    I’m loving the float idea

I magnet fish out of my kayak and found that it’s easy to get tangled up in the rope plus it’s easy to knock things overboard! That’s where the float comes in handy for sure. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for your video. I used to scuba dive and find all kinds of stuff in the local lakes. Now that I'm 70 I'm not quite as enthusiastic about donning all that gear. Magnet fishing should help satisfy the urge for discovery.

I’ve always been interested in scuba diving, but have never taken the plunge! I’m glad you enjoyed the video and may take up magnet fishing!

@@completepete I completed the reel and am excited to try it out. I bought a stainless steel bolt at Ace without realizing it wouldn't be very magnetic. I might see about how it would be to magnetize the bolt, or maybe I'll buy a magnet and attach it inside the reel. The rope coiled up nicely on the reel and is no longer a mess. By the way, I used to scuba dive sometimes from a kayak (I think it was an Ocean Kayak Scupper Pro TW (Tank Well) that I bought from Bass Pro). Your video reminded me of that.

What a DIY masterpiece!!! I have been searching for a DIY magnet fishing rope storage or winder, and this is the best DIY magnet fishing rope storage I have ever seen! 😃 I will do this for my dock/bridge/offshore bucket transport and it will be perfect for my first magnet fishing trip on my kayak. Thank you!

Why do you prefer the dragging magnet rig over the jigging rig? I planned on jigging when I try my luck at kayak mag fishing.

No preference between the two.. Just trying to use the “right tool for the job”. Dragging the magnet allows us to cover more ground as the magnet is always in contact with the bottom. Jigging the magnet is a good technique for fishing from a bridge where you toss the magnet in and pull it up.
Both of my magnets have a threaded hole in the edge and the side. One is set up for jigging so I can drop the magnet straight down to fish. The other has the eye screwed into the side and is typically thrown out from a kayak and dragged back in (less likely to wedge in rocks).
We have found that a magnet thrown from our kayaks tends to act as an anchor. Pulling the rope pulls you over to the magnet. One technique is not to paddle, but throw the magnet and pull yourself along your intended course.
Throwing out the magnet, tying it to a grab handle and paddling along lets you cover a lot of ground also.
I’d match the fishing method to the conditions for sure.. Good luck!

@@completepete Thanks Pete, I went yakmagfishing yesterday and see what you mean about the anchor. *That tossing the mag and pulling it like an anchor method is a brilliant idea.* The mag acting as an anchor is something I quickly learned the hard way. I didnt even think about bringing my bruce anchor. I may even need my mushroom. Thanks for the reply. Dragging method 90% of the time. Jig for if I know somethings there but the drag wont stick. Right tool for the job as you said. _Happy hunting_
