any other WiFi you might connect to throughout the course of your day. Once you make the setting changes and they are written to the vehicle’s computer, there is no need for the device to remain connected, or for it to ever be connected again in the future unless you’re using it to do something different

    My question is, what do I need to do this with my 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 Custom Trail Boss. I have the Lasfit lights installed for by my high and low beams and my low beams will turn on just fine but then will turn off and then back on. Sometimes only one comes back on. Lasfit sent me adapters to possible help with the issue but the way they want me to install them is kind of shady. If I can do it through adaptations that would be a big help. However, I do not know which app would work.

      @completepete 4 месяца назад

      Thanks for watching RCWing! To my knowledge, there is not a trusted, publicly available application for Chevy that serves the same purpose as JScan for CDJR or ForScan for Ford. To help troubleshoot this further, could you provide some additional details including: (1) Does your vehicle have halogen or HID bulbs from the factory, (2) How long are the low beams running before they turn off/turn back on sporadically, (3) when the low beams turn back on (one, or both), is there a certain period of time until they will turn back on, and (4) What method is LasFit asking you to use to install their adapters? I would imagine that CANBUS/AntiFlicker adapters are needed in your situation, but I'd like to work through some of the questions I posed above to help identify any other solutions.

      @@completepeteyes, my truck came with halogen light bulbs. It's usually with the first 60 seconds of driving they will either both turn off and both come on, one turn off and come back on, or one turn off and not come back on. If both or one dosen't come back on I just flip the light switch from auto to on and it usually fixes the issue.

    • @completepete
      @completepete 3 месяца назад

      Did your purchase include LasFit’s dust covers with the integrated fan, or are they suggesting you cut into the stock rubber dust cover? I’d be curious to see, through a temporary install, if the canbus adapters solve the issue - you could probably design a more efficient/clean way to add them into the loop than what the company is suggesting if that seems to solve your problem, or, perhaps another manufacturer makes bulbs with integrated canbus. If I were troubleshooting, I’d remove the dust cover and hook up one of the canbus adapters (fastened with zip ties or tape temporarily) and assess the result. Does your truck have daytime running lights? Often, DRLs run at a lower intensity which can produce odd interactions with aftermarket LED bulbs. Does the problem occur if you turn the lighting dial to “on” before the bulbs turn off the first time? I’m wondering if the “auto” feature is somehow playing a role.

      Thanks for watching! If you want to send me a few pictures of your rack via email to [completepete6@gmail.com], I’d be happy to provide some suggestions for adapting to your use case! Good luck!

    Think you mean accept the low current needs of led's as the voltage is allway's 12 volts.

    If I can't legally have good window tint you shouldn't have your dumbass headlights that causes accidents.

    Nice idea. But instead of pressing on plugs you could glue the side you don't use, then put a female threaded clean out coupler and close it up with a male threaded coupler plug.

    How did you mount the non folding j hooks? Are they made to be bolted? Everything i see is made to clamp. Do you have a link to these?

    Great idea. What I do is lift my boat at one end then get underneath and balance it on my head like an African woman. Then I turn towards the car getting one side of the boat on. At this point I usually swear about something like a strap in my way or something from the boat hitting me in the face. Then i work my way to the back of the boat and put it on the car. Then I stop for a few seconds and curse kayaking. Then strap it up and go.

    One thing to note about using scrapers to finish your stock vs. sandpaper. I heard Mitch Yates speak and he says a scraped stock will take stain better than a sanded stock. I'll be looking into the versa vise, looks like a nice setup.
