Having now lived in Paraguay for 20 years I felt it really was about time I shared some of the sights and sounds of the land with the world.
I am based in the small country town of Piribebuy a couple of hours drive away from Asuncion. Here I first taught English on a private teaching project and since the completion of that have been living here enjoying the county life.
With the vast store of knowledge I have built up there are always ample things I can share with anyone who is willing to take the time to discover something about this fascinating country.
For the past three years being running a blog simonsparaguay.com do please visit and take time to look through the many articles on their covering all aspects of Paraguay and Paraguayan life.

Remains of the old dam in Piribebuy

The river Piribebuy flows through the town of Piribebuy in Paraguay and many years ago a dam was built across it to protect the town from flooding.
This dam was built in 1942 and stood until the 1980s when it was washed away during the storm.
These days there is another dam on the river in the centre of town and this when it's gates are closed forms the town swimming pool.
The old dam is located up river of the new one on the very edge of town and apart from the occasional local visitor on a summer weekend looking for a peaceful place to bathe is largely forgotten. A very quiet little spot.

My home outside the town of Piribebuy very much shows that off. Here I live surrounded by countryside with very few other people to be seen.
