Located just outside Caacupe in Paraguay Cerro Cristo Rey (Christ the King Hill) is a very prominent feature in the landscape.
It rises to a height of 300 metres and dominates the skyline on the approach to Caacupe.
The climb to the top of the hill is a steep one over rocks and along narrow ledges. The path as it is follows in the footsteps of others rather being actually marked out.
Care must be taken when climbing the hill as there are no barriers and plenty of steep drops to the side of the path.
This though does make the climb more of an adventure and a discovery. The reward for this is given once the ruined chapel on the summit is finally reached.
From there the high vantage point offers views over the surrounding countryside in every direction. In places that view is an unbroken sea of green.
It takes about 20 minutes to get to the top of the hill and anyone who is in this part of Paraguay and is looking for something a little different, an adventure that is not too challenging, should consider the assent of Cerro Cristo Rey if only for the views it offers.

Nice view, have you climbed the tallest near Villarica?
No, only been over to Villarica a few times and not had a chance to climb any hills around it
