Compaq ProLinea Motherboard and BIOS Restoration
From 1992 through 1996, Compaq released a series of ProLinea 386, 486 and Pentium motherboards that had a BIOS unlike most others at the time.
#prolinea #compaq
The BIOS was based on an AMI chip but was not accessible via the normal process of pressing the DELETE or F2 or any other key during the boost sequence.
Instead, the BIOS was accessible as a NON-DOS partition on the hard drive and was accessible by pressing the F10 key during the boot when a square cursor appeared in the upper right-hand corner. Without this partition, there is NO WAY to access the motherboard BIOS or settings.
We'll first take a good look at a ProLinea motherboard that was rescued from the remains of a 486 4/66 sys...

Damn, that's true Dell ingenuity! 😊🎉 (But we can excuse that for the Celeron D)
Hehe what oil does a opel astra kadett 160i (1995) use cuz i dont have the owners manual anymore
MAGNATEC 5W CASTROL C35W40-1. 😮
My first computer back in 2007 had this motherboard. It also had a 1.20 Ghz AMD Athlon processor, a 256 MB DDR RAM stick, and a 32 MB ATI offboard video card in the AGP 4x slot. It was a very modest and simple PC, but it was enough to play some games like CS 1.6 and GTA Vice City
I never had one of these until recently (like right now) 🤣
doesnt look like E Waste
it doesn't, but 100% is. that bin behind it is the source of these mobos
That looks alot good for an OEM
it does! it has all you need and a lot smaller!
Ah, an OEM, i bought an Asus P5KPL-AM SE which was OEM from an Argentinian company i bought the PC from years ago, and instead of showing the Asus splash screen on boot, it shows the OEM logo from the company, i sold it years ago to someone in Mexico
yes! same here. HP splash, you can update these but they will still be OEM
Which cpu is in here?
i haven't had the courage to remove the heatsink yet (I have had clips break on older boards), but it looks to probably be an Athlon II
Where do you get these?
they are unicorns, no longer exist but in memory
This card company was a game changer. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3dfx 3dfx rapidly declined in the late 1990s and most of the company's assets were acquired by Nvidia Corporation on December 15, 2000
heck yes! I only ever actually bought a matched pair of Voodoo 2 cards and an STB Velocity 100
Nice find!
Thanks! very lucky!
It'd be awesome if the board still worked. If not, it'd make great wall art.
That would be cool! Not sure I could get away with that though.
Turbo key?, VGA/DVI ports?, man, i'm more confused, i thought my old P5KPL-AM SE was weird enough, i didn't even know those motherboards had an iGPU
Some am3 CPUs had igpus, some motherboards from that era actually had Nvidia or AMD dgpus onboard that share the system ram
yeah, all in one!
Found a similar motherboard a few weeks ago myself that supports AM3+ The Asus M5a78L-M/USB3 Had a boring Amd athlon II x2 240 though which is slower then the core 2 duo e8400 & certainly slower then the mATX pc i did build instead with an Intel I7 3770 non k 2x8 gb ram & currently a gtx 1050 running windows 7 & 10.
nice! I love the colors on this one!
That's very nice
Thank you! Cheers! I was very lucky indeed 😎
Nice!
Thanks! It was a lucky find for sure!
Those cpus r trash 🗑 need at least the 4 core..no dx 12 with them ether
nowadays, yes trash
The issue with CRT TV is the size. Sadly now everything is in widescreen and it makes everything squished. That was the problem back then too.
yeah, lots of black bars
@@UncleMikeRetro yea for sure it a squished image.
😒
As for the Athlon x2 it is an good cpu but I have an phenom x2 and believe me I tried all the games possible such cod bo1 bo2 ps2013 and with 1 gb of ram ddr2 I ran them good of course with the gpu as well the bad thing is that I don't have that sys running anymore I managed to restore it but one day I was using it and It just powerd off and never turned on
I got good use out of one of these CPUs for the original Crysis. I got rid of it soon after 😒
I can see an motherboard behind this system do you know who made it
it was Dell branded. I did not get to see the manufacturer
I m looking to build an win xp system on an old win 95 case is that a good idea
it is a super idea. the case is the hardest part nowadays
@@UncleMikeRetro i found it it was the only one but it covered with rust but it's not empty on the inside it has a system but I don't know what I will go to get it
Any luck with win 95 cases
well, you can cram anything into a case. if you mean were any Win95 era?... well, not hardly any
Clippy's name is now Clippit if you look closely.
awww! I hope I didn't offend him!
