      @@UncleMikeRetro same here i have a few pcs from late 2000s to early 2010s like some hps and dell dimensions and dual xeon dell precisions and 2 dell power edge dell servers also i have a few gaming pcs from that era like a xps 420 and xps m170 laptop i also have various newer office pcs and laptops ive picked up over the years and i of course built a custom gaming pc and i have 1660 i5 whice is still a good gaming laptop and the most uniqe is a first gen gpd win max with a 11th gen i5 that i modded to use 32gb of ddrr4 with a 2tb ssd which is like a very small laptop with a built-in xbox controller its like less than a 4th of the size of my gaming laptop and was like the steam deck before the steam deck was a thing and i ironically mostly use my modern pcs to run nostalgic dos games in either emulation with vms or from steam or gog im looking to replace that win max for a gpd win 4 which is s little ryzen 6800u handheld that has a slide up full qwerty keyboard and a built-in xbox style controller aswell all about the size of a psp infact the housing looks almost exactly like a psp but the vast majority of my collection is from early to late 90s which is the era i grew up with but i also have a collection of commodores, tandys, and amigas i have complete c64 with original box and manual including a matching color monitor floppy and tape drive with two joysticks and a collection of boxed tape and cartridge game's my oldest pc i think is a luggable Osborne one from 1981 all this isn't even including my collection of vintage calculators and retro consoles also i have a collection of old tube radios from the 40s-60s im a lover of all things retro lol if i get the chance i really want a few non reproduction arcade/pinball machines to

      Wow, too much to comment on it all except to say you are very blessed and actually have more toys that you can ever play with. You know? If you get a real pinball machine, I personally loved Cyclone by Williams. Still my fav!

      Just about the only reason that I do these!

    Im glad i found this pc because it helped me find this channel trying to find more info on the case etc.
    I like the idea 👍, Just picked up one of these yesterday because I immediately thought it looked nice for its age and more than likely I could turn it into a Linux sleeper PC with a bit of modification. I agree with not putting another p4 in it as some have commented and maybe putting the fastest for as cheap components in it that you can (example: i have a working mobo/cpu/ram from a 2013-2014 pc i found for free ,i figure the more Frankenstein the more fun sometimes but thats just me. Getting things to work for as cheap as possible ,a little sloppy mechanics touch doesn't hurt with a solid side panel 🙂,
    I've done two other pentium II era tan sleeper PCs but this almost hides in plain sight because of how minimalist and sleek it still looks.
    Good luck on your search for components and ideas however you decide i bet it will turn out good👍.

      Hello pal!
      Super nice comments! Thanks for peeking around and finding us. This is definitely the most "modern" restoration that I have done to date, and I think it looks stellar. I am still torn about exactly what to put inside it. On one hand, I want it as original as possible, and on the other hand, I love the sleeper PC idea. Sigh. Time will tell!

      It's a shame that gateway and other manufacturers typically put in those proprietary quirks like the built in I/0 shield etc., Where it involves having to whip out the dremel and safety squints* 😬, ,Too bad you don't have a 2nd doner shell.

      Indeed too bad. This one, again, came out pretty well all things considered. The sturdy side panel is a plus, as you mentioned.

    Do you have a matching (or similar) mobo?

    • @UncleMikeRetro

      I have a few working Socket 478 boards, yes. Exact same, no, unfortunately.

    First! 😊
    It's still looks good before, now it's looks better 😊
    And I thought the inside is filled with pc parts, actually it's just empty, I think you will put the parts soon, I guess 😅
    And it's actually good to cover the windows xp serial number, if not, I think they will steal your pc original windows xp serial number 😅

      First indeed! Also, I am going to do a community poll on what should go inside!

    This is awesome! I have one of these models...trying for the life of me to figure out where I can get a BIOS update. Gateway's site is long gone and webarchive no luck :(

      wish I could help! The mobo in this one was hosed (you can see that in my shorts video on this rescue). I don't keep HDDs very often for the sake of honesty and if you need the BIOS, Intel may have it hidden online somewhere?

  • @Nitrogen64YT

    I would say put an early lga775 mobo and pair it with either a core 2 duo or pentium d

    I have the same exact computer but it doesn't turn on the green light in the motherboard turns on but when i click on the power button is not starting do you know how can i turn my pc on without the power button?

    • @UncleMikeRetro
      @UncleMikeRetro  11 месяцев назад +1

      you can short the two pins on the motherboard with a metal object to start it without the power button. Be careful!

    • @OskPnk
      @OskPnk 11 месяцев назад +1

      @UncleMikeRetro thank you i have tried to do that but is not turning on maybe i'm doing it with the wrong pins it should be the pins where the white and blue wires are, right? Have you ever tried to do this with your computer?

    • @UncleMikeRetro
      @UncleMikeRetro  11 месяцев назад +1

      yes, I get lazy and just short the pins with a flat screwdriver at times when bench testing. I have to say that if it refuses to boot, the motherboard may be dead

    You could make it into a sleeper or at least an lga 775 system. Pentium 4s are everywhere and they're not really useful for anything anymore
