The dent in the stock is the result of using parallel jaws, you really must get a pattern makers angle jaw vice. You may be a bit tight on your trigger plate, the wood will move over time which can cause cracking of the stock, not sure how dry these stock blanks are. The screw hole n top of the butt plate is absolutely perfect, it means that when you draw the screw up it will force the butt plate up against the stock leaving no gap. Chris B.

Hey Pete! About to dive into my first Flintlock build, decided to go with Kibler as well. Curious if you have tried the stain yet? If so, did you end up going with the tannic acid to make it darker? Thanks!
Pete as a flintlock builder some advice for you. You don't want a tight fit inlet for trigger plate. The stock expands and contracts and will crack over time. Also behind the tang on top inlet it out just a hair and put bees wax in it. It will chip out there as well

Finally pulled the trigger on a Kibler. Arrived yesterday. I have tomorrow off so I'll be starting to work on it then. Just have to decide if I want to try my hand at any basic carving. Hope you're doing well.

I'm waiting on my Colonial to come in right now think I have about all the tools I need but I'm definitely going to check out those rubber blocks from midway.... Awesome to see yours coming along can't wait to start on mine.

@@completepete I definitely will keep in touch... I'm going to try my hand at doing some relief carving on it so I'm nervous and excited about that and with my work schedule I may be at it for a few months lol
Carving sounds great.. I think Jim has a carving kit but it may be a bit pricey. A piece of maple board from the lumber yard might be an easy solution for a practice surface. Take your time and enjoy the process!

Just finished up my Kibler went pretty good the only issue I ran into was with the ramrod and ramrod entry pipe. I really had to file the ramrod and tip a lot more than I thought I would need to.
Could you use some steam to get that dent out or maybe minimize it?, i have used that trick on small dents and marks in wood working projects, just an idea.

Thanks Andy.. I did try steam using a damp rag and an iron without any success. I might give it another try..
Pete! What going on? Just finished my.54 colonial rifle I got a week and a half ago. Have to sand the stock and polish the brass.

Ok well keep me posted! I just received and put together the Woodsmen Rifle, now I got busy at work 😮 thinking about a little carving but we’ll see.