Hi Mike, are these expensive? Sometimes I see comments from gold scrapers lusting about these old small capacity CF drives and how great these are. 😅
you know, I bet I could have paid like 25 cents a piece if I wanted any.
God
he worked it all out for us
It should be illegal to brain wash and manipulate the public to accept SmartTVs against their will. We're in a free country you SHOULD be able to buy a CRT TV brand new in 2024 beyond. What the government is doing is highly unconstitutional. I have a CRT TV on my gaming desk used from ebay with a small minor burn out but barely noticeable on max brightness. Let me tell you if I had the power to do a class action lawsuit on the Government I would MAKE Markets be FORCED to provide CRT TVs as an option. Why do you need to click I Agree to watch a damn TV? For that matter I would rather watch it on a computer and pirate older movies this isn't fair man that these are being called retro now because the government is brain washing modern society.
interesting points! all I can say is because they are discontinued and (this one at least) 32 years old they are retro
@@UncleMikeRetro Retro is a made up word to me nothing is retro it's an invention of the mind and collective thoughts.
well, I think it is a state of mind. Close enough?
So,I'm in germany laws here are different,so in your country you can just go ahead and take what you want from a scrapyard?
oh no! gotta pay. not everything comes home in the end. that would be INSANE!
Oh okay,is it calculated by the weight or by what you found?
the power consumption of those furnaces makes really really hard to use them with any profit.... Now any 80 dollars minipc just double the power of those desktops. Sadly its time to say them goodbye.
fun while it lasted though
There is a Dell of that kind, but in black and it has a screen on the case*
the hell you say?
@@UncleMikeRetro The Dell XPS 420, search it on Google or ask ChatGPT if it has a screen on the top, it's a great desktop (until i sold it...)
Where can I get it?
in computer heaven, really. not a survivor
Wish i could get it. They look not bad!
the CPU or the whole system? just curious. I let the case go
Did I just see a asus p8z77 ?
inside the Dell? that mobo was branded DELL. not sure elsewise
Hmm.. I don't appear to have my 4000+ anymore. I have a 3800+, 4200+, 5200+, and 5600+. And they all work :O
nicely done keeping them safe!
@@UncleMikeRetro I have these little clamshell containers I keep all my CPUs in. They are quite handy to have for protecting the pins.
I'd do that if I didn't have about 200+ CPUs right now. the cost would kill me 🤣
@@UncleMikeRetro Yeah the cost can certainly add up. The clamshells I have are about $1.30-ish each. But these are the high quality clamshells and will fit most CPU types. You can get a master case of 800 for just under $900 :D ...which reminds me, I need to get more. I've been getting a lot of drop-offs at my shop for e-cycling.
gotcha. i just use a little foam padding and painters tape 😁
ah, some memories
tiny memories? 🤓
yes
the littlest!
Not e-waste. its perfectly usable in the modern day. just needs some components
maybe... that case was trash
These were really nice CPUs for their time in my opinion, the Dell it was in… not so much.
ha! I had a few of those CPUs myself too. Loved them in the day!
Yup thats ewaste.
yeah... Dell!
how about lenovoG50-30
not familiar. is it a close match?
Quantum fireball Plus AS? Or Plus LM? Guessing by the seeking and the bearing whine.
Quantum!
2005 amd cpu nice
I think that counts as retro!
mostly don't have afford buy led tv chose old crt in province like here in the Philippines very important to use that specialy news & weather jist hook up with any digital receiver
yes, there is still a purpose to these old things!
I have an i7 3770. Overclocked to 4.1 Ghz on an Asus P77 Mobo. Paired with SSD and 24Gbs ram it's more than enough for a simple home pc. That thing can still run AAA games in 2024. In Venezuela they cost about $50.
I am still amazed at how well the older CPUs handle things today
Ugh it's like CANDYLAND
ha! it sort of is like that! Willy Wonka!
❤God bless you for this channel.
You are so kind 🥰 Retro computers and genuinely my thing 😎
